Boyle Needs to Build Off of Goal

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

After seeing Brian Boyle mercifully ended his 23-game scoreless streak to open the season and do this...

The first thing that went through my head was this...

For some reason I remembered the relief Brandon Dubinsky had on his face when he snapped a 14-game goalless streak to start last season, so I can only imagine the monkey that was taken off Boyle's back yesterday when he did this...

Here was John Tortorella's thoughts on Boyle...

“He played better today. Obviously, he scores a big goal for us. He brought some pucks to the net, which is an important part of his game.”

Boyle talked about his recent struggles after the game...

...got to hope now that Boyle got the first one out the of way, he can relax and just play hockey. I can't imagine the stress and pressure he's been putting on himself this season.

...while Boyle has struggled mightily this season, the fact of the matter is the Rangers are a better team when he's in the line-up playing his game. Which means winning face-offs, strong on the penalty kill and using that big body to cause havoc by going to the goal. If he can do that on a consistent basis he will be in the line-up more often than not.

...unless the Rangers make a trade at the deadline, the only other guy I can see bumping Boyle out of the line-up is Kreider if he figures it out with the Whale and is recalled.

Think Boyle needs to benched every other game so he comes out like a tiger when back in the lineup. :)

Brandons goal was much more of a relief for some reason.

Is it chance that Boyle scored while on the ice with Cally, and Hags? Boyle needs to have better linemates and he will be more effective, & net more goals. He isn't good enough to elevate, he needs to be elevated.

@vatsupper8 replay made it look like Cally deflected the puck.

Most impressive and physical performance I've see from the team so far this season.  So glad Boyle and Richards have gotten over their respective slump.

I was at the game yesterday and the fact that the celly took place right at the center ice face off dot made me chuckle.

@TheNYRBlog amen. Team needs him to play the way he has the past 2 years. Won't pot many goals, but be the Bowling Boyle of old.
