Today's open thread topic?
Trolling. And all of its splendor.
We've seen some fine instances over the year in every walk of life, but last week the NHL was a part of it and, man, it was a classic. Let's take a look.
The ESPN Twitter feed, much like everyone else last week, was all about #Sharknado. They tweeted at the San Jose Sharks twitter handle asking when they were going to change their name from the Sharks to Sharknados.
Hilarity and quick wit ensued:
Hey @espn, thoughts on showing more hockey highlights?— San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) July 12, 2013
That's a social media response worthy of the LA Kings twitter handle.
But there's your topic for today -- What is your favorite moment of sports trolling? The comment section is where its at. If you can't recall a nice, savory moment then tell us when you think Derek Stepan will sign, for how many years and how much money.
Stay classy, Rangerland.
so how about MWP signing with the Knicks lol, looks like Kevin was right about the foreshadowing thing. Oh well, wouldve been interesting to see what he could do on skates lol
Sorry I'm late to the party. This is one of my favorites.
Since this is the open thread: does anyone play NHL 13? Ive been playing a lot the past few days, and noticed that JT Miller is pretty much the best sniper in the game. Its like he is the updated version of the NHL 94 Jeremy Roenick. UNSTOPPABLE
This is a pretty good sports troll:
I still say the best thing Scott Gomez ever did as a Ranger was setting up the Sean Avery PP goal after Avery instigated the Avery Rule
How is this not here?
I like to think that this is the best sports troll ever http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidd_Finch
here's a question for the public. I listen to a ton of sports radio as I drive between 3-5 hours a day. obviously, theres a lot of baseball talk this time of year when baseball is the only thing going. it seems like there's more complaints with baseball than positives. it feels like baseball with be the 3rd to 4th most popular sports in america within the next 20 years. I used to watch a lot of baseball but now I really can't be bothered with it. with us becominga "now" or "instant gratification" society is baseball going to become extinct? I remember when I was a kid my parents would put Lawrence Welk on tv when my grandparents would come over, out of respect for them and allowing them to be entertained by what they wanted to watch. now I find myself putting baseball on when my parents drop by out of respect for my dad. to me hockey and football are exponentially more entertaining than baseball. my question is will baseball be the Lawrence Welk of the next generation? haha
Gotta be the green men!
as a giants fan this is my favorite sports troll.
This was last month at the US Open: fan screams fried chicken at Sergio Garcia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl5nDNkdT5o

I dont know if this counts, but "you will miss this putt, ya jackass" from Happy Gilmore - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAyZZoalEaE
Im not sure I would classify this as trolling, but the whole Mitch Williams/Brandon McCarthy fued on twitter was pretty great.
2 come to mind:
1) I think during the 11-12 playoffs Caps fans holding up pictures of Obama to Troll Tim Thomas.
2) Pens fans holding up pictures of a bear to troll Bryzgalov ("I only scared of bear")
better beer mascot? spuds mackenzie or the budweiser frogs? I'll hang up and listen to your response...
MWP on dkates would have Probably made Boyle look graceful- is this guy crazy - hockey is not exactly an easy crossover sport, especially for a guy who weighs 260, and defense no less?. I'm guessing he's played before to assume he can jump right in at the NHL level. Otherwise this whole thing was a hoax, but this is not the only place I've read this.
I play everyday lol, I score alot with Kreider and Callahan. Surprisingly I don't score much with Nash I try to crash the net alot with him like he does in real life but don't score much with him. Also score from the point with a Girardi slapshot often. I really hope NHL 14 is better than the last few, all the players look the same graphics need to be better and alot of the hits are just unrealistic. The EA sports guys are LAZY.
@Farmerjohn22 For some reason they made Gaborik a top 5 player in that game... when he was on the Rangers with Nash... they were nasty... He was the fastest player in the game and had a wicked shot.
I think each game has a guy on each team like that. mine is stepan. he absolutly slays in my game. also, if I have an offensive zone faceoff in the right circle and draw it back to dz and let him wrist it to the top left corner better than half the time he scores.
@gravey94 that would be bad....
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG no. no need to turn on the bubble machine.
@Farmerjohn22 Totally forgot about the Stars/Cowboys moment! That was perfect, just because I'm a Giants fan too.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG St. Paulie's Girl ;-)
@Betweentheworlds i think he was referencing the teams that play in the buildings, clippers and lakers play in the same arena as la kings, and the Knicks and Rangers obviously play in the same arena. it was like announcing he was going to the Knicks without actually saying it
@Rangers3024 I did play every day... Think my record was 300 and 40. Traded in my PS3 for credit towards a PS4... now I have nothing. Worst part is... NHL 14 is not going to be available for the PS4.... which just shows how fricken lazy EA is... assholes
Yeah I've found that also. Really pads the assist totals for my center in be a pro especiLly because I olay in florida and have Bryan Campbell
Kevin Costner is the only thing more boring than baseball haha in fact his personality best personifies the personality it takes to enjoy baseball anymore.
I take it that you are just saying he will sign since I can't find anything. thanks for getting my hopes up haha
I'm sure, though I had read elsewhere that he wanted to be a hockey player, probably just rhetoric that the press jumped on as it came out after he was amnestied. Would the Knicks even want this guy?
Dude that sucks I didn't know it wasn't going to be available for PS4. They really are so fucking lazy it's rediculous.
yeah, a few people were a little pissed
only last time i said 5 years, $4.2 million per
i thought someone might explain ... i said the same last week ... this is me wearing my would-be troll hat ... i won't do it again
