Welcome sights all over practice today as Ryane Clowe skated with the team wearing a non-contact jersey for the first since suffering a likely concussion against the Carolina Hurricanes last week.
Here's the proof (via Rangers Instagram)...
Clowe says he's not ruling out a Game 2 return (via Bergen Record)...
“I guess it’s just kind of a progression here. I’m not going to rule out tomorrow. It’s tough to watch this time of year, the playoffs. It’s the time of year in hockey I look forward to the most, so it was hard to watch last night. But I’ll discuss it with the trainers and the proper people today and let them know how I felt out there. So we’ll see.”
...i'll believe it when I see it. Game 3 much more likely.
...Clowe's presence was greatly missed last night as the Rangers weren't able to match the Capitals physical play.
Meanwhile, Steve Zipay at Newsday says that Brian Boyle (right leg) practiced again and Derek Dorsett (broken clavicle) practiced in a contact jersey for the first time as a Ranger.
...I wouldn't be surprised to see both back in the line-up tomorrow afternoon, with Newbury and Kreider being the two likely out.
...it would be too bad for Kreider, who I thought was one of the Rangers better players in the third period in Game 1.
Marc Staal (eye) also practiced in full today.
it would be nice to see clowe dorsett and boyle back it would turn up the nasty level a couple of notches
Good news. It'd be great to get any of these guys back.
I really don't know what to think about Staal. I know he's working hard, but does he know how many fingers I'm holding up?
Clowe is much needed. Boyle will be help out with facoffs and PK. I hope he ends up on the 4th line, but Torts seems to try and squeeze him on to the third.
I'm ready to see Dorsett start bangin caps.
That's not a non-contact jersey! What's going on? Dorsett's Non-contact was yellow/gold. Non-contacts are always a color that stands out from the other lines (one of the 4 lines is WHITE). Please tell me he was in a contact jersey and someone screwed up the report! I want Clowe back!!!!
Am I the only one who would rather see Asham and Pyatt sit instead of Kreider and Newbury? In their short amount of ice time I thought Kreider and Newbury brought some great energy. Asham, to me, is pointless once Dorsett returns, and Pyatt is just a lumbering oaf who does nothing but good boardwork(which Newbury/Kreider can make up for).
I wouldn't mind seeing 3rd/4th lines as:
Kreider, Brassard, Boyle
Dorsett, Powe, Newbury
Then when Clowe comes back I would totally rearrange to:
Nash, Stepan, Callahan
Clowe, Richards, Zuccarello
Kreider, Brassard, Hagelin
Dorsett, Powe, Boyle
i couldn't wait for Kreider to come up last year. His performance in the playoffs only reinforced my hopes that he'd become a big time player. thought he would burn it up this year. But this kid looks lost on the ice. JT Miller imo shows much more hockey sense. bottom line, the kid sits for either Clowe or Boyle.
@NYR44 Agreed. I'm actually most excited about Dorsett's return. He's going to be so amped to play! Maybe Boyle, Asham and Dorsett on the 4th line? Bodies would be flying!
@GiveGartneraCup I think the rest of the forwards were wearing blue today.
@GiveGartneraCup could be an older pic
@ChristopherHart ok but 4th line of Dorsett Boyle and Newbury or Asham
@ChristopherHart I have to disagree with you about Asham. When we were getting rolled in the 1st period, Asham created two decent chances. Most notably the only shot on goal. (when it was 12-1 in shots) The rebound went right to Newbury with an open net, he was just being checked and couldn't get the puck. We scored right after that. Asham will fight (and lose the fight probably) and is serviceable. I'll give you Pyatt though. Besides being a beast on the boards, he's useless. I'd sit Kreider and Pyatt. Kreider's speed is useless if he does nothing once he gets the puck. Dorsett, Boyle and Clowe make all those dudes useless. Anyway, remember this is Asham from only 2 years ago. http://youtu.be/w6z0GML9XLI you want that guy in your lineup
@ChristopherHart id like to sit asham and pyatt also, maybe and i mean maybe they had one good shift between last night i thought newbury was much more effective then both of them combined
@ChristopherHart I like Kreider's skating but it seems like he needs glue on his stick or something. You watch Hags get to a puck at high speed and it ends up on his stick. Kreider tends to get there first but misses the puck. Crazy with his size but as soon as he gets near another player the puck is lost.
@ChristopherHart I think Kreider looks like a scared puppy on the boards. I hate Pyatt too but he's better on the boards.
@Richie50 I'm starting to think he's not lost, he just wants to get in to the action so bad he's a bit jumpy. I think if you put him on a better line that brings more of a scoring threat he would regain confidence and play better.
