Hamrlik Not Given Chance in Washington

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Katie Strang at ESPN.com spoke with newest Ranger Roman Hamrlik after his first practice with the Blueshirts about why he only dressed in four games for the Capitals this season...

"There's been lots of changes over the summer with the coaching staff in Washington. I wish ... they would've given me a little more of a chance to play hockey but it's in the past and I'm looking more ahead. It is what it is."

...Hamrlik's numbers really fell off last year as he had a career worst 13 points (2g, 11a) in 68 games. I did think he was pretty solid in the seven game series against the Rangers last post season, but I'm not so sure an aging, declining, $3.5 million a year defenseman deserves more of a chance. Having said that, I'm hopeful the trade gives him a shot in the arm and he takes advantage of this new lease on life to help the Rangers.

Here's video of Hamrlik discussing his feelings on being claimed by the Rangers...

@TheNYRBlog If nothing else, he gives the blueshirts some depth at D, especially with a couple of injuries already.

@donovanbrooks Agreed. Hoping he takes this as a challenge to prove doubters wrong.

@TheNYRBlog hopefully he feels like he for to prove something and plays with a chip on his shoulder the rest of the season

And today the Bruins put Chris Bourque on waivers, he would have been great to claim for depth on our team, much better than Asham.... younger and less than half the price...
