John Shannon at Sportsnet reports that word is that Alaine Vigneault is on his way to the Rangers organizational meetings in California to be interviewed.
...nice to see the Rangers finally dip their toe in the water.
In other head coach vacancy news, Katie Strang at ESPN says that the Rangers sought and have received permission from the Sabres to speak with Lindy Ruff.
...while Sather has been slow to get started it looks like this should be a very interesting week in California.
I do not like the way this prawcess has played out. at all. These options do not impress me at all. I'm really starting to think that the torts firing was a knee-jerk reaction thats going to bite them in the ass.
i wouldnt mind seeing viggy being our coach. lets bring some of that western north south offense over here!!!
I just hope they hire someone before if/when Bylsma gets fired. I do not like Bylsma at all and would rather him not even be considered. He doesn't seem to know how to make ANY adjustments during a playoff series and he still think Fleury is a franchise goalie (LOL). His idea of an adjustment is shuffling around who plays om his 4th line. That's about it. I like Vigneault since it seems like Tipett won't be available. Also kind of like Boucher. If nobody scoops Boucher up, and it doesn't seem like there is much interest in him at the moment, I would love to have him on as an assistant. Very good PP in Tampa. Even though Vigneault is good with the PP too, ours can use as much help as possible.
I think Vigneault or Messier ends up being the coach depending which direction Sather goes in. In my mind those are the two main options, although I would like to see Boucher get some consideration too...
Nice to see Sather's finally getting around to interviewing, seeing as how the draft is only 20 days away and I'd like the Rangers to not be scrambling at the last minute like a freshman writing her first term paper the night before it's due...
I'm confused, though... Why do the Rangers need permission from the Sabres to talk to a coach that they fired? I'm sure there's some asinine subsection of the rules that requires this, I just think it's weird and would love to know the real answer if anyone knows.
@Josh6 messier? still?
@queensbee Draft? What draft? I don't think the Rangers have another pick until 2050!
@queensbee I think it has to do with the coach's contract with the club. Torts signed a 3 year extension on his contract back in january, I'd imagine anyone interested in speaking with him about a job would have to get permission from Dolan/Sather
I'm talking from sather's perspective. I don't think ruff is a legitimate option for sather. I think, as of now, it is either messier or vigneault
@johnnyb3910 Thanks. That makes more sense.
