More Gaborik for Depth Rumors
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Elliotte Friedman at CBC Sports piggybacks on the recent Marian Gaborik for depth rumor floated by Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun by stating the reason Gaborik might be available is the return could replace the depth the Rangers lost in the offseason.
Friedman adds that the only way the Rangers do anything with Gaborik is if the trade really improves the team.
...Gaborik proved last game that he can still be a dangerous player in the NHL and it baffles me to see Rangers fans complain that he doesn't fit in Tortorella's system, apparently forgetting his two 40+ goal seasons in that system.
...while Gaborik could absolutely bring back some solid depth in the "grinding" department, I've yet to have anyone explain to me how the Rangers would replace his 40+ goal ability.
...and similar to Garrioch, Mr. Friedman also seems to forget that Gaborik has a no trade clause.

Gabby has changed his game. He has become a perimeter player. He rarely engages in the corners or against the boards. I was having a conversation pertaining to this very subject during the islander game last night. Of course, Gabby gets the OT winner.
I'm just not sure what Torts will do since he has Gaborik playing on different lines every game. He is a pure sniper, and if he is traded how do they replace 40 goals?
I guess the jury is out but knowing Sather I'm sure things are being discussed.
Ranger fans are dumb if they're trading Gaborik for grit. This guy will be 100% better next season than this season just because he won't be coming off of surgery
@TheNYRBlog You thought Gabby had a good game vs Philly?? If he picked the puck up & threw it at Bryz it woulda been harder than his shot.
@TheNYRBlog he's an overpaid waste of space who had one point in six games against NJ in the ECF. Useless in the clutch, enigmatic. Garbage.
@ScottyHockey @thenyrblog @rangrsfan losing cred here. Anyone recall how nyrangers were most overachieving team last year?
@TheNYRBlog @rangrsfan Those slips were all internal, nothing unimaginative Hunter or his collection of mediocre players did.
@TheNYRBlog @rangrsfan They were still a piss poor team that was immensely beatable. Boston, up 2-1 & blew it. Us, up 2-1 & nearly blew it.
@ScottyHockey @rangrsfan Exactly and Hunter tried to emulate the Rangers game plan to make the Caps a better post season team.
@ScottyHockey @thenyrblog @rangrsfan the dude had a torn shoulder Scotty? Jesus Christ
@ScottyHockey @TheNYRBlog Caps WERE a shut down team. What are you talking about? All they did was block/shut down everything.
@TheNYRBlog @rangrsfan Utterly disagree. Three 2-1 games? Caps were not a shutdown team. Bad coach, bad D ... Boston didn't try hard enough.
@ScottyHockey @TheNYRBlog He had a separated shoulder, what exactly were you expecting? You should give the guy credit for being out there
@rangrsfan @TheNYRBlog when they really needed him to score he was nowhere to be found.
@rangrsfan @TheNYRBlog Know what you mean, just disagree that he should be called clutch for a lucky goal in a stupid game.
@TheNYRBlog @rangrsfan watched every game of that series, the Bs weren't the team that won the Cup one year prior.
@ScottyHockey @TheNYRBlog Which has nothing to do with a clutch goal. If a 3OT game winning playoff goal isn't clutch then nothing is
@rangrsfan @TheNYRBlog an unnecessary triple overtime game against a poor opponent.
@ScottyHockey @TheNYRBlog Yeah, that triple OT winner was really un-clutch. No heart piece of shit played with a separated shoulder, too.
The bickering between @TheNYRBlog and @scottyhockey has just made my afternoon! #NYR fans are the best in the world
@TheNYRBlog fair enough. And, like Piazza, Gabby isn't winning a championship or making the Hall of Fame anytime soon either.
@ScottyHockey @NYR_FullTilt @TheNYRBlog And the mush is in. Watch Nabakov stand on his head now. And since he's not DP he won't be concussed
@ScottyHockey Actually, because he's played 700 games on the other wing, yes he probably does need time to adjust.
@ScottyHockey @thenyrblog been bounced around the lineup too. Dude you are knocking an all star who has scored over 40 goals a year.
@NYR_FullTilt @TheNYRBlog it's the Islanders, I'd bet that you could score on them.
@TheNYRBlog Because a guy with over 700 NHL games needs time to adjust. Give me a break.
@ScottyHockey Coming off shoulder surgery and being placed in a new position could do that.
@ScottyHockey @thenyrblog sweet...I bet Gaborik scores tonight...maybe twice? You game?
@ScottyHockey I don't think any of us are objective about them... How could you be when you care so much ??
@TheNYRBlog so fine, you want to buy his bs excuse about last season. What is the excuse for this one? Scored in 4 of his 21 games.
@NYR_FullTilt @TheNYRBlog I'm rarely objective when it comes to this team, I'm a fanatic.
@TheNYRBlog @mikefroccaro And yet he looked just fine against Washington after that. But against a team that covered him, he disappeared.
@ScottyHockey @mikefroccaro That's because injury occurred in Game 1 of that series.
@TheNYRBlog @scottyhockey Scotty...step away from the pc...you are not objective, you're emotional. Lol
@ScottyHockey like @TheNYRBlog said. he was playing with a torn labrum when he scored in 3OT against WSH.
@ScottyHockey @TheNYRBlog what about in he first two series? He was pretty clutch. And he had a torn labrum throughout the playoffs
