Gaborik Trade Winds Continue to Blow; Rangers Interested in Brassard?
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Marian Gaborik trade rumors seem to be the en vogue subject to report these days and Larry Brooks at the New York Post has jumped right in confirming that the Rangers are looking to move the sniper by the April 3rd trade deadline.
...i've commented about this ad nauseam, so all I'll say is this, one of the biggest problems with the team is chemistry. There is a lack of cohesiveness and trust on this team. These guys are just not willing to go to battle for each other. We have seen time and again Rangers players not sticking up for one another. Hard work, dedication and a willing to win can absolutely overcome talent in the NHL. This team needs to find a way to gel as well as a shot confidence. And I just don't see how trading a guy who has been in the trenches with this team fixes this. Torts needs to work on building this team up, not waiting on Sather to ship out a piece that has proven able to fit in the Rangers system for one that might not.
In other Rangers trade rumors, Steve Zipay at Newsday notes that Rangers scouts have been in Columbus, possibly looking at C Derick Brassard, who carries a $3.2 million per year contract until summer of 2014.
...while the Rangers are in need of depth, especially in the bottom six, how could they justify bringing in a guy at that salary who hasn't come close to cracking 20 goals in a season? Sather has already thrown away $3.5 million on Hamrlik, I'd hate to see him do it again.
...plus, if the Rangers are going to make a trade for a center from Columbus there are two guys I think Rangers fans would rather see them acquire.

@ElManazer En usko Gaborikin lähtöön jos tarjous ei ole megaluokkaa. Brassard, oma 1st takaisin ja pitää olla jotain muutakin.
You people are fucking stupid if you think gaboriks being traded he's been top 3 goal scorer for plast 4 years coming off shoulder surgery no camp and is second n the teamin points and is first on the team in game winning goals not happening lets trade away are best goal scorer when we need help scoring goals no foret the fact that the bottom six forwards have 7 goals between them. There are not trade talks floating around involving gaborik tsn and nhl would be all over it for he's a top 3 goal scorer in the world you think rangers would move that hahahahahaha fucking stupid you guys are
Here are the reasons for trading Gaborik: 1. Clear cap space. 2. Gaborik prefers and plays best as a RW. So does Nash, and Callahan, so... who would you put on the 3rd line? Gaborik, but not at $7.5M you don't. 3. Gaborik has always been uneasy playing in Tortorella's system. 4. This year he sucks. So.... should we keep a $7.5M, 3rd line forward, who is not scoring, doesn't check, backcheck, or fight very hard for the puck?
What we should have for a 3rd line RW is someone like Chris Stewart on St. Louis. He's a power forward with size and strength, plays physical, fights, has a bullet for a shot, and scores (14g/14a to date), and at half the price ($3M), and is available in trade. Now.....you still want Gaborik?
@MikeBlue rangers don't need to move gaborik for cap space they have at the end of this year 12 mill coming off in redden drury Boyle Hamrlik money isn't a issue and if it was why would you trade your best goal scorer and top 5 scorer in the league hahahaha your comment is laughable
if the rationale is that we're not going to be able to resign Step, Mac and Hags next year unless we move Gaby, then that is one thing. But to think that he's washed up is nonsense.
Much to everyone's delight I'm sure, this is the last time I will post on this subject. I've had a torn labrum. I've had surgery to repair done at the Hospital for Special Surgery(ie good doctors). My shoulder isn't the same. It's about 70 percent of what it was). Also, I don't have a full range of motion (at least not without pain). Some people have a bettwr result. Gaborik was not one of them. Gaborik is not and will never be again the player he was. People have to stop blaming Torts for gaboriks subpar play. It's akin to blaming a baseball manager for a pitchers subpar results after coming back from Tommy John. Can anyone remind me of a goal this year where gaborik scored by ripping a wrist shot from 10 feet or more? All the goals I can remember are tips, slam dunks, or slap shots.
@TheNYRBlog some times a trade has players thinking about their security and if they want to stay they usually dig deep down and find heart
Wow what a surprise.... A moronic move by John Tortorella. Not only does he put Richards, Gaborik and Nash back together, but he keeps Gaborik on the left wing instead of putting him back to his natural right wing.... And everyone wonders why Gaborik continues to struggle, look at how Ovi is doing on a new wing compared to what he used to do.... It is a joke Torts doesnt see this
Cally and Duby: 2004
Staal and Sauer: 2005
Anisimov: 2006
Hagelin: 2007
Del Zotto and Stepan: 2008
Ah, I think the youth movement and the commitment to home-grown talent started long before Trots came to town! Everyone who is saying "calm down" is also forgetting how many contracts will be up in two years...So yeah, lets sit around and and wait another twenty games and then fire Torts so then we can have a slow start next season because the players are learning a new system.
Also, some of the talk about being a contender for the next 6-8 years is laughable considering that no one can predict how picks will develop (look at Prucha, Cherepanov, Grachev, and Sanguinetti).
I'll agree. Some chemistry would be nice. Some goals from somebody not named Nash, Richards, Callahan, Stepan, or Hagelin would be nice. A goal from Gaborik (he needs to net more than one), Girardi, McDonagh, Stralman, Del Zotto, or Eminger would be nice as well.
@TheNYRBlog im beginning to become disappointed in this franchise if that really is their solution. Trading talent away. He needs confidence
The Rangers don't need Brassard and need to keep Gabby. He is a former 40 goal scorer and will be again. I just hope he is with the Rangers when he does. Put him back at his natural position and have the genius behind the bench stop critizing him
%s exactly,i really think %s needs to acknowledge the mistake of trading dubes n get him back.i think columbus would trade em'
Media is already in panic mode…
I hope Totrt is smart enough to find the way to motivate Gaborik instead of hummer him with criticism.
%s torts has ruined gabby by putting him on RW. Torts needs to bite his lip and just let them play!! %s
Yeah, I think everyone has had some time to chill, and we see how silly a Gaborik trade would be. At this point, I really just want to see how this season goes.
This is crazy that we are shopping a two time 40 goal scorer with us in 2 of 3 seasons because hes in a slide just like the rest of the team. Who could possibly make this trade worth it? 2 good griders a pick and a top d man/ forward? PSHT. we are having trouble scoring goals, we finally get two proven goal scorers on the same team and they want to immediately trade one? Stupid.
I am not for the idea of trading Gaborik, but if we did I would definitely want to try and work with San Jose and get Marleau in return. Maybe we throw in Boyle Thomas and a 2nd rounder and also snag Clowe. That would be a great trade for the Rangers in my opinion
Why is everybody all up in arms about exploring a trade with Gaborik? How about we first see if the trigger is pulled and what we get in return if it is. Then we can all either praise or criticize the deal.
@JohnPiccini Because we're fans and we over-react about everything. lol
@KevinDeLury Rangers are going to run the table and win all their remaining games! How's that for an over-reaction? LOL
put Gabby back on the RW and let him play..McIlrath would have been a better option than hamrlik...
@topjosh he is in a development year. Not coming up to the NHL this year, but next year he will be. I hope we can dump Hamrlik for sure
%s while I agree that it's a waste to trade a marquee player esp this year, Gabby needs to harden up along the boards %s %s
@BobbyCorduroy Couldn't agree more. Not making excuses but I have to wonder if shoulder is still bothering him.
%s if that's the case, it's on the whole %s org to recognize and sit him we've got some kids that could use the ice time
@BobbyCorduroy Very true, if he can't perform due to the shoulder, he shouldn't be playing.
We have enough of these type of guys in our bottom 6. No thank you. I've said it before, if we trade Gabby it better be for something of equal or greater value. I hate to say it but I'm at a loss with this team. It completely baffles me how they are losing. It has to be chemistry and lack of will. I also think its a bit of Torts cutting off his nose to spite his face.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG If we were to trade Gabby, which I am not for how about this trade.
Gaborik
Boyle
Thomas
2nd Round
for
Marleau
Clowe
And then dump Hamrlik
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Completely agree with your assessment of the problem.
@TheNYRBlog NYR probably trying to light a fire under him w\/ trade rumors - doubt anyone trades for him given the cap hit for next season.
