The deal is two-years, $4.5 million for a $2.25 million AAV. Hagelin will remain an RFA at the end of the deal.
...this is a bit rich for my blood. Was hoping for between $1.5 & $2 million. Less money available to get Zuccarello re-signed. I still think it can get done but much harder now.
...had to assume once McDonagh was signed the rest of the RFAs would be back in the fold in short order. Hopefully, next up is Stepan.
after all is said an done MAYBE they will trade for HARD hitting guy that will fight as well.thry have options, just hope they make the right choices.dec. could be i hope they don't wait till 2014 after richards is gone.
BTW, for anyone worrying about the Rangers being over the cap, it would seem that Hags and Cally are going to be placed on LTIR for the start of the season (i.e., expected to miss 10+ games or 24 days). If the Rangers are at or close to the cap (without going over) and then the place Cally and Hags on LTIR at the end of camp, they get relief of their cap hits while they are on LTIR. So if the Rangers are at say $63.3M when camp closes and they put them on LTIR ($6.3M cap hits) they could go over the cap by $5.3M ($63.3M + $6.3M - $64.3M). I still think a trade is coming, but it does leave wiggle room. But also something to remember is the cap hits of the AHL guys (Allen-$1.8M, Fristo-$1.3M, Miller-$1.2M, McIlrath-$1.3M, etc.). Glad I'm not the GM!
I wouldn't worry about Hagelin getting paid "too much" with this deal. It's fine and fair and I'm happy about it. Assuming Stepan and Zucc resign there will be 3 extra veteran forwards (assuming you include Krieder in the current mix). That does not include Miller and the other rookies. They've already "sent down" Asham and Powe (two somewhat capable NHLers) and figure that someone (personally hoping for Pyatt) will be traded. Figure during/after training camp when they get a better handle on what they have with their youth a move will be made. But at least right now they've ensured that the team has better depth than last year
A little steep? Look at his numbers over the past 2 years. He's trending way up, he's young, he's fast. AV will let him loose in his system. Only downside is he'll command more after those 2 years. Perfect "bridge" contract for the Rangers.
Could really be in a bind if someone gave an offersheet with a cap hit of 5.5+ a year... better get Step done quick
And let me make this clear... I don't care how it will have happened, but if the rangers don't bring Step back (which I still think will definitely happen) Sather is the dumbest human being on planet earth and should be fired immediately. He has spent hundreds of millions of dollars looking for a first line center (Gomez, drury, Richards) and now that he has one he doesn't know what to do with him...
I can't reeeeeally argue with this. it would have been nice to get him for .5 to a mil less but I'm glad it's done. you'd have to assume step gets 4 mil now unless he loves zucc and chips him off .5. if hags gets some finish to his game then he's an absolute game changer!
Think Hags as just more an offer sheet target wit Step saying he wnts to play here for life...only matter of time for him now
That's what I was thinking as well with Cally's and Hags out to start. Step gets done within the next week or 2. They may do Zucc in Aug. when they have a better idea of the cap ceiling but I expect both to be signed.
That's all true but it doesn't address their need to be tougher, it's possible they'll evaluate their depth as next season rolls on and decide who to trade for more grit when toughness becomes a greater factor after around Dec., that is if an offseason trade doesn't happen
Just based upon the cap structure and what the team needs but he made a big leap last year in his development so it's all good
@FREE LINDBERG I already explained yesterday that would cost 2-1st rd 2-2nd & 3rd so no one is going to pay that comp.
@FREE LINDBERG Summer cap = $70M. Sather will match then trade someone before the season starts. No worries.
@FREE LINDBERG Dude you worry too much. Step will be done soon. He has no leverage no one is gooing to give him an offer sheet the comp is too much 2-1st 2-2nd & a 3rd
@FREE LINDBERG Stepan will be signed, I'm not worried about that. I would like it to be a long term deal like what McD got, but I don't know how likely that is anymore.
@FREE LINDBERG Come in off the ledge, free agency is 5 days old!
@FREE LINDBERG Nervous over what? They signed 2 of the 3 main guys. Stepan is next.
To play out your "worries" What r u worried about? Him getting an offer sheet is not happening. Even he does the Rangers will match but no one will.
However your worry is as baseless as Hank leaving for the Pens.
and Zucc gets the cup winning goal
i can't imagine that ...
@gravey94 @FREE LINDBERG We may not agree here, but I think Step is more important than Mac. I know Mac is very important, but we have been looking for a first line center for almost a decade... last year Stepan proved that he could be that AND he is homegrown... He has the potential to be the best homegrown Ranger player since number 2. I say that because if we were talking about goalies too, Hank would definitely be right there with Leetch if he won a Cup.
@FREE LINDBERG @gravey94 I never said he wasn't. I simply said free agency started July 5th and it's now July 10th. They're not signing people in order or importance. For all we know, Stepan's agent may be holding things up, or he may be on a beach somewhere unable to physically sign. If it gets to August and he hasn't been signed, then you can start to worry. "Patience you must have my young Padawan."
nobody said anything about shootouts
Step is definitely a priority. Hagelin getting more than we thought doesn't mean Step gets less ... until we see it come to pass, but I don't think we will. Stepan will get the good deal he deserves.
