Time For Rangers To Announce Their Presence With Authority
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
While it was great seeing the Rangers get back in the victory column last night as they embark on their playoff push with just 20 games remaining, it's time for them to send a message to the rest of the league that they're going to be a hard team to play down the stretch by starting tonight's game against the hated Devils by doing this...
That's right, it's time for the Rangers to punch an opponent in the mouth and announce their presence with authority.
While it'll never happen, I'd kill to see Torts start the game with Bickel and Haley at forward and have them jump whoever lines up opposite them.
If that doesn't fire up this team for the remainder of the season nothing will.

Rupper certainly stole winter classic & loved his fight in March at MSG in the line brawl but he needed to go.
Announce their presence with authority...lol...I love that line from Bull Durham. ahhh...sigh....I hope that reminiscing over movie quotes isn't the highlight of the night.
i'll settle for the same punishing, relentless forecheck that was their bread n butter. better to start Cally's line, let him set the tone.
The last time the Rangers played a game as big as this one was on the road in Boston earlier in the season. I will take 2 points, I really will, but this team needs to win a game without a overtime/a shootout. They need a statement game where they play as a team get confidence and prove they belong in the Stanley Cup conversation. I could not agree more with this post I hope these 3rd and and 4th line losers like Boyle and Bickel step up to Hailey's level tonight and beat the piss out of this team in the first 5 minutes. Hell, I don't care if Gaborik throws his gloves down tonight (maybe it will help him) but this team needs to win a team game just like it did when Richards went down vs Buffalo. Hands down the biggest game of the season tonight thus far not only because of the standings and not only because the Rangers are just outside of the playoff picture but because its the F***ing Devils and its on the road.... deep breath and a prayer.....LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!
I was at that game, and my jaw dropped as I couldn't believe what I was seeing and man the Garden went ape sh*t! LGR!!!
I want to see Kovy get hit so hard he loses's his accent and his balls become earings! Go get him Haley!
@TheNYRBlog I would rather not see a staged dance, I just want someone to destroy Bonehead Clarkson the first time he comes near Hank.
@ScottyHockey @TheNYRBlog although, too much criticism on staged fights. Fact is the game after was clean and competitive.
What a novel idea, wonder where it came from...HAHA! Just kidding. Unfortunately I don't think Torts will dress Bickel for this sole purpose, but I do want to see Haley start.
Brodeur on the bench tonight as a back-up. May be our last chance to pick on Hedberg like the rest of the league has. If our boys don't have 20 shots by the end of the 1st and 50 by the end of the game, then we probably don't get the W.
A regulation win and a loss by Winnipeg to Boston tonight puts us in a 4 way tie for 6th place, and should leap frog us over the Devils into 8th based on regulation wins.
FYI, tonight is the one-year anniversary of the Rangers/Devils line brawl.
@KevinDeLury Awww... sniffle. One year is paper. I think we should get the Devils a scoresheet full of Ranger goals.
Personally, I'd rather see McDonagh level Kovalchuk on the blue line and then shoot a pass to Nash for a breakaway where he forces Hedberg to pull both groins just anticipating the move that Nash is about to make on him. Fatso is forced to come in, at which point he gets lit up in a big way by the top 6 of the Rangers and finally gets bowled over by Pyatt, crushing the 12 pack of Munchkin's he keeps in the back of his pants and sending him into an uncontrollable crying frenzy, effectively ending his career.
But I'll take a win just as well.
This is what I do not like about my Rangers!!!! We have absolutely no snarl! Even when we win they almost put you to sleep! I want a team who is always looking for a way to put their dirty stinky glove up in someone's face and give them a nasty face scrub! of course you want a team to take no crap, but I want a team that wants to just go out and start some crap just because they are in the mood to!! And no I don't mean fights or taking stupid penalties, but good gosh just start a scrum now and then!
Rangers need to come out hard tonight especially since Marty is on the bench as backup!
@ChrisP Led the league in fights last season and they were in first place. At the bottom of the league this year in fights and they're battling for a playoff spot. Coincidence? I think not.
@KevinDeLury @ChrisP You can afford to dress fighters when Gaborik scores 40 goals, Richards puts up 65 points, Cally nets almost 30, and MDZ puts up 40+ points. I don't believe those things are happening this year.
@gravey94 @KevinDeLury @ChrisP we didn't believe them when they were happening now there not and we don't believe it
@johnpal Prust and Dubinski wouldn't put up with shit from anyone and they were trusted and decent players. those are the intangibles that we no longer have. the trick would have been to keep those guys an add Nash. Who would have thought loosing Prust would have hurt this much?
Prust is gone and Rupp went for Powe. We have Bickel, Haley and Asham who are just as tough as the 3 from last year. They need to be turned loose!
@TheNYRBlog Amen to that!! Enough is enough with this team and their dead 1st periods!
