Staal With Facial Fractures, Vision Still Not 100%

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Before tonight's game against the Rangers, Jordan and Eric Staal gave us update's on brother Marc's eye injury.

Jordan told Pat Leonard at the the Daily News that Marc has a scar above his eye that's healed up nice, but has a few fractures that need to heal. Jordan adds that Marc is hopefull to play again this season.

Jordan also told Katie Strang at ESPN.com that he thinks Marc will play with a visor when he comes back.

Meanwhile, Eric tells Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record that Marc's vision is still not 100%, but he didn't lose any teeth.

...good news and bad news here. Obviously, Marc won't be returning anytime soon so we better get used to Hamrlik, but is also encouraging to hear that he's hopeful to return this season.

...btw, Torts' head must have exploded after hearing that the Staal brothers gave these updates. Think he'll send Haley after both of them tonight as payback?

why would Staal lose teeth after getting hit in the upper area of the eye socket?

How about a win...instead of Torts worrying about covering up injuries .be nice if the D could cover someone...

Tort said it on behind the bench and he just said there information that the fans just don't need. He is protecting his players and I agree with it.

Just watch the last episode of Behind the bench. Torts talks all about it.

I dont think torts is mad that Staals brothers gave updates. Did he ever say he was annoyed at that? I know Torts doesnt want any of HIS players or HIS teammates talking about it around the room, but i highly doubt he gives a shit about his brothers saying hes alright.

I think this is different. It was very scary and fans want to know if the guy is ok. I appreciated Marc's brothers giving us an update.

Their not hiding anything. They just dont like to talk about injuries for ^that reason. Just because we saw Staal get hit in the eye doesnt mean its any different. He doesnt like players talking about his club, or injuries. Hes the coach, and thats the way he runs it. He doesnt want to know if Staal is 70% or 90%. All he cares about is can he play.

Its because they dont want anyone knowing injuries. If you knew My shoulder was healing, and you were trying to stop me from scoring, you would just make a big hit on my shoulder. nothing illegal, but thats how it works. Torts doesnt want anyone knowing, or talking about any injuries to protect the players. And what does it matter if we know? all we need to know is Is he playing, or not?.

I literally burst out laughing when I saw the post on Facebook about Haley going after Jordan or Eric.

Well, it's good someone is providing updates, since you can't get anything out of the Rangers organization. Why so secretive? Everyone's seen the ugly play already.

@TheNYRBlog Torts doesn't have the balls to send anyone after anyone for anything anymore.

I may be wrong but I honestly don't think Torts cares if people give updates. There were no secrets in this and I wouldn't be surprised if all he knows is Marc will be okay but not close to playing lol

@Melissa (blknblueshirts) I think it might not be torts on this one, but the Knicks and the Rangers are notorious for flat out lying or giving no info on injuries. Must be a Dolan thing.
