Kreider Scores on DiPietro

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

In his return to the AHL, Chris Kreider scored a power play tally to start an avalanche of CT Whale goals as they chased Rick DiPietro (5 goals on 12 shots) in his first AHL game since being waived by the Islanders in the Whale's 7-3 win over Bridgeport last night.

Kreider was a +1 with two shots on goal.

Leslie Treff at Hockey's Future noted that Kreider's positioning and stick work looked much better as was his physical play.

Here's video of the sweet tip-in from Kreider (00:16 mark)...

Meanwhile Christian Thomas had 2g, 1a as well as six shots on goal and Brandon Mashinter chipped in with a 1g, 1a.

...the headline of this post was one we were hoping to see in the NHL this year, not the AHL, but hey with the way Kreider has struggled to score goals this season I'll take what I can get. For one game at least, it looks like Kreider has accepted the challenge of being demoted.

...makes me angry to see Mashinter pick back up where he left off with the Whale. Proves that he was just way too timid after being called up by the Rangers. Wish he would have been more relaxed and just played his game.

...Thomas now has six goals in this last seven games with the Whale. Loved his one-timer on the Whale's final goal. Hope current Rangers players were watching the game so they can see how it's done.

...hope Bridgeport hid DiPietro's shoe laces after this one. Relax, he wasn't being literal when he said he wanted to drive his car off the Throggs Neck bridge.

Speaking of Thomas, he spoke about his cup of coffee with the Rangers here...

In other Whale news, it looks like despite rumors of a name change, the Rangers AHL affiliate will continue to use the Whale as their mascot.

...Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dipietro last seen standing on the side of the Throgs neck bridge. Seriously if he wasn't on suicide watch before he is now. He gave up 5 goals in the first and was pulled.

Christian Thomas could attract some teams before trading deadline to get a defenseman.

Good for Kreids. Hopefully he will be back in a couple of weeks. He could really help our PP, may have one of the best wrist shots on the team.

Speaking of Boo!!! " Christoval "Boo" Nieves of the Michigan Wolverines was named the Gongshow Rookie of the Month for February. Nieves outscored every other freshman in the country during February and is Michigan's leading scorer. The Ranger's 2012 2nd round pick had points in 5 of the 6 games that Michigan played in February. "

Good to see Kreider get the tally. I was very disappointed with Mashinter, but this stuff happens all the time. Good to see the Rangers healthy again, though I would like to see them acquire some more grit and someone who can really drop the gloves.
