Richards Doesn't Practice as Kaleta Feels Like Garbage for Hurting Team Not Richards
Written by Kevin DeLury on .

The Rangers website reports that Brad Richards did not practice the day after he was violently boarded by Patrick Kaleta.
However, in a piece of good news John Tortorella said that Richards will be fine and no one has been recalled from the Whale making it likely that Richards will play against the Flyers tomorrow night at MSG.
Arron Asham (back spasms) was also absent from practice.
...at least initially this is awesome news. After seeing Richards throw his gloves off while he lay there in agony I immediately anticipated the worst.
Meanwhile, the dirt bag Kaleta spoke about the incident (via Buffalo News)...
"I’m going to keep it as limited as I can, but I’m just sorry for the position I put the team in trying to kill that penalty. I feel for that, for putting the penalty killers out there and them getting the two goals. It makes me feel like a bag of garbage after seeing that."
When asked if he had a message for Richards, he paused and simply said...
"I’m fine for right now."
...so Kaleta is sorry for hurting his team, but not for almost paralyzing Richards. And that's all I need to know about what kind of animal this guy is.

Rangers are a bunch of PUSSIES, Kalletta barely touched Richards. great acting job , if he was hurt then he should'nt have played the rest of the game. Tortelella is such a dick in his post game comments., he was a goon coach of tampa when he was down there. the ass did'nt mention the boarding of Tyler Enis in the third period which looked much worse than what the pussy Richards received. Hopefully the Rangers with there big payroll will tank and miss the playoffs
@bigpud Interesting take dude. That was some acting job, going face first in the boards, then faking the pinched nerve symptoms of body spasms - academy award stuff if you ask me, then add to that the trainer massaging his neck in between shifts, guess he's an actor too; and the real clincher for sure is keeping Brad, one of your best players (in theory that is) off the power play then the missed ice time after only 2 shifts (including overtime), during a tied game - the whole team should hang up their gloves and do some off-Broadway! The Girardi boarding on Ennis (I think that's what you're talking about) was simply a matter of Dan playing hard, finishing what he intended as a clean check but Ennis turned at the last moment. It was a good call by the ref but no intent to injure and not an intentionally dangerous play. That's Hockey. Very different from the reckless, if not intentionally dangerous Kaleta hit. Doesn't matter how hard you cross check someone on skates bent over like that. He's going to go headfirst into the boards. A real player would have backed off the hit or played the puck instead. Maybe you and Kaleta should get together for a beer and become buds. It sounds from your comments like you're cut from the same cloth.
@Betweentheworlds i would definately go out for a beer with kaleta , i don't mind being around guys who know how to play the game physically. . if he was such a dirty player then he would constantly get penalized., but he does'nt. Richards should win an award for diving. and Girardi swhould have been tossed. that hit was way more visious . Rangers are pansies
@bigpud 5 games is a slap on the wrist. 20 games would be using him as an example. The league said that the hit wasn't hard but it was reckless and dangerous and he's a repeat offender so that's why the 5. I can live with that. Richards missed last night game with residual soreness and neck spasms. The Rangers looked better without him. I agree - Hartnell's a dick. Point well taken - we loved Avery and the rest of the league hated him, though he wasn't dirty cheap shots he knew how to get under your skin. No bad feelings. We're good.
@Betweentheworlds i started out with just an opinion , but ended up getting p/o'ed with some of other blogs, and got carried away . nothing personnel , i think the league is using Kaleta as an example . There have been much worse cheap shots , LUCIC on Miller last year and no penalty. , Hartnell is another player who gets away with a lot, i don't see Kaleta as a dirty player. just very physical. most people hate him , but would love him on there team
@bigpud No beef with your comments to me but some of your other words here are over the top. lighten up dude. This is a friendly blog. It's OK if we don't agree. You and I can see the same things and draw different conclusions. It's OK. I've stated my opinions as one who's grown up with hockey. Opinions aside here are some facts that might interest you. Kaleta is a repeat offender, known as a dirty cheap player around the league. The league is watching him. Do your homework dude. this is a fact. Girardi on the other hand has the reputation as a young hard nosed player who plays the game clean and hard. That's why the league didn't even bother looking at his hit. He's a young player still learning the game and he took a stupid penalty but it was not malicious. Half the time that doesn't even get called. Pretty much every expert and reporter on the game would tell you the same thing. BTW Don't take my sarcasm too seriously, I'm a New Yawka and I'm gonna fuck with you, but it's all in fun. .
@bigpud Nice job proving what a moron you are "bigpud". Just another simple minded guy who thinks he knows the game. Speaking up for a dirtbag player like Kaleta (which you spelt wrong) and then slandering Richards shows where you're at. Oh, and by the way you also slept Ennis wrong too
@Dan1494 "spelt " you mean "spelled" , but you know that because you probably teach grammer to NY city kids
@Dan1494 hey dick face just because i spelled there names wrong , does not prove what a shithead u are. look at the video Kaleta barely hit him and Richards took a dive , but because you have someones dick in your mouth you probably could not see the whole video
@Dan1494 nice made up numbers, is that the size of your boyfriend ? oooohh you type so scary. i have to get your mother out of my pants, i keep slapping her to get her off my c-ck, but she loves it to much. your a typical dumb ass new yorker
@bigpud Believe me jerkoff at 6'4'' 235lbs you aren't kicking the crap out of me. Growing a pair is a metaphor, you simple-minded pud. You're just a moron with a filthy mouth who spews stupid remarks. Go crawl back into your hole. This conversation is over.....you are dismissed.
@Dan1494 what the hell are you trying to express? because your to feeble minded your statement makes no sense . if you did'nt know . i am male so that would automatically mean i have BALLS . and i also have played the game for years ,but that was over 35years ago , when real men played . you kids have so much more protection , and you think you have all the answers . i would have enjoyed kick'in the crap out of you in the day.
@bigpud Hide behind your computer "pud" and by the way I played the game on many levels for over 25 years. It is clear that you are a little slow and possibly home schooled. I suggest you grow a pair before taking on the big boys.
@Dan1494 dan how did you get a web site ? i'm impressed that you are able to comprehend what a sentence is . trying to explain to me what my post means is hilarious (because your stupid hilarious means funny ) How would you probably a child explain to me how you would be able to take me on? first of all I'm probably at least twice your age , so i would not feel good about beating up children. (you probably do this all the time). and second you have no means of knowing what city i blog from and i'm sure your mom won't let you go across the street without permission. go bully the children on the playground or play with your barbie doll. by the way Richards is a wimp
No one ever would have picked a fight with you? Why is that? Maybe you played street hockey, but it ends there. Keep living in the fantasy world you're in. You're a punk. Did you know a pud is another name for a dick? Your username says it all. Later jerkoff, unless you feel like dropping the gloves? lmao
@Dan1494 hey stupid , i have played, and no one would have ever tried to pick a fight with me , you keep telling me to learn the game . you have no idea what the hell your talking about. go play with your barbie doll , and your blow up dolls (u probably could never get a real woman) . when the sabres or any other team plays the rangers the little girls in blue and white will cry and pout just like you if any player pushes them around waa waa waa !
@bigpud You never played the game. You are a coward that probably was beaten up for his lunch money in school. Learn the game and grow up.
@Dan1494 u dumb ass , I WAS the guy that kicked your ass on the ice . and if i knew you i probably would do the same to you ASSH-le
@bigpud Hey stupid it's "their" names moron and if you need to use profanity to get your point across, grow up. You definitely never played the game but if you did, I'm sure you were one of the jerks I loved kicking the crap out of. Gotta be either an islander, devil or flyer fan. Either way just a punk.
@bigpud you could of said everything you wanted to say without the profanity bud ??? wonder what kind of a prize package u are?
Suspended for five games was the alert I got from the NHL app. He should have gotten more then that the piece of shit.
What names are out there, as far as 3-4 line guys, that can actually play and bring the toughness we need. Aside from a 6th Dman (we are 5 deep, which is pretty good), the only area we are lacking is depth toughness.
Who is available for mid-round picks and/or prospects
@SetYouStraight I believe at this point we are short a cannon on the blue line and one or maybe 2 power forwards who can add grit.. In the mean time we're going to have to man up
Mcphee21 - first off great name, my favorite NYR of all time. Epic battles with Tocchet. But on to your point. Yeah we dont have that big guy on the 4th line to maybe make some of these punks think twice. Of course we had the Boogeyman, God rest his soul. John Scott briefly at the end of last season. But more importantly, no team cohesiveness yet. No one seems to want to stick up for each other. Look at the BOS/MON game last night. Tyler Seguin gets a cross check in the ribs that is not even called but Chara saw it and even though he is a valuable player, he beelined toward Alexei Emelin and sent an un-mistakable message. Yes MON scored on the ensuing powerplay with Chara in the box, but that type of loyalty to your teammates goes a long way, especially in the playoffs. So anyway, do you have any ideas who might be able to fill that enforcer role for us? Dont know too much about Mashinter yet but he seemed ok while he was up in the NHL. One guy i miss is Colton Orr. Loved his KO on Fedoruk after Fedoruk was running everyone including Jagr the game before when Orr was a healthy scratch. I would love to have someone like that again.
Hey Belt............
Ah...George McPhee....best ever. :)
I hear what your saying about Boston. All the way around...team tough. It's a mentality. You cheap shot one of their players...you're going to answer for it. You blast one of their players...cleanly....you're still going to pay for it. It makes an opposing player think twice...no doubt about it. If Kreider was a Bruin and gets hit the way he did by Oprik...in a game that was already decided.....the Bruins would have been brawling.
We have three kids in the minors...McIlrath on D...in my opinion...his game needs more work before he gets called up.
Mashinster....he can skate...but played a little timid...he was too afraid to make a mistake.
I would call up Haley....he's like a McPhee -Domi combination. He would be a fan favorite.
@TheNYRBlog ja, my garbage collection day is Wednesday, I'm willing to put him out with my trash Tuesday night
Ah....The NHL League Office....the official enforcer of the N.Y. Rangers.
Before the game last night, I posted to watch out for Kaleta. I knew he was going to do something to someone. It was a given. Why? Well, first off, the guy is a known cheap shot artist. And most importantly, nobody fears the Rangers physically. And players like Kaleta will try to get away with murder if they don't fear reprisals.
This all started in January when Kreider got his clocked clean by Oprik. No one did anything. It doesn't matter that the hit was clean, you can't let your players be demolished liked that with no consequences. When opposing coaches and players see that lack of response...they will see the weakness...and they will attack it.
So, what follows after the Kreider hit? Nash takes several big clean hits in the games that follow...then finally misses games when Lucic runs him. Kreider gets a stick in the mouth by McQuaid in the same game. Pacioretty hits McDonagh. Biron get run at the end of the game. Richards gets hit from behind from Kaleta......
Anyone noticing a trend here??
This is not going to stop. It's only going to get worse. As the games left dwindle down, and teams become desperate for points.....the physical play and intimidation will only increase. Nash and Hagelin will be targeted. Count on it.
The Rangers better get an enforcer...a big time deterrent in here asap.
@McPhee21 the trend i noticed is that all the primadonnas, get all the calls . Kaleta hardly hit Richards Richards did a great acting job. ..what about the boarding of Tyler Enis in the third . I don't remember the players name but the goon should have been kicked out of the game also
@McPhee21 I would like to add that this is hockey, its violent and im sure other teams can say the same thing that you are saying about the rangers. Callahan hits everyone he sees...nobody is retaliating and going after Callahan because he hits... Girardi had a boarding call last night, no retaliation from anyone. I think you a reaching a bit.
Oh, i understand it's a violent sport. But I'm talking about violent hits here. Clean hits can be violent in nature. It's one thing to throw a hit, its another to blast someone cleanly...ya know what I'm mean? When I played, I threw the body all the time....it was like I had two different checks....one to hit ya....and one to hit ya...and make sure you felt it. I'm sure there are other people on this board who have played that know what I'm talking about.
We've been lucky so far. Kreider is fortunate that Oprik didnt end his season with that hit. Suppose Nash would have missed more time because of the hit(s) he has received. Suppose McDonagh would have suffered more injuries against the boards? Or Richards maybe suffering a separated shoulder?
The reason why not a lot of people on this board are screaming for an enforcer on this squad...is because we havent suffered the bad hit yet that results in one of our skilled players missing serious time.
Capuano of the Islanders gets it. If Tavares gets hit hard...cleanly.....usually the next shift Martin is on the wing having a word with someone. You have to protect your best players...if not.....the players in this league will grind you and hit you until your dust. It's the way it is.
Until the Rangers rectify their lack of team toughness.....you can keep expecting our skilled players to get drilled...clean hits and cheap shots galore.
@McPhee21 mike brown, while only 5'10 is just as tough as Prust and just went to Edmonton for a fourth round pick...sather pick up the phone please..
Yeah...I like Brown. More of a good middleweight tho. We need that deterrent. We need a little fear factor. Like Kocur's right hand back in the day....
Not taking Kaleta's side here but odds are he was advised by team and NHLPA not to make a statement regarding Richards until he talks to the NHL.
Does it stink? Of course it does but if he says anything about Richards then odds are given the way the NHL works it would be a sign of guilt. If he waits until after he finds out his punishment then it won't affect his "sentence."
If you want to get mad get mad at the NHL for not having a clear standard regarding plays like this.
What a class act. Can't even bring himself to say "I hope he wasn't hurt too badly" or even just "I'm sorry." Even if he doesn't mean it, he has to know it would look good to fans and the league and is the right thing to do, but he still won't say it. He's right - he is a piece of garbage; just not for the reason he thinks he is.
@queensbee Rangers are pussies, you think that the rangers are a clean team? there scum bags that get away with almost as much as the flyers
@TheNYRBlog Please do not offend the animals. They would NEVER do such a despicable thing to their peers.
This kid is trash.
Plays like trash.
Acts and talks like trash.
Was reared by Trash in a shithole outside of a larger shithole in Buffalo.
What do you expect?!
Garbage in Garbage out.
He'll be doing Meth in Buffalo soon.
What a disgrace.
@AnnoyingJoe Agreed. But that kind of hit has no place in the game and anyone who says he didn't know exactly what he was doing doesn't know the game. F*ck him. Meth is a helluva a drug.
