The Rangers are now members of the new and improved
Metrosexual Metropolitan Division and will begin the season on Thursday, October 3rd in Phoenix.
The Rangers will then play eight more games on the road before their home opener on Monday, October 28th against the Canadiens.

The other division names are the Atlantic in the East and the Central and Pacific in the West. For more on the Division names, click here.
...first to the Division names. In a word, horrific. The re-alignment gave the NHL an opportunity to right a wrong by reviving the old Patrick, Adams, Norris and Smythe names and in typical Bettman fashion they BLEW IT!!!!!
...and are they kidding me with Metropolitan Division? If they wanted to define the areas of the cities, they should have called the new Central Division the Suburb Division as well.
...to the schedule, the NHL makes another flub by not opening up the Rangers schedule in Vancouver with former coach vs. former coach. Now I have to get excited for Phoenix. Yeah!!!! Ok, they could be playing a Pee Wee team for all I care on opening night, but still, terrible job.
Look, I get it. There are always people who complain about the people making the decisions. But, I consider myself a sensible man. So that said, what kind of unfathomable type of stupid is Bettman to even have a goofy name like "Metropolitan" in the NHL? This will hang over the league like a cloud of fart. Holy Mother of God, only Bettman could make us long for the blight that is corporate sponsorship that has plagued other sports. The Domino's Division would be a welcome alternative to that meaningless, generic crap. This league has a history....use it.....sell THAT! Go back to the Patrick Division. Those names of yesteryear slide perfectly into the Stanley Cup. Why not change the name of the Cup to "The Big Important Cup". Unreal.
At face value, starting off on the road for so long kind of stinks, but it could be a really good thing. Pick up as many wins as possible and we're in good shape for the home stretches. As for the division names, I don't mind metropolitan, I just don't like that not only are we not the Atlantic anymore, the name is given to the other division. Makes no sense.
personally, think its good to get a lot of the west coast swing games done early on in the year.
I'm pumped they are opening against the yotes but thats just because of go to school at the U. of Arizona and I can drive up north for the game!!! LGR
I know we were always going to be starting on the road, but man we get thrown right into it playing 5 of the best teams in the Western conference right at the start, Rangers better be ready to go.
Since I live in southern California I will be looking to hit 3 games the opening week of the season! PHX, LA, and Anaheim. If anyone is out here and is going to go (all 3 of those games are home openers for those respective teams) let me know!
Not a mention of last game of the year in house of horrors... Knowing the rangers that will be a huge game.
Are they opening on a huge road trip because the next phase of MSG remodel won't be completed by then?
I understand why they want geographic names instead of cool hockey history names. But Metropolitan? And Detroit and Buffalo play in the Atlantic? C'mon, that's just stupid.
You expected Bettman to do anything right? There's a very good reason he is booed everywhere he goes.
Metropolitan is a TERRIBLE division name. And if the alleged goal (as was previously stated) was to make the names more "fan friendly" (whatever the hell that means), Metropolitan doesn't really tell you anything anyway! And seriously, Carolina does not in any way meet the definition of Metropolitan.
I hate Bettman like fire.
@jmacwilli One day maybe it'll be called the "Geico Cup" with a big logo on the top of the chalice. I could see Bettman and the owners doing that.
@NH_NYR_88 Yeah as a season subscriber that is going to be brutal
@FREE LINDBERG I'm not defending Bettman at all, but he's really just the owners' puppet.
if they do their job, it won't matter
@pkh33 Yes, similar to the last two years.
@cjmac49 It is not just Bettman. It is the NHL in general. Bettman is just one person. The NHL does seem to be making money despite themselves. Oh well.
@greggray24 Yeah, but Olympic hockey is pretty awesome and worth the break.
Whether its for 1st in the division or a playoff spot. I bet that game means something, and that does not bode well...
@pkh33 Sorry, like they were supposed to do last year before the lockout.
