Dennis Bernstein at the Fourth Period reports that the Rangers have been sending two scouts to every Los Angeles Kings game lately.
...i know we touched on this the other day, but after looking at the Kings roster again, I think the guy the Rangers could be keying on is Rob Scuderi. The Rangers have been rumored to be looking for a defenseman and Scuderi has Stanley Cup pedigree. The 34-year old is also in the final year of his contract that pays him $3.4 million this season, so the Rangers wouldn't be saddled with a long term contract. Although if the Kings think they're a Cup contender, I'm not sure why they'd want to move the Syosset, New York native.
...the one guy I'd love for Sather to go after by possibly taking advantage of the Kings being aggressive at the trade deadline to defend the Cup is 23-year old defenseman Slava Voynov. Kid can put up points from the blueline which is something the Rangers are sorely lacking. Now he wouldn't come cheap but maybe Sather can get Dean Lombardi to bite on Gaborik. Especially now that the Kings have been shutout the last two games.
Speaking of recycled trade rumors, Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun says Glen Sather has been itching to make a move to bring in an impact player and Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle could be that guy.
...i thought Rick Nash was supposed to be the impact player who got the Rangers to the promiseland?
...seriously though, which GM isn't looking to bring in an impact player at the deadline?
And finally, Larry Brooks at the New York Post says the Rangers are preparing to make an offer to restricted free agent winger Mats Zuccarello.
Zuccarello is said to be looking for a two-year, one-way contract.
...i seriously doubt the Rangers are going to meet his demands. He is still too much of an unknown commodity to offer that kind of commitment.
...although, if Jesper Fast has issues getting to North America as Adam reported last night, the Rangers might have no choice but to cave into Zuccarello's demands.
Brooks also wonders if the Dallas Stars begin a meaningful overhaul would they dangle Loui Eriksson at the deadline, because if they do, the Rangers would be mighty interested.
...we all know the chemistry Richards and Eriksson had in Dallas, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Rangers had interest, but he has three years left on his contract at $4.25 million per year making it unlikely the Rangers could afford him
If the kings are looking for a little offensive punch I think gaborik would be a great opportunity for LA to test the water being there is only one year left on gaborik's contract. I think this would be a huge risk if they dangled Voynov who is a budding superstar who can carry the puck end to end and displays tremendous offensive skills. Being a Ranger fan, this would be a miracle.
So this team has trouble scoring goals and many of you want to trade a 40 goal scorer for Boyle, a Dman, who we prob wouldn't resign anyway? Yeah .. that makes sense.
Could never see Dallas giving up Loui, he's an amazing player and I'd love him on the team but I just don't see it.
On Boyle: only if the trade is Boyle for Gaborik. Their contracts are close in terms of length and money, and Boyle's offensive production will replace the little that Gaborik produced, along filling the defensive hole on the right side, and a pressence on the PP.
On the Kings: agreed as stated.
On Zuccarello: please NO. I know the guy tries hard, but he's just to little and one dimensional for what the Ranger's need. With Bickel now gone, we are down to one oft-injured player who can fight.
On Dallas: Erikson would be great if we dump Gaborik w/o replacing his contract. I doubt Dallas would ever let him go. I was actually hoping this could work in the opposite way. We could unload Richards back on Dallas. They have a ton of cap room next year minus Morrow, Roy, and Jagr. I'm thinking Richards would welcome the move after all the failure he's having in NY.
I really hope we do not overreact here and get off the plan. We r not far still 18 games left, we have games in hand and still play the teams ahead of us at least twice (NJ) (TOR) (CAR). Do we need a wake up call? Yes but a major shakeup ? No we do not. Stall should be back soon as well. In a short season just get in. I'll take my chances with Nash and henrik Any day of the week in the playoffs.
Gabrick shows a lot more sings of life the Richards. If anyone goes it should be him it sends a message to the coaching staff as well as the players. Get your shit together guys time is running out !
Unless Sather pulls off a heist, it seems like the Rangers just don't really have any good options. Not enough young talent to deal, too many bad contracts, not enough good rentals available / too many teams are buyers
Hagelin-Stepan-Nash Kreider-Miller-Callahan Pyatt-Richards-Gaborik Powe-Boyle-Asham I know all the rumors are on Gaborik but I really think Richards is the real underachiever here.
Don't want the Hobbit back here. Torts never played him enough. There is no given he will light it up here. Need a defenseman who can blast it from the point and a forward who can punish and add security to fellow players.
@TheNYRBlog Guy Boucher is available, maybe another asst. coach could help us
Any trade made isn't going to be for another top 6 guy. I expect and hope we get some much needed bangers for the bottom 6 and please please get a Dman that can clear out the crease in front of the king. Team is def lacking scoring but if we spend the first 10-15 min of every game defending our dzone then there is an obvious need on the back end with Staal out and no gaurentee he will be back this year and us on the outside of the playoffs right now there is a serious lack of ability on the bottom lines to put up consistent grinding shifts. Besides miller the board work on the bottom six is non existent.
@TheNYRBlog i like your blog this morning. Yes eriksson would be nice but the scouts are too busy in los angeles not lookin at voynov
@TheNYRBlog 4.25 for Eriksson is a steal. Dude is stellar and worth several mil more than that. But they'll never deal. Like LA with Slava.
@MikeBlue i would give Dallas Richards back for Jagr and Roy. I would be so happy.lol
Like Pyatt on the left wing with Richie and Gabby
@jslnyr1102 as I recall he was gutsy and creative around the net and also had some nice speed & scoring touch unfortunately the league caught on played physical against him and nearly completely neutralized his game
@mick96 need a third and fourth line that can grind opponents to a nub. Probs the biggest difference from last year.
@dawg_jim Yep, Voyon would be nice tho.
@ScottyHockey Agreed but would be hard to get him under cap unless they moved Gabby or bought out Richards.
@AnnoyingJoe I agree. We have a solid nucleus in place our back line is as good as it gets in our top4 and stralman is a solid 5. Mcilrathceill be the 6th d man next year and del Zotto is growing into an offensive force. Cally Stephan miller Kreisler Nash hags up top. Grabs and Richards are the problems. We can trade gabby at the draft and buy out Richards move up miller and Kreisler and fill out the bottom 6 with fasth Lindbergh etc.
Agreed. He's not a clone of Marty St. Louis. That was the thought when he was brought here. Feel bad that he never got a fair shot here.
@TheNYRBlog Eriksson > Gabby. Younger, more consistent, Swedish.
