The New York Rangers (16-13-3) defeated the Philadelphia Flyers (13-17-2) by the score of 5-2, tonight. For a box score, click here.
...is there any chance the Rangers can just play the Flyers for the rest of the season? In all seriousness, those are two huge points with games in Ottawa and Montreal looming.
...amazing what a little confidence can do for a team. Get the first goal, feel good about yourself and away you go. Didn't like that they relaxed after getting the 3-0 lead, but tonight's not the night to complain.
...Torts should be fired on the spot if he ever thinks about splitting up the Hagelin-Stepan-Nash line again. Combined eight points (3g, 5a) tonight.
...remember when Rangers fans wanted to trade Stepan for O'Reilly? LOL!!!!!!!
...man, Nash looks unstoppable when he plays with a real center.
...i didn't read Page Six today, but is Richards dating Olivia Munn again? Huge confidence building game.
...based on what we've heard, it sounds like Kreider was just overthinking things earlier in the year (too much Torts in his ear?). Now that he's just playing, we're seeing the Kreider of last postseason. Kid's speed is deadly. Little snarl to his game tonight as well, which was awesome to see.
...while Miller didn't get on the score sheet tonight, I was real impressed with his physical game. It looked like Schenn tried to rough him up a few times and he refused to back down. Big hit on Simmonds was nice also. 10-for-13 on faceoffs.
...looks like the Rangers don't need Zuccarello to spark the offense afterall. Anyway they can void that contract?
...shades of last year with Girardi and McDonagh combining for 55 minutes of ice time. And like last year, they were dominant.
...wonder if Giroux was begging Lundqvist to let him score again. If it wasn't for two bad bounces that's a shutout.
...can't enjoy this one for too long with Ottawa on Thursday.
Just watched the game this afternoon (had to referee B/C league last night) and DAMN. This looked like a confident team. Richards PPG was an ABSOLUTE MISSILE. Kevin, that looked like the Brad Richards who scored power play goals on those videos on that post you made a few weeks ago. His spot is most definitely the top of the right face-off circle. Hope he's got his confidence back. Can't wait to watch tonights game.
I just hope these lines keep playing so well together and that Torts lets them stay together. Each line looked amazing last night. Can't remember the last time I saw so many rangers crashing the net. Bring on Ottawa!
i fell asleep instantly after the first period, but after a while i suddenly woke up and asked my wife to check in on the game. "Richards just scored," she said. Yes, the Richards goal actually woke me from my slumber. Let's hope it woke him too!
The Gaborik miller Callahan line was awful last night, Miller and Gaborik were okay but Callahan was the worst player on the ice yesterday. Maybe switch up something with that line. Put Callahan or Gaborik on the Richards line and than zuccarello on that line.
Lets keep this going boys. I watched the game and step looked like he was shot out of a cannon. How was that line ever broken up!? I think they're together from here on out. Also it's good to see richie with a multi point night.
Best game of the season for us!
I Loved all the lines and Torts should try sticking with these for a while.
I would just like to see Powe back and have Pyatt sit :)
game should have been worse than it was shoulda been a 5-0 shut out, two fluke goals (seems that every game theres a fluke goal or two against us) . Though Richie looked good for once (NOT PLAYING WITH NASH) and hmmm sounds familiar hags-step-nash? who would have thought that was going to work?? I like the new pp unit with step on the point. Lots of points for players tonight, love those nights. If this team wasnt always playing from behind wed have more confidence (see last year) . Ive always pointed out that the rangers sit back with a decent lead instead of going for the kill. One of my knocks on torts, always has been. But great game. I think we beat Ottawa cause its not at MSG.
Nothing to state but the obvious:
1. Hank keeps them in the game after more than a few BAD breakdowns
2. Just damned lucky to have a player like JT Miller. 20yrs/old!!! and is a presence.
3. Kreider is shows he can be the same - and if that is the case we Ranger fans are going to be happy for some time
4. MDZ looks really good
5. GABBY looked really good two. He didn't disappear on the ice at all. Moved really well without the puck.
6. Torts is a great coach but like EVERYONE needs someone to reel him in. He tries to often to fix things that aren't broken. In the final analysis this game is about scoring goals. If you have a line that does that you DON'T break it up...EVER. The logic that you break up a PROVEN scoring line to TRY to jump start a non-scoring line is just so fucking stupid. You lose your SURE THING for the cost of a MAYBE thing. Keep the guys who are working together and how about coaching the rest of the team to try and improve WHILE you are at least still scoring goals!! What a maroon...maybe he's not such a great coach ;)
I thought both Richie and Torts looked like idiots in the post-game interviews. First, Richie is mumbling about how if the Hags Step Nash line worked all the time they would be together all the time. Umm, 7-0-1, dude. That's kinda all the time THEN when a reporter is asking Torts point blank why he keeps splitting up a line with those numbers he starts yammering about how he uses Step to jump start other guys/lines. Are you fucking kidding me?! How about using him to win some fucking games, maybe get some points and make the playoffs! Ass.
I think Kreider has evolved more than he's playing like he did last year. He looks much more physical and is forechecking a lot harder than ever did. And yes, he looks more relaxed which is helping him offensively (making plays). To me, he looks like a guy who finally understands what's expected of him, which makes it easier to just go out and play
Best game of the year! Keep these lines together and kepp Tortorella muffled! He doesn't need to change anything fo rnow.
Yeah, we still need Zuc. The Rangers scored three games worth of goals in one game. That's not going to happen often.
@TheNYRBlog so who comes out when the hobbit wizard comes back?
Pyatt or Powe will be in and out of line up..Zuc on PP is a good thing..good vision good passing great with puck. Gaborik should benefit from him.
speaking of milestones, Lundqvist recorded 266th win and tied Ed Giacomin in 2nd place all time in Rangers history in goaltender wins. Nice night, Nash scores 300th, Richards 250th goal, 550th assist and 800th point.
All good omens for a turning point now with all the milestones, 16-16 record etc. Quietly MDZ is coming along and looking good. This would give us 4 top Dmen and a top goalie. If we can get the offense going now we're going to be very hard to beat LGR
6-0-1 whens Step,Hags and Nash play together. Please leave them alone Tort's.Miller 78% and Newbury 71% on faceoffs, helps alot.Richard's demotion, made us have some good balanced lines.Hope we see the same team against Ottawa and Montreal. After those games,we will see which direction this team should go,add or sell.Hopefully we will be adding before the deadline.Good night for the boys, hope it continues. And geez,we thought we had problems. The Flyers are a mess.
Interesting that with this win,and if you add the 3 OTL to their loss column, then the Rangers are perfectly even at 16-16 with exactly the same number of goals scored as allowed. It's as if they're starting from scratch now, maybe they can use the opportunity to put the mediocrity behind them and finish strong.
%s rangers score 5 goals in one game and they don't need o-help.. They played with skill tonight and Zucc is a skill guy. %s
id like to see cally replace boyle with richie and kreider....throw gabby back on the right with JT miller in the middle and Zucc on the left.....send newbury back, although he hasnt done much to deserve a demotion, just too many bodies...rotate the bottom 4 forwards
@pdoggy I enjoy when you guys come in here, actually rather funny
@pdoggy Hey, they beat a team who couldn't beat a squirts team right now so let them have their victory. Good thing they traded away quality role players for Rick Nash.
#bestintheworld #blueshirtsforever #8thplaceforever
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG You do know you are talking Torts right? Line will be broke up after the first line shift in Thur's game!
@PrimsJim Actually I thought Pyatt played his best game last night, but his results are the same. nothing!
@ChrisP If Philly had an NHL goalie it could have been 2-0 or 3-0 (though he did make a highlight reel save of the hags breakaway)
@jmacwilli Gabby was better - Torts is a fucking moron. for weeks I've been scratching my butt trying to figure out why he broke the line up which propeeled the team to 6-0-1 and when they stopped scoring why he took so long to reunite them. Stubborn ass!
@CJ 6-0-1 before last nights game? They looked good everytime they were together on the ice Richey, and yes, Torts is a fucking moron. the object is to win. right???
@rangersfan Agreed. I thought they brought him back too soon. I stand corrected
@AllyLeili It's unfathomable how long it took Torts to reunite them, I'm sure his ears were ringing the last few weeks from all the yelling I've done here about it. The Flyers might start improving by getting an NHL goalie. Though Gabby was quiet I could see some potential chemistry with Miller. Hope he keeps the lines too
@Van_Ness_WVU I keep Newbury. Pyatt may be better along the boards but Newbury brings more grit and toughness plus more versatility b/c he can play the wing as well as center.
@Van_Ness_WVU I might waive Pyatt, and try and keep Newbury up he has been much more effective
@PezDOY But they beat the Flyers who almost beat the Pens, which means the Rangers and Pens are almost the same. Conference standings are overrated.
@Betweentheworlds @AllyLeili That's b/c Torts is an egotistical, stubborn ass. He probably knew the fans were calling for that line to be re-united but he didn't for fear of knowing the fans were right and he was wrong for breaking it up. I know what I'm saying is a reach but that's because I think he's an ass clown
@slapshot13j newbury has been effective...but pyatt can be strong on the boards...i guess its not a bad thing to have a few guys competing for a spot....competition brings out the best in people
