McIlrath Thinks He's Ready for the NHL

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

In an interview with Blueshirts United, Rangers 2010 first round pick Dylan McIlrath says this about his NHL readiness...

"That's my No. 1 goal even right now is to get that call up. Obviously I'm not going to get that until I'm ready. I think I'm ready. If it doesn't happen this year, then fine."

McIlrath's defensive coach with the Whale, Jeff Beukeboom, said this about the young defenseman's development...

"He's a hard-worker. He's an in-your-face defensive defenseman that hits hard and doesn't mind sticking up for his teammate. He's improved dramatically as the season has gone by, and every week it seems like he's getting better and better."

...man the Rangers could have used McIlrath's toughness this season. I will be rooting for him, more than any other Rangers prospect, to make the team out of camp next fall.

...real happy to hear that he's improved dramatically in all aspects of his game. After the knee injury and from initial reports I was concerned he'd need another full year in Hartford before he was ready. That doesn't sound like the case anymore.

I have been looking forward to his call up this season. If Torts is committed  to playing youth like Kreider and Miller, why not give the "Undertaker" a chance. He's certainly an upgrade for the 3rd D pairing. It would be nice having someone to clear the crease, and stick up for teammates.

I'd love to see him here, at least until we our their best Dman back, as long as Torts plays him give him a chance to show what he can do at this level.  He potentially brings something this team is sorely lacking

I'm encouraged to read Beukeboom's report.  I wonder if they can give the kid a couple games to see what the NHL is like.  It would go a long way toward helping his development and his training camp campaign next year.

Now that they've opened up at least one roster spot, why not bring him up and see how he does? It can't hurt, IMHO

McIlrath over Fowler may not look so bad once this kid starts demolishing people in Hank's crease.  I'm guessing Hank is his biggest supporter right now.

@TheNYRBlog totally agree re McIrath --- this team needs heart and he seems like he can bring it. Just hope he's capable otherwise.
