Yesterday, I posted that Ulf Samuelsson and Newell Brown have been mentioned as possible additions to Alain Vigneault's team behind the Rangers bench. Now, Larry Brooks at the New York Post adds a new name to the mix saying that Scott Arniel, the former Blue Jackets head coach and long-time friend of Vigneault, could be an option.
Arniel remains under contract with the Canucks as coach of the club’s AHL Chicago Wolves affiliate and the Rangers are not yet believed to have sought permission to speak to him.
Arniel is currently interviewing with the Canucks about replacing Vigneault.
During his disastrous year and a half in Columbus, in which he coached Rick Nash, Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett and John Moore, Arniel and Brassard did not see eye-to-eye as proved by this statement the Rangers forward's agent Allan Walsh released back in 2011 (via Canucks Army)...
"While I have tremendous respect for (general manager) Scott Howson and the rest of Columbus' management team, the situation regarding Derick Brassard has become untenable. The coach has a history of burying players and using them as scapegoats to mask his own lack of success on the ice. Derick has been singled out, almost from the very beginning of the season, to be the fall guy in case things don't go well. The Columbus organization cares about Derick and has been good to him, but at some point, one has to say, enough is enough."
...yikes! While Arniel may have a nice friendship with Vigneault, the situation with Brassard makes this a non-starter for me. Brassard received a new lease on life being traded out of Columbus, so the last thing he needs is a daily reminder of his tumultuous times in Columbus. Pairing him up with a coach he had obvious friction with makes absolutely no sense at all.
...Nash also had two of his lowest goal scoring outputs with Arniel behind the bench, so I'm assuming Sather won't receive a glowing endorsement for the former Columbus coach from his super star forward either.

this sounds exactly like something the rangers would do! it makes no sense. it's potentially destructive. and it would go over like a fart in church in the locker room. I give it three days until he's the assistant assistant GM/ associate head coach. PASS!!! bring in ulf and someone who knows how to run a powerplay.
Hell no if we can't bring this guy in if we want Nash, Brassard, and Moore to succeed in New York. Obviously Brassard hates this guy and Nash isn't very fond of him either. The guy is a shitty coach NO THANKS!
I'd make a joke about him being better than Sullivan, but after the names we've heard for assistant coaches lately, Glen might as well hire a fan.
I like Brassard's skill, passion, and desire to win for this team too much to even risk this guy. No way.
@Zelrio I dn't know wht are you insinuating but I do think that Ulfie would make an excellent assistant coach
