In an exclusive interview with Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington, Capitals head coach Adam Oates opened up about his first season as a head choch, including losing to the Rangers in the playoffs. And it must be said: it sounds like a bunch of finger pointing and complaining.
On the series against the Rangers...
'' I think we played pretty good hockey for six-and a-half games. I don’t think we got the best shake with the referees, especially in New York [in Game 6]. I don’t think the discrepancy of the calls [five power plays for the Rangers, none for the Caps] were fair, but what are you going to do about it, right? [Rangers goalie Henrik] Lundqvist played fantastic. I mean, my token answer to you is that Lundqvist played absolutely fantastic and we couldn't’ get through him. I talked to a lot of the guys about finding other ways to beat a good goalie and we could’t find other ways to get opportunities.''
- The fact that after a month has passed Oates is still blaming the refs for not calling a penalty in Game 6 confirms to me what I said last month about them losing the series on their own. He comes off completely immature and I blame him for his team's collapse in a series they could, and should have, won. He lost focus which trickled down to his team losing focus.
- Nice to know Henrik Lundqvist got in their heads.
- More on Oates: grow up. First, he takes shots at the now-departed Torts, saying he'd 'easily' beat him up in a fight. Now, he's still blaming everyone but himself for losing in the playoffs. Oates has a lot to learn still as to what it takes to be a head coach.
- Divisional games against the Capitals are going to be tons of fun starting next season.
Oates. One of the best set up his in the NHL, all time. Also a whiney asshole, seemingly, that needs to grow up, and go move his bike out of the driveway.
Oh pleeze! someone get me the violin. A little cheese with that whine Adam? What it comes down to is that we wore them down by being the more physical team - they put up a good fight but in game 7 there was nothing left in their tank. We wore them down the same way the Bs wore us down. Lesson for both teams: toughness rules in the playoffs - skill is great but secondary to brawn. Right Cindy and Pens ? And team toughness starts with the coach - right Adam??? Whimp!!!!
this all trickles down from their cheesebag owner Leonis or Leonidus or Linus or whatevr the hell it is all the way down through the coach and their "captain." very reassuring for non-caps fan. Crapitals. haven't heard that in a while.
If I had an ounce of respect for the Caps, it's gone now. All their players are whiny bitches, their coach and GM are whiny bitches, and their fans are whiny bitches. Fuck them. Just wait until they face REAL division competition like the Pens and Islanders, then watch what happens to their playoff hopes.
This is great. This assures me that the Capitals will remain stuck in the same old rut -- mediocre with occasional flashes of brilliance -- for at last the next year. He & the rest of th Capitals' franchise and their fans are in for a rude awakening now that there's no more cushy SE division. They better start stocking up on tissues now.
What does the last sentence of the quote even mean? Did they realize that shooting the puck on net wasn't working, so they began trying to telepathically place the puck behind Hank?
Hey Oates, waaaaaah. What a baby. I didn't know that during a hockey game, if one team gets a PP the other team gets one in return?! One thing the Rangers did do well this year was limit penalties. They were one of the lowest penalized teams in the NHL, so it is not a surprise that they extended that into the playoffs. Look in the mirror Oates.
Also I would not go after him about hearing about his injury (Horton, chronic dislocated shoulder)... But man is this guy tough... they say his shoulder has popped out at least 5 or 6 times in the playoffs... and he has played through it every time up until the other night... thats hockey
Oscar Lindberg, Carl Hagelin, and obviously Henrik Ludqvist all invited to the camp for the 2014 olympics. Would be cool to see them all make it... obviously Hank will be their goaltender, but I would love to see Lindberg make it, and see how he handles himself with the big boys.
The press conferences after Caps games alone are almost worth bringing Messier in as Head Coach. I don't imagine he would mince words in any shape or form!
you can't expect people to let you win with dignity if you don't lose with dignity. how easy would it be for anyone to just layout on any question regarding you're feelings of being cheated a month after the fact? if I had his job I'd just tip my cap and keep moving.
@PenaltySh0t Amen to that!
@Scott_from_JerseyHa Ha Scott!
"I hurt myself today,
To see if I still feel.
I focus on the pain.
The only thing that's real.
The needle tears a hole, The old familiar sting. Try to kill it all away, But I remember everything.
What have I become, My sweetest friend? Everyone I know, Goes away in the end.
You could have it all, My empire of dirt. I will let you down. I will make you hurt."
@Josh6 You can be sure that all 3 will make the Swedish team.
