Lundqvist May Have Literally Saved the Season

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

With the Rangers down 1-0 to the Hurricanes and looking more lethargic by the second, it seemed like the season was slipping away in front of our eyes.

So in the second period when Riley Nash popped open on the crease and had the final nail in the Blueshirts coffin on his stick, Rangers fans saw this lost season flash in front of their eyes. That was until Henrik Lundqvist decided the Rangers dream of a Stanley Cup was not ending last night and did this...

And just 23 seconds after that save, Derek Stepan tied the game at 1-1 helping the Rangers to a 2-1 shootout victory.

...now who knows if this save really ends up saving the Rangers season and if they don't follow up last night's victory with another win in New Jersey tonight that save is already wasted, but for one day at least we Rangers fans can feel good about our team again. And as usual, it's because of our All World goaltender.

Here's Lundqvist on the win...

I think tonight would be a great opportunity to put Haley in the starting line-up. Square off against one the Devil enforcers, right off the bat, and set the tone that were not going to take any shit anymore. The NHL can fine Torts if they want, he should be fine with it. We want the win, but win or lose, no more getting pushed around. The Devils may be one of the only teams struggling worse than us the past few weeks. With Marty starting to practice, it's only a matter of time before he's back in there managing to steal games from the grave.

Tonight is a big 2 points that could catapult us into 4 way tie for 6th with Winninpeg (who are playing Boston), Toronto and New Jersey (if we win in regulation). I think its actually a good thing that they boys get to come right back at it tonight after finishing strong last night.

@TheNYRBlog Disappointed as I am with the season I still feel all they need to do is get in. I still feel they can go on a Kings-esque run.

@TheNYRBlog Not sure where the original text comes from but Stepan scored the goal (assisted by Hagelin and Callahan).

He was sliding the other way... Pretty awesome that he managed to change direction and get a little kick on that puck.

Tough to see the team so down in the dumps. They really came alive after scoring that goal and tying it up. Let's hope they come out tonight as if they just scored.
