The NHL announced today that Henrik Lundqvist along with Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jacket and Antti Niemi of the San Jose Sharks have been named finalists for the 2013 Vezina Trophy.
Lundqvist, who won the award last season, was tied for the League lead this season with 24 wins, and finished in the top seven in the League with a 2.05 GAA and .926 save percentage.
Bobrovsky went 21-11-6, and was second in the League with a .932 save percentage and fifth with a 2.00 goals-against average.
Niemi, tied Lundqvist for the League lead with 24 wins, was tied for the second-most shutouts in the League with four, was seventh with a .924 save percentage and also had a 2.16 GAA.
...congrats to Lundqvist for this well deserved nomination. After starting the season a little shaky Lundqvist ended the year on an absolute tear as he had a 1.76 gaa and .934 sv% in the month of April. As has been the case every year since debuting with the Blueshirts, the Rangers don't sniff the playoffs without him. Unless you watch this guy on a gamely basis, which we all do, you can't appreciate what an amazing talent and competitor he is.
...as far as handicapping this race, I think it'll come down to Lundqvist and Bobrovsky. "The Bob" had an absolutely amazing season getting the Blue Jackets on the cusp of making the playoffs, but at the end of the day he fell short while Lundqvist's late season heroics propelled the Rangers into the postseason. Got to go with Hank.

@TheNYRBlog big fan...I normally agree w almost everything you say, but in this case.i have 2 disagree what Bobrovsky did this year was nothing short of spectactular, he lifted team on his back.. and they have nobody!!
I just wanted hank to get 30 wins again. I know its a half season bit would have been glad to officially keep streak
Its both good arguments. Probably would vote bobrovsky as well, stellar season, but would be happy to see and can also see the side of hank winning it.
I'm not saying Hank isn't a great goalie but what I am saying is when watching the games this year I never felt like he was having a Vezina Trophy type of season but then again my vote doesn't count.
It should go to Hank but the typical Anti-New York bias will kick in & Bobo will win..Was just thinking this morning about how alot of people don't realize how good Lundquist is. Watching how bad Price & Fleury have been should give Ranger fans a geater appreiation for Hank. Alot of goalies are up & down. Hank's greatness has been consistent year in year out. He is special. Fleury is going to cost the Pens a shot at the Cup. His play is so inept they have to go to Vokun & unless he rescues them Pens are going down if not in the Isles series then to some other team. Caps came into this series on a roll & playing w-confidence. Their game has found a new level above their talent. I truly believe if they get past us they are going to the Finals. Hank gives us the edge. If he can keeps stoning them the frustration is going to set in, then we take over the series & win. Then maybe its us on the roll & believing we can't lose. He is a world class, future Hall of Famer, & maybe one of the best ever. Certainly better then Marty who always had a top D in front of him. Lundquist has done more w-less then Marty. He is special...enjoy him cause we won't see the likes of him again, he is that good.
I think Bob wins it. They had enough points to make the playoffs but lost on a tie breaker. He had way worst D in front of him then the rangers and his numbers are insane. Hank may have had some of the best saves Ive seen in a while this year but I think bob still wins it. Even though we all want Hank to get it
Thanks for the info.Is their anyway you could provide stats from the last shortened season .....perhaps to see how that voting went relative to this year's voting? Also any stats on the number of times a goalie has been nominated and the number of times the nominations were consecutive....thanks.
The past 2 Cup winners had Vezina finalists in net, let's hope the trend continues...but not for San Jose!
As grreat as Hank played I think Bobrovsky gets the trophy. Having the Center Ice package this year I saw quite a few Blue Jacket games and he was pretty awesome. As like Hank the Jackets have no shot of even sniffing the playoffs without his play. I would love for Hank to go back to back but I don't think it will happen.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. The Rangers were supposed to be in the playoffs and just snuck in. The Bluejackets on the other hand were not supposed to do anything then when Bobrovsky got hot they took off and traded Mason to the Flyers. I'm a die hard Rangers fan but I don't think Hank out performed Bob. The Jackets won their last game but just didn't get the help they needed to get in. This very easily could have been the Rangers this year. IMO...
@Muggs62 Isn't it great that Bobo is playing so well & the Flyers let him go...lol. Gave the head case Bryzgalov all that money...lol. I can't get enough of watching the misery the Flyers are in. They are so inept when it comes to goalies. They had this guy let him go overpaid Bryzgalov now they have to buy him out. Its great!!!!
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Just said the same thing. Its great they had their never ending goalie problem solved & threw it away...lol. Though I did hear some Flyer beat writer on NHL radio a few weeks ago say that Bobo was a mess mentally when he was there cause of the fans treated him. He had to get out o there to be good. That makes it even better, they ran the one thing that has kept them from winning the Cup out of town...lmao!!!!
