Same lines same d-pairs for Rangers. No Marc Staal on ice. Matt Gilroy is the seventh d-man on ice.— Andrew Gross (@AGrossRecord) May 18, 2013
...and Staal not practicing with the team is exactly why I didn't get excited about him skating yesterday. I've all but stopped expecting him back in the playoffs.
...no news on Clowe isn't very encouraging either. Haven't even heard that he's in Boston with the team working out. Not good.
Arthur Staple at Newsday notes that John Moore lost six teeth (two upper, four lower) in Game 1 after taking a puck to the face.
...who says hockey players aren't the toughest of all the professional athletes?
Meanwhile, in his post practice press conference John Tortorella, after stating that the power play stinks and that Carl Hagelin might be inserted on one of the units, hinted that the team needs to make adjustments on and off the ice (via Bergen Record)...
“I’m not a big adjustment guy. You look at some small things after Game 1. To me, it’s not so much on the ice. There are some other adjustments we have to make. I’m not going to tell you.”
...what in the world could that mean? Guys not watching enough tape or studying up on scouting reports? Or maybe that means guys are going out the night before games? Very interesting that Torts would drop that during a press conference when he's usually so secretive with information.
And finally, Claude Julien says Wade Redden is a "game-time decision'' for Game 2 and he is uncertain about Dennis Seidenberg's status.
...as I said yesterday, I love Redden back in the line-up over any of the three impressive rookies we saw in Game 1.
Tort's Comment: I'm not a big adjustment guy???
English Translation:" I'll change lines around or bench a player in a reactionary momen'ts notice but I won't adjust a failing system because.. DAMN IT! I'm going to show the world that I'm RIGHT!!! Today the Garden! Tomorrow the WORLD!!!!!"
Translation: Hags has a disturbing tendency to MOVE and SKATE during the powerplay thereby destroying Sullivan's trademark "stand still like a pylon and telegraph shots" ice sculpture strategy, which Torts loves so very much.
But what the heck, they're going to put the equipment manager on the powerplay next so why not try Hagelin, even though, Torts is not an "adjustment type of guy"
However,.Hagelin had better learn to stand still and imitate a pylon or he'll be taken off the powerplay.
I wouldn't be surprised if Torts meant guys are going out the night before games. Surprising that they can't focus 100% on hockey during the play offs...
Torts could put anyone on the PP and he has during reg season but if the concept and quickness and decision making doesn't change it won't matter. The Ranger PP has been horrible. The last decent PP was when the Trio of Jagr, Straka, Nylander were around
They either need to bring in a PP specialist coach or dump Sully. To many years have gone by with a, not really sure how verbally describe our PP anymore, for him to still have a job.
I read that as it's not so much on the ice, it's in their heads and in their hearts. I think he's thinking some guys aren't giving everything they got.
This team needs to realize Hank can't save them all year, they have to take the game on their backs and help him out.
Torts is classless for calling out Hagelin in that way. No reason to mistreat a good, hard-working young player like they publicly.
Deep down, you all know Avery was right: the players don't like playing for him any longer (if they ever did). Clown, indeed.
@SpazzBrown couldn't do any worse
@Fish9876 Maybe it's not so much Hagelin stinks on the PP, but more the coach that stinks on the PP. How can I guys be too fast for the PP?
@Fish9876 Not sure what you read or maybe I read it wrong but he said he was inserting Hags into the PP. Nothing there putting him down that I can interpret.
I read that he said Hagelin "stinks" on power play....since Torts is not known for his humor, I interpreted that as a gratuitous knock on Hags.
@Fish9876 while I love Avery and didn't agree with Torts handling of him but I have always liked Torts coaching style and wouldn't want it any other way
"Because he stinks on the power play," Tortorella said during an entertaining press conference following practice Saturday at TD Garden. "He stinks. I don't know why. I wish I could put him on the power play, but every time I put him on, he stinks."
Any reason why that is?
"I think he's too quick," Tortorella said of Hagelin, who has five points in eight games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. "I think he's a jitterbug and he screws it up. But again, I may use him, I don't know. I'd love to."
@Fish9876 actually I just read this http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=17696&navid=nhl:topheads.
never mind.. So apparently Hags stinks on the PP.
