Asham With Team; Hamrlik Not Sent to Whale; Same Line-up
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Arron Asham traveled with the team to Buffalo, however he did not work out with his teammates on the ice and will not play tonight.
...Haley's emergence has made Asham's absence obsolete. While Asham is clearly more talented, I think Torts likes the sandpaper Haley brings to the line-up. Will be real interesting to see what Torts does when Asham is healthy.
Meanwhile, after the morning skate, John Tortorella indicated that Roman Hamrlik will not be sent down to the CT Whale for conditioning, but will instead work with Jim Schoenfeld to get in shape. He will not be in the line-up tonight.
...with Staal expected back in 2-3 weeks and Eminger stepping up his game lately, you have wonder if the Hamrlik claim was even worth it. He's essentially become a $3.5 million waste of a roster spot. Plus his acquisition basically kept the Rangers from re-signing Zuccarello.
Gross adds that the line-up tonight will be the same as Sunday's, except Henrik Lundqvist gets the start in goal.
In Sabres line-up news, they will be without Ryan Miller (sinus infection) and Tyler Ennis tonight. Ennis has 7g, 11a on the season.
...big break for the Rangers tonight as Enroth, who is 0-10-3 in his last 14 games dating back to last season, gets the start.
Sabres head coach Ron Rolston addressed the possibility that the Rangers will be looking for retribution for the Patrick Kaleta hit tonight (via Daily News)...
“Obviously a possibility. The other thing I would say I think they’re normally edgy, so that’s the way they want to play."
Neither Tortorella nor Brad Richards were very willing to talk about the hit this morning, but Haley did address it with Gross...
"If (Kaleta) was in it'd be different but he's not so it's a non-issue. It doesn't change anything for me."
Former Ranger tough guy John Scott will be in the line-up for the Sabres.
...Haley better be ready for Scott's long reach tonight.

Rich was 100% correct...mediocre goalie looks like a superstar, and our superstar goalie looks mediocre again with the REBOUNDS. How many rebound goals has Henrik given up this year...last year he covered up the deficient play of Del Zotto and others, this year he isn't.
You folks do know that when Hamrlik was claimed on waivers that only part of his salary is a salary cap hit. You also realize that the Rangers are only on the hook for a pro-rated amount of his salary?>$1,873,737 is what his cap would if he finishes the season with the Rangers/Whale base it is half his salary from being claimed on waivers. Second seriously who actually thinks MZA would resign with the Rangers after Tortorella wouldn't play him because Torts didn't think he could handle the playing in traffic? The Rangers are more likely willing to let him sign in the Western Conference and recoup a draft pick for him.Sometimes Ranger fans read way too much into "what ifs" and over react to them.
@TheProspectpark Actually I did not know this. Thanks. I had heard that the Rangers had to pay the full amount for the Hamrlik. If that report was in error I appreciate you informing us
@TheProspectpark i thought i heard here that the waiver claim 50/50 share was a past cba thing and not current.
@IcyCup @GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG @TheProspectpark Every article I've read says Rangers would absorb full cap hit, including this one: http://www.csnwashington.com/hockey-washington-capitals/talk/rangers-claim-hamrlik-waivers
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG @IcyCup @TheProspectpark maybe im missing something but i see a full cap hit here.
i could be wrong but i think that the 50/50 split for waiver players is a thing of the past.
want to weigh in on this kevin?
Ryan Miller: "Do you have to tell them I missed the game because of a sinus infection? It sounds like I'm a pussy!" Head trainer: "What would you rather me say?" Ryan Miller: "...I hurt myself eating pancakes?"
I was wondering the same thing about signing Hamrlik and for the exact reasons you cited in the article. He could help our club but we give up Zucs and future signings that could better help the team? Not an expert of course but I don't agree with that move
Out of the line up because of a sinus infection!? I had one for months and didn't even know it! My doctor found it while being examined for my broken shoulder. Holy crap. If Hank missed a game for anything less than a ruptured splean I'd be amazed. Ryan Miller is the reason Ryan Callahan wears silver instead of gold. LGR!!!
getting payback is obsolete tonight. We are winning games and moving up the standings. Stick it to them, and the back up goalie, get the 2 points and move on. Too short a season for these payback games.
@TheNYRBlog can Hamr be traded? still D depth. Enroth shut us out said @AGrossRecord
@TheNYRBlog what i meant to say was can Hamr be traded after being a waiver pick up? didn't know if that's a CBA thing.
@TheNYRBlog either have a better Hamr w\/ vet savvy or trade to someone who wants that. Getting him in shape is a bonus.
@TheNYRBlog way to early to suggest. Not like we don't need the depth n god forbid we have another injury, he'll be useful when conditioned
No excuses, anything less then 2 points tonight without miller playing is a let down... As for hamerlik think he offers a lot more of an upside then eminger when in shape and healthy in my opinion
@slapshot13j Shh! not another word!!! The Rangers are the kings of letdowns!!! If you are a Rangers fan than you suffer from Post Frustration Stress Disorder!!!
@slapshot13j Offers a lot in experience for sure, and he should help the team. Just don't think they should have used those assets on him if it means not signing Zucs or making a better move at the trade deadline.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG @slapshot13j That's the first thing I thought when I saw that stat.
@slapshot13j I'm not sure if I'm over-valuing Eminger, but I think he's vastly under-rated.
@KevinDeLury i agree. not sure why he's been getting the shit end of the stick for so long.
@KevinDeLury I do love the way he has been throwing his body around, some hard checks and a lot of blocked shots
I Love that Haley says "if Kaleta was in it'd be different."
I don't necessarily need to see him fight j.scott, but, whatever ...
@mobilope And a contract that has basically kept Rangers from re-signing Zuccarello.
@TheNYRBlog According to Norwegian media Zucc's agents are in daily contact with the Rangers. translate.google.no\/translate?sl=n…k6j
@TheNYRBlog Sorry but Zuccs is not going to fix any of the problems they have. He's the new Peter Prucha
@TheNYRBlog I think if he really does want to play in the nhl he has to come down on $
@TheNYRBlog does Gilroy really belong on this team? I'm so over him, I say out Hamrlik in until Staal is back!
@deryasahin23 I don't think he's been terrible this year, but an in shape Hamrlik should be a better option.
@TheNYRBlog is there any word on Sauer? Can u imagine how much more nastier our D would be if he were back???
@TheNYRBlog @deryasahin23 the hit was clean but still un necessary .. Just a guy taking advantage of another while he was vulnerable
@TheNYRBlog @andrewsta29 yeah the hit was fine, Sauer just got caught in a bad spot.
@TheNYRBlog @deryasahin23 Dion Phaneuf the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen destroyed his career with a needless headshot.
