Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Chris Kreider was given a maintenance day from the team's optional practice today.
...reward for the game winner? lol
Meanwhile, Pat Leonard at the Daily News says that Ryane Clowe, Brad Richards, Darroll Powe and Marc Staal all skated with the taxi squad players before the optional. Anton Stralman did not practice today.
Gross adds that Michael Haley, Kris Newbury and Roman Hamrlik all participated in the optional.
...can you say same line-up in Game 5? If it ain't broke....
...having said that, I'm concerned about Hamrlik as he was made to look like a parking cone a few time during the game last night. Really need Stralman back soon.
Finally, John Tortorella admitted during his post practice press conference today that he liked what he saw from Ryan McDonagh on the power play last night and he screwed it up by not putting him there sooner.
...as I said last night, for McDonagh to be considered among the elite defensemen in the NHL he needs to add some more offense to his game and this might be the perfect opportunity to start doing it.
...only reason I haven't been pushing for McD on the power play sooner is that the guy is already playing 30 minutes a night, I'd hate to see him burned out with additional time on the man advantage. But at this point, Torts has to try anything to build off some positive power play vibes from last night's game.
I expect todays game to be a fight fest. The Bruins have to re-set the tone after blowing it on Thursday. The Rangers can't back down so I can see the first 5-10 minutes to be a real physcal battle.I hope the Rangers can pull it out but I'm not real confident, if it wasn't for Rask giving the game away we would be tlaking about what changes the team needs instead of game 5
Saw the replay of the Kreider goal numerous times, to me, it looks like more than a tip in. His stick was lifted, but it looks like a shot attempt. Beautiful play..........
Putting McD on the PP, Putting Krieder with offensive players. Fans have be screaming for this for months, now he hockey god behind the bench wakes up! He's a joke.
as I said last night, for McDonagh to be considered among the elite defensemen in the NHL he needs to add some more offense to his game and this might be the perfect opportunity to start doing it.
- Brad Park likes this too
I hope Im not deluding myself but I feel something building w-this team. I feel like we are at least in for a Game-6 !!!! Am I wrong?
He's sitting Richards again ... Big mistake ... He can be clutch ... He's proven that ... And he can't do that from the press box ... He's wrong on this one Kev !!!!
Heard Leetch in an interview after one if the late season games and someone asked him about defenseman wearing down by playing too much. He said it was a non-issue. The more they play the better. McDonagh will be just fine.
Wonder if Kreider is still not well from that stick he took. He missed the rest of the game and has not practiced since. Glad he was in there last night but wonder if he is 100%
@TheNYRBlog McIlrath in an elimination game? Who else is on the roster?
@TheNYRBlog. I have perfect solution to rid of Hamertime. Dylan Mclrath
Mcdonagh will be playing 35 minutes a night now, if he is on the PP, but hey if he can survive than do it because he is infinitely better than Del Zotto.
Also, in the last two years the Rangers are 6-1 in elimination games, and I love that because it shows we have a ton of fight... But jeez 7 ELIMINATION GAMES in two years is a ton. That is the concerning aspect of this stat.
Yes you are. The B's have been the better team. If not for Rask letting in a freebie, this series is over already. I wish I was wrong, but Bruins will close it out.
@gravey94 Whatever, what does Leetch know about playing defense? I run a Rangers blog. lol
Nah, he face planted into the boards, really hard I might add, towards the end of the game. Tried o watch it on the re-run of the game, but did not see it again. He went for a check, and face first into the boards he went. Did not look pretty.
@greggray24 not many people are 100% right now
@cwgatti I'm pretty sure Rangers sent McIlrath home. Not even skating with taxi squad.
@Iron Mike In related news, CNN is reporting hell just froze over.
@11AV31 @TheNYRBlog I know. Dylan is a huge open ice hitter and he'll fight anyone, he loves it. I wish we kept him with the aces.
@11AV31 @TheNYRBlog Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Rangers sent McIlrath home with JT Miller so he's not even practicing with the Black Aces anymore.
@Josh6 Hopefully that number goes up to 10 after this series!
@Josh6 If Chara and his 6'8" frame can handle close to 40 minutes a night at the age of 36, I have full faith McDonagh will be fine. I think he's so competitive he wants to be out every single shift. He will thrive with the extra ice time
@TheNYRBlog Amazing how Stralman played so well, and then gets hurt. Big hole.
Based on Chara's play last night I don't think he can handle 40 minutes. However, McDonagh will be fine.
