Kreider Scores Twice in Whale Loss

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Chris Kreider scored his third and fourth goals in three games since being assigned to the CT Whale, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Rangers AHL affiliate lost to Portland 4-3 in a shootout last night.

Kreider's first tally of the night was with the extra man, making three of the four goals he's scored on the power play. Kreider did miss his shootout attempt.

Kreider had just five goals in 33 games with the Whale during the lockout.

Here's video of the goals (1:53 and 2:48 marks)...

...i love that all four of his goals since being assigned have been from in front of the net. One aspect that was lacking in his game was toughness, so it's nice to see him aggressively going to the net and outmuscling the opponent for some dirty goals. Confidence level must me through the roof.

...assuming there will be pressure on the Rangers to bring Kreider back up, especially with Richards ailing, but the best plan is to let him continue to work on his game and then as they get closer to the playoffs evaluate how he's progressed and if he can be an asset to the team. Kreider could end up being better than any trade deadline option available for the  Rangers. Plus they won't have to give up anything to get him.

FYI, Brandon Mashinter scored in the shootout.

Just a thought, but maybe seeing a 19 year old kid stick with the big club while he was sent down has motivated him to bring his game to another level.  I wonder how he's doing in other areas besides scoring?

Not many people can play like Nash.  If he played more like Miller, it would be a huge step in the right direction.  Needs to be meaner and to hold onto the puck more / make more plays.

He needs to take a cue from some of his Rangers teammates and start to play more like Nash. Looks like he might be starting to do just that.

@TheNYRBlog Every post you've had about him since his demotion to the AHL could be entitled "Things Chris Kreider Should Do In the NHL"

@TheNYRBlog Is Kreider's recent hot streak scaring you guys at all? This could be bad. Do you think the Rangers may look 2 trade him?

@Lou_Pellegrino No chance. They'll leave him down there until trade deadline time.

@TheNYRBlog I'd hate to see them give up on a kid so early. He proved he can play in NYC.

@Lou_Pellegrino @thenyrblog I am however extremely impressed with JT Miller, kid can play. So smart and calm with the puck

@Lou_Pellegrino @thenyrblog growing pains, he's used to being a top 6 he will never be successful playing 6 or 7 mins a game

@Lou_Pellegrino @thenyrblog I don't think kreider will be traded, they are still very high on him. Cally went thru this same thing

@Lou_Pellegrino @TheNYRBlog I dont think so. He's got too much upside and is signed dirt cheap through 2014. They'd be foolish to trade IMO

@HEELVin @TheNYRBlog I agree. The kid is going to be really good. I just wonder how much Torts likes him.

Mashinter would be better in the lineup than Kreider at this point.

@ShreddyMercury To do what?  His hockey skills are weak.  The Rangers have enough guys who can't score (Boyle, Asham, Bickel, Powe, etc).

@TheNYRBlog exactly what he needs to be working on and exactly the type of confidence boost he needs
