Watch: Kreider's Shorthanded Breakaway Goal

Written by Neill Fowler on .

In yesterday's 3-0 win over the Manchester Monarchs, Chris Kreider opened the scoring for the Whale by receiving a center ice pass from Kris Newbury and Kreider tucked home a backhanded shot past the Monarch netminder.

Neill Fowler thoughts:

Kreider's second tour with the Whale has been much better with 5 goals in the 7 games since he was sent down on March 1st.

As I stated in my recap during yesterday's loss, Kreider's second chance in New York may be drawing near if the Rangers scoring struggles continue. Kreider is certainly making a case for a promotion if he keeps up his close to a goal a game production.

Kevin DeLury thoughts:

There's that speed we know and love.

Does Kreider still have plenty of things to work on? Sure. Has he also been invisible in three of the seven games with the Whale? Absolutely. But he needs to be recalled and recalled now. The Rangers need something, anything to get them going. And if he is brought back, he needs to play 20 minutes a night and allowed to make some mistakes the way JT Miller is allowed to. Rangers need to know what they've got with Kreider, so lets go Torts, get the kid back up here and let him showcase his talent.

And while you're at it, might want to think about recalling Mashinter also who also scored in the game to give him five points in the seven games since also being sent down. He also has two fights in those games.

With confidence restored it makes sense to give the kid another chance as long as they are willing to play him, and Mash too.  But who do you send down or scratch?  Let's not get desperate here

Kreider is where he should be . He needs to build his confidence back . After Torts crushed it . He will only get 6 minutes a game playing for Torts

Haven't we all agreed that the way that the team has handled Kreider this year has been poor?  And now you want to bring him back up again?  He hasn't grown into a legit NHL goal scorer in the past 2 weeks.  Unless there are injuries up here, I want him to stay in CT, playing 20 min a game for the rest of the season.

@jrromman agreed he needs playing time. Unless he is gonna get tons of minutes at nhl games he needs to stay where he can play n learn.

@Nyrwhite09 U bring him up to "save" the team now, it puts even greater pressure on a young man already struggling in that regard. Bad idea.

%s Not a bad thought, but I'm not ready to toss in this %s season yet. Kings won as 8 seed last year. Maybe....

@jrromman if they were gonna move gabby id rather see depth players and cash to resign hags, mcd, step, etc.

@jrromman from my understanding torts and vinny didnt end on a good note in tampa.

@Nyrwhite09 Personally, I'd like to see them move Gaborik. Just doesn't fit Tortorella's system at all. Like the Gaby for Lecavalier rumor.

@jrromman agreed, he should only be brought up to supplement a team that has its shit together.

These guys need minutes to play with or they won't improve with the big club. Can Torts deal with that? If not, keep them in Connecticut.

@TheNYRBlog We continue to disagree on this. The kid needs to develop in a learning environment. Not a pressure cooker w\/ a desperate team

@BillyRaids 100% valid. If NYR put him in this situation it could blow up in their face. But they did it last yr & worked quite well.

@TheNYRBlog Different situation though. No one knew what he was. If he did nothing in the playoffs, it wouldn't have mattered.
