Fans always wonder if the players actually hear what they're shouting in the stands. Well according to Derrick Brassard, they do.
In this fan taken video of Brassard's goal last night, you can distinctly hear the crowd yelling shoot seconds before he releases the shot...
You have to assume Brassard was going to shoot and that was just a coincidence, right? Maybe not as Brassard said this about the fans' encouragement after the game (via Newsday)...
"The crowd was chanting 'shoot the puck.' I was going to [pass it] back to John, but I decided to shoot . . . You never know. You put the puck on net and good things happen."
...got to admit, I'm shocked to hear this. The Garden crowd is notorious for yelling "SHOOT!!!!" during the game, even if the Rangers have the puck behind the net, so I find it fascinating that Brassard actually was influenced by the chant.
...the MSG crowd has been credited for inspiring the Rangers to victory through their energy and passion, but this is the first time I can remember them having a direct impact on a player's actions. Amazing.
...and how about this Brassard guy? I think he's a keeper. Not sure where the Rangers would be without him. Actually, I do know, on the golf course.
Here's Brassard after the game...
Torts needs to show rocky iv today. Victory in foreign territory And you know...kicking the crap out of an arrogant Russian!!!
just want to call out how steady this guy's hand is for the video....amidst all the energy in the garden
When I am at the Reading Royals games and a play is developing I will yell "shoot" or "now" when I see an opening. The guys have scored about four out of eight times in these situations. LOL. Not that they are listening to me, but we as fans can sometimes see things the players can't, and of course the reverse is true, too. I wish the Royals were the Rangers affiliate and not the Capitals, but it is what it is.
You can definitely tell he is new from this as the fans screamed shoot to other guys who have been around for a while and they still passed lol. I actually loved Boyle's comment in the intermission when he said he didn't need the fans to tell them to shoot. Apparently, they do!
I love this kid. FINALLY the Rangers have young, talented, fearless players. The future is looking good!
More good news is I was reading coverage of the Caps today & they are crying & moaning about the officials. Its always good when a team lets those distractions invade the other team. I have been saying it six Game-6 the rangers have control of this series, they should have won Game-5 & finished it off yesterday. they go down there tonight get a couple of early goals & VCaps will lose their heads take a few more stupid penalties & then we score on PP & its over. Good teams or more precisly teams that win Cups fiinish teams when they are reeling. Lets hope the boys have it in them tnite.
Awesome. That's pretty cool.
He's still pretty new, so maybe he doesn't yet realize they say "shoot the puck" all the time.
I love the fan-shot video. Great to get that feeling of being at the Garden for just a moment.
Brassard and Hank are the only reason this team are still winning. Every other forward should take some damn notes.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG he's only 25! Just a month ago he was looking at a dead end career with CBJ and all of a sudden we have a star in the making ;)
@PenaltySh0t I think Girardi and McDonagh might have a little something to do with it too. The league's leading goal scorer and Hart Trophy finalist has 1 goal and 1 assist in the series.
Ya if McD could start getting on the score sheet more consistently, he will be nominated for a Noris sooner than later.
