One aspect of the MSG transformation I've been looking forward to the most are the proposed bridges that are supposed to be suspended over the arena. Here's some great renderings of what they'll look like which were posted over at HF Boards...
Meanwhile, reader Stephen F. sends me this pic of an MSG model with the bridges...
Finally, Madison Square Garden CEO Hank Ratner discusses the final phase of the construction, including the bridges on Fox Business News...
...i know there's been mixed feelings on the bridges from Rangers fans, but I like the uniqueness of them. Plus, it seems like, from the renderings, that the bridges are more like seating sections than just a walk thru. Wonder if these seats will cost more or less than regular 200 section.
...a couple of negatives is the potential of an obstructed view for the seats in the last few rows of section 200. If nothing else the bridge will likely block the new scoreboard. Also with the bridges suspended over fans, what's to stop those drunken fools sitting in the bridge seats from dropping food, drinks and other items on those below?
I'm in the 7th row of the 200's so my seat will probably be OK. But people further back are probably just going to get screwed. You likely won't be able to see the score board and I think it is just going to be very distracting.
It's a bloody gimmick, which when finished will add precious little to the experience while taking away a tremendous amount. MSG is iconic and did not need this.
Even if the upper sections can still see the entire playing surface their view of the open arena will be lost. They ignored the fact that fundamental to the experience of enjoying a game is the cavernous feel of the arena; the unencumbered view of "you among many". An arena is a bloody cathedral and they just split the view in half for hundreds if not thousands of people.
I am a lifelong Red Sox fan too and this is NOT like seats on top of the Monster. This is in the line of sight!
We are talking Original Six here! This is like the Yankees using an alternate jersey.
You are pathetic Dolan. You can't see the forest for the trees, so now we won't see the real arena experience for your wanton desire to turn an icon into a sideshow.
I am on the fence with these things as well. I mean I love the West Balcony, the 1st rows on those are the bomb. But what it does to the last few rows of those old 400s is OUTRAGEOUS! I mean you literally only see one half of the ice!!!! But that is just on 1 end.....now if these bridges are going to block any rows of the new 200s, it seems like it will be arena-wide. It really confuses why they would do that to ticket holders. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Dumbest idea I ever heard of in an arena. Dangerous for fans and I can see multi lawsuits. I'll never go to MSG again, that's for sure.
It's only gonna take one jerk off to ruin the bridge for everyone else. I hated this idea from the get go...
Bridges are cool and all but the 400 Section needs more urinals. Sucks having to go down a level to take a piss.
They added em to the seating chart and the view from seats here: http://rangers2013.io-media.com as well.
hopefully they have some high glass on the sides to prevent having things thrown. if not they can call them the torts bridges since he loves throwing stuff over the glass onto fans.
Gotta say MSG was one the arena without a bad seat in the house and while it needed upgrading and looks beautiful creating more and more obstructed views which I was a Victim I last post season. On other hand those seats can be had pretty cheap if you don't mind constantly sitting standing to see the action
Oh, and for the drunken fans line, has there been an issue with this in the West Balcony? The few times I have been up there, it hasn't. But that was like literally 4 or 5 times. Maholla!
@queensbee They are doing it. Already in seating charts.
@CJ Thanks for sharing!
They have problems with people throwing things but it isn't limited to the West Balcony... I think this provides much more opportunity though.
@Ridgewoodian I don't think so, but I think the bridges encourages it. Just my opinion.
@KevinDeLury DISKLIKE. I f-ing hate the Dolans.
@KevinDeLury Clearly I'm so mad I can't even spell "dislike" correctly.
