Lundqvist Has Headaches After Girardi Elbow
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Lost in the glow of last night's huge victory over the Devils was Henrik Lundqvist taking a vicious elbow from teammate Dan Girardi that left the Rangers goaltender dazed and blurry eyed according to Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post.
Here's Lundqvist on his physical condition after the game...
“I had some headaches the rest of the game. I think it was just my neck got really tight. I didn’t see it coming at all. It just hit me and snapped my head. Hopefully I feel better tomorrow.”
...Lundqvist looked fine for the remainder of the game, so I'm not going to get overly concerned about it, but never like hearing he had post game headaches. Especially with the Rangers concussion luck.

@PenaltySh0t biron should go Sunday he played well last time against the caps, and it will give hank 5 days off... Much needed rest
They need to keep their foot on the gas. If Hank is healthy, he should play tomorrow with two days off after it he'll be fine.
Mild concern I am sure the plan was to play Hank for 2 games sit him vs the Pathers a team they SHOULD (who knows with them) beat without him and then play him Sunday vs the Caps. 4 days rest plus the fact that he played last night and looked incredible doesn't scare me
@slapshot13j Agree so let's hope it's not that. (More because I hate that word and don't want to see anyone deal with that.) I'm just not sure anything will convince me it isn't.
Hank might get tomorrow off with the rangers playing florida but who knows. Keep him rested.
sometimes u don't feel the effects right away...lets just hope he's ok...expect Biron in net tom. night...if Hank's not on the bench tom. night then we should start worrying...
Re-read his quote, they weren't postgame headaches. He said he suffered from headaches from the moment he was hit through the rest of the game. I'm guessing from the whiplash. Either way I'm mad at him for both continuing to play with those symptoms and then telling the media he did it. Makes him and the team look bad even if the team had no clue. I know we need him to play but I would've rather he sat out to make sure he was okay then attempt to play with a possible concussion. When are these guys going to learn???
@Melissa (blknblueshirts) Do you know who were talking about here? Lundqvist... The guy will do whatever it takes to win, and if that meant dealing with headaches to make sure he gets this team 2 points; then he'll keep his mouth shut till after the game. Can't fault him because of that. He also won the game for the rangers hands down. You weren't getting him out of the net. Too big of a game.
@chetti Oh I absolutely understand that but I just don't understand the thought process of these athletes. He has a newborn at home and he's going to risk his future for a regular season game? Yes it was a big one and yes we won cause he stayed in but the long term effects don't equal the short term ones to me. (Ask Staal.) That said, yes I realize there was no way he was getting out of the net and this is how they are trained to react. Doesn't mean I agree with it.
@TheNYRBlog with the Panthers coming to town and now this it's the perfect time to start Biron
Looked to me like it hit him at an awkward angle but i think he was just trying to draw the penalty. I dont think he would have played the rest of the game with a concussion.
