Here's what the Penguins did last night to go along with their trades for Brenden Morrow and Douglas Murray...
BREAKING NEWS: #Pens acquired Jarome Iginla from Calgary for Ben Hanowski, Kenny Agostino and 2013 first-round pick— Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) March 28, 2013
and the Rangers?
Ryan Clowe is the perfect Ranger. He can't score - and neither can they.— steve simmons (@simmonssteve) March 28, 2013
Hey at least the Rangers officially signed Mats Zuccarello.
...all I have to say, is that the Rangers need to do everything possible to not end up in the 8th spot or they will be swept out of the playoffs.
...as far as moves go, last night during TheNYRBlog "Trade Deadline Preview" Spreecast with Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period he mentioned tough guy, Sabres defenseman Robyn Regehr, who I think would be a perfect pick-up for the Rangers. His $4 million per salary is a bit much, but it would come off the books at the end of the season.
...while the Rangers are interested in Clowe, the first round pick the Sharks are asking for in return is a bit ridiculous and in my opinion, not worth it.
Ill go to battle any day with our top 4 Defense including staal a red hot Hank, Nash, a better Stepan and DZ. if only richie and gabby wake up I like the team and I think Kreider will be better this go round and miller will be good in the postseason.
Hey!!!!! I'm all for getting all these star players to the waddle Birds!!!!!!
Then maybe just maybe The NHL Network will spread the love around instead of just giving Cindy the hummer all the time!
@TheNYRBlog assuming of course the penguins make they playoffs
This just in: Ray Bourque and Bobby Orr come out of retirment to shore up Pens defense. Georges Vezina in negotiations to come out of the grave to backup Fleury--just in case. Lebron, Dwyane, and Bosh are also in the mix. Looks like everyone wants to play for the Pens. Ridiculous...
I dont want Clowe for anything but a second/third round pick. They guy has had an injury prone year, hasnt even scored and is a UFA at the end of the season.
The talk up here in New England was that Boston was going after Iginla hard, but Calgary wanted their #1 from last year, Subban's brother, in return.
Miracles are born on ice. Exact opposite of last year, there would be 0 pressure. Honestly an unreal Hendrik Lundqvist + Staal + Girardi + McDonaugh could easily shut down Crosby + Malkin + Iginla, I'd be more worried about the bottom pair vs our bottom pair d men.
Remember before this season started everyone said that whoever wins the cup would have an asterisk next to their name? Wonder if people still feel the same way...
@TheNYRBlog any word on if zucc plays tonight?
Historically when teams scramble to become so top heavy they often wind up not winning, then giving up prospects and draft picks - the Pens must be very desperate to win this year. Recent shutout and low scoring games aside I believe goal tending will prove an issue for them in the playoffs. Meanwhile we'll see if NYR can pull a rabbit out of their hat. they've already pulled a Hobbit...
Here's Pens salary breakdown over at Cap Geek: http://capgeek.com/penguins
How is Shero making this cap work? I didn't look at capgeek yet but the only way I could see this working is if he's paying Matt Cooke in affliction t-shirts and monster energy drinks and Tyler Kennedy in pig slop...you know because he's got a pig face.
I don't think the Sharks can ask for a 1st round pick for Clowe after what Calgary got for Iginla. Yes the Flames got fleeced but still don't see any GM giving the Sharks that because of it. Although if they do manage to get it, Clowe won't be a Ranger since we don't have one of those (and if we trade next years 1st rounder for him, I give up).
if we had gotten any of these players they just would've underperformed like most of the current team
Rangers don't have a first, so aren't they out of the Clowe sweepstakes? The Rangers have Hank in nets, the Pens still have "Sybil" Fleury. As they proved last year, you can score a lot of goals in the playoffs, but if the other team scores more, you still lose. I wouldn't relish a match-up with the Pens, but I wouldn't be terrified of it either, as long as the Rangers were playing well going in. Iginla on Boston was a much scarier proposition,
@ATCRyan Asterisk if Pens win, none if Rangers win. lol
depends who wins ;)
@danborkes I would assume he would.
definitely no gimme for these guys, but they are playing quite well ... it'd be great to see that streak falter come playoff time
bunch of rich kids
@chrisD 7th will play either Habs or Bruins (they are in the same division). The best bet is to land 6th to play the winner of the Southeast (e.g. Jets right now). 5th would be worse than 6th because you end up playing Boston the way things stand right now.
seriously, we've got some games to win
i'd be happy with another pens first round loss to the fliers
(i always use lowercase and sometimes misspellings out of disrespect)
Honestly, Clowe isn't worth a 2nd round pick. Hope he stays with the Sharks.
lol "Sybil" hey I guess the name fits Fleury to a tee
@gravey94 They don't have first next year, but could give them one in 2014. Either way I don't want him.
They should just keep Gaborik through the end of his contract. He's due for another 30+ goal year next season. Just gotta ride it out at this point and potentially move him at next years deadline.
lol exactly. it should actually be a ** if the pens win with their stacked lineup.
@TheNYRBlog who sits? I assume powe still scratched as newbury has played well and I guess that leaves Pyatt odd man out?
@AG_Blue They may be peaking at the wrong time - they may find too many stars too much ego and a goalie who can look like Hasek one night and pee wee league the next
@AG_Blue @Betweentheworlds they're a team over underachievers. And yes I know this is the pot calling the kettle black, but it's true nonetheless.
@ATCRyan Agree. I never said he was worth the 1st round pick, just that the Sharks definitely won't get it now. (Didn't think they would yesterday either but Iginla deal confirms it in my mind.)
@KevinDeLury Oh, I thought they wanted a first this year. And me neither.
@ATCRyan Vanek is a much better player
@TheNYRBlog like Pyatt I'm personally not sitting asham over Pyatt tho
@gravey94 If that's the case, then good.
