From the Rangers short practice this morning before hopping on a short flight to Montreal, Pat Leonard at the Daily News reports these lines...
Asham, Powe, Gilroy were the extras.
...so, Torts' solution to the Rangers struggles is to make the third line worse by adding a player who's not capable of scoring, while making the fourth line worst by adding a player who's not capable of playing defense. Got it!
...seriously, what is Gaborik doing on the fourth line? How does that help the team?!?!?! I would rather Torts put him in the press box, because at least then the fourth line would have a chance at succeeding.
...and how is Pyatt still in the line-up? I'd love to get an explanation from Torts.
...i've been down on Asham all year, but he has be on the ice tomorrow. Why? To get revenge on Pacioretty for his hit from behind on McDonagh. While I have no faith it'll happen, I really think it could be the spark this team desperately needs.
...on a positive note, I'm a fan of putting Zuccarello with Richards and Kreider. I think that line has the potential to be dangerous.
Meanwhile, Steve Zipay at Newsday says Marty Biron was the first goaltender off the ice and will likely get the start in Montreal tomorrow.
...why not? Nothing else has been working.
I don't care if we win tonight (well, kinda do), all I want to see is Pacioretty get fucking dropped like a sack of potatoes.
For the love of god .... Move Gabby to the 3rd line, bench Boyle and Pyatt and have a 4th line of Newbury, Powe and Asham.
Even though I despise Gaboriks work ethic off the puck and lack of physical play, playing him on the 4th line will not help anything. He is over 30yrs old not 19. It will teach him nothing and hinder our scoring, as if it can't get any worse... Put him with Richards and for gods sake leave the lines alone for more than a shift!!!
I think he's trying to get fired....why would you put Gaborik on the 4th line seriously.the Guy is already down on his game but i mean obviously putting him on the 4th line is a great idea real confidence booster for Gaborik maybe don't put him on the opposite wing from the beginning of the season he only scored 40 goals for you last season on the wing he is used too but yes change his side and expect him to score 40 goals again
Gabby's not a 4th line player...don't care if he's slumping or not......4th line players are roll players and very important players but I'm sorry, no way
How about letting Gaborik go back to his right side where he has played his entire career instead of trying to reinvent the wheel... And put him with some guys that will get the puck... Look at his entire career, he has always played with a tandem that has been aggressive on the forecheck...
Clean house? LOL just....wow dude. No, it's simply time to move on behind the bench is all. That is the only part of the house in need of cleaning.
This team is a mess: time to trade Gabby, Richards, Hags & Boyle. Leave Kreider & Miller in the minors next year to develop & please release Pyatt, Powe & Gilroy because they suck! Time to clean house!
"...on a positive note, I'm a fan of putting Zuccarello with Richards and Kreider. I think that line has the potential to be dangerous." Question. To whom?
The old man has lost his marbles. But then again, having no grit, no toughness, no tough-guys on the 4th line all season I suppose Gabby on the line can't be any worse.
lol, start Lundqvist against Florida, and then Biron who consistently get lit up against the Habs (You're a genius Tortsy)
The team is holding on to the eighth seed. If Lundqvist didn't stand on his held all of last year, you lot would be more than comfortable with that.
The fact is, this team sucks because Sather signed overrated players to big contracts. Noticing a pattern that has transcended decades, people? Richards and Gaborik suck crap and need to go.
I can hear the Montreal crowd now.... na na na na hey hey...goodbye! On a better note, Rangers sign Connor Allen, def. prospect from U Mass/ Amherst.
@TheNYRBlog not even watching. Game in Montreal means a loss
Wow. Im so over this coach, and his insistence on making his team play a system that simply isn't working with this current lineup. WTF is putting Gaborik on the 4th line going to achieve? Scratch him already. I think its time for a coaching shake up on Broadway, this guy has lost it (and his team for that matter).
Torts is nuts, I've been saying it for weeks. If Gabby is to play on the 4th line Saturday, why play him at all. Crazy BS!!
Dump and chase has to go , the Rangers offense consists of rushes of three minutes containing the puck against the boards in the offensive end with their backs to the net.
No wonder they don't score.
Talk about a 10 year old CUP and being nominated for the Jack Adams. So Fucking what! This is now i's this year not last year's over achievers or the Lightining from 10 years ago. Thii guy cannot coach this group, a coach s supposed to put the team in position to win, i's not happening. Its a combinatin of the players not playing well and the coach's inability to be creative and to adjust and adapt to in game changes. You can't get rid of all the players so it's time for Tortorella to go.
Why not recall Thomas and take Newbury out.....that way our line-up will have zero toughness. What a joke.
Can't wait til we play that home and home vs Toronto. It will be a wake-up call to the organization. You throw that line-up out there vs the Maple Leafs.....we will be bounced out of the rink.
My 23 year old son is 9-0 as a Ranger fan seeing them live including multiple wins in Philly (ok...lately no big deal), Toronto, Buffalo, Game 7 against Washington and Ottawa last year and Game 1 against the Devils last years semifinal. He is in Montreal for the game tomorrow. My son WILL go 10-0 :)
Makes no sense. Gaborik can't forecheck either so what is the purpose of the fourth line? Pyatt needs to go, at least if asham is in there are two decent shots on that line and the 3rd line can worry about checking and energy.
These lines are just silly. Hopefully he doesn't really go with them. A least he finally has the first line right. We've been begging for that combo since we saw it when Richards was out. Now if we oils just see Kreider-Miller-Cally as the 2nd line..,
@TruBluEsp I like this idea. I think for the most part, Powe and Asham have more of an impact on gamed than Boyle and Pyatt
@tygalpin expect the refs to be against us as they are against any team that comes in to their barn. remember in the HBO series how peter laviolette freaked out about the refs in montreal saying it was the same old shit? i'd really like to see a strong team performance, win or lose. if the ref's screw us, ok. just a team effort would be great. i think that they can do it.
@Iron Mike mike, it's kinda starting to look like that. others have said he has lost the team awhile ago. speculation here, but, maybe it had something to do with a confrontation with richey in the room? richey dropped off fast, TOI be damned and the culture of the team, if there ever was one, collapsed. this is all speculation.
what else do we see here? line changes. roster changes. touting or damning one player or another.
a few talk about the system being wrong for this team.
a few talk about management being wrong for this team.
just a few. there isn't consensus by any means.
winningest coach in US hockey history i saw on the TV at the end of the philly game. NY is a "what have you done for me lately" fan-base, like it or not (i for one, don't like it as i see myself become it). tortorella doesn't get a pass there.
the system he's playing doesnt seem to work.
gabby on the 4th line will achieve nothing in terms of his minutes and what scouts can see. this "ON one year, OFF the next" is bullshit for the team and fans, especially at his cap hit. he will NEVER command this size of contract per year EVER again after this one is done, by the way. the question is, what can be had for him? seemingly, not much.
@McPhee21 Haley would be nice
@RobertChiarello love it.
@Andrew794 me too
@MichaelHaley99 lol. he got them from richards, who then lost them.
@IcyCup I was unaware of the confrontation with Richards...Im sure whatever happened there didn't help things. I don't have any real answers, all I know is that Torts' current system and method of running things with a iron fist is no longer working.
I understand the importance of playing solid defense-first hockey, and it worked with last year's experienced grinders but it's just not sticking anymore and you got to wonder if his system is handcuffing our goal scorers. We are not the same team we had last year. We are no longer the blue collar, grind it out, shot blocking team of last year.
This team has an identity crisis, and that falls on the coaching staff.
How can one look at our roster and chalk it up to our best players just being in a funk??
I think it's the coach and I think it's the system and I don't think this team is drinking the Kool-Aid anymore. Denial is a hell of a drug, and clearly Torts wont accept that this team is broken. All you have to do is watch and listen to Cally and Hank and Richards post-game. You can see it on their faces.
The constant line-juggling is old.
The dictator approach (Im gonna fuck you because I can) to coaching is old.
The post-game antics, and tantrums are old.
The belittling of the team, and Rangers icons (Sam Rosen) and the press is old.
The questionable moves of certain players within our system the last two years and letting his personal feelings dictate minutes and who goes up and who gets sent down is old.
The laughing stock that is our power play is old.
The fact that he can no longer motivate his team is old.
His tough love act is old.
His inability to get bodies and traffic in front of opposing goalies is old.
He's just fucking old.
Torts is too much of an ego maniac to really do what's right for the team, which is adjusting and adapting his system.
He's the problem. The more I think about it, the guy has got to go IMHO.
Even if we make the playoffs, I'm gonna stick to my guns because I think we'll be one and done even if we do slide in.
Jesus, sorry for the book but now I'm getting pissed off....
Nah Joe...Haley won't work with this club. He's too tough, finishes his checks, and provides a spark.
@Iron Mike but i was using occam's razor. i think that's likely what happened or some similar scenario. speculation, again.
@Iron Mike i said speculation. i was speculating. there is no truth to it. i was speculating.
