If you're like me and are a complete mush when it comes to betting then this open thread is not for you.
Yesterday, Pro Hockey Talk reported that the online bookmaker Bovada released the odds of all 30 NHL teams winning the Stanley Cup next season and the Rangers opened up at 20/1.
The defending champion Blackhawks are the favorites a 6/1, while the Panthers are 30th on the list at 150/1.
So let's start today's open thread by asking you guys to talk about your biggest win or loss when it comes to sports betting. I'd give you guys my biggest win, but I'm still waiting for it. I'd also like to hear your thoughts on the Rangers odds for winning next season.
And since we're talking about sports betting, it gives me an excuse to post this scene from one of my favorite and most under-rated movies of all time "Let It Ride"...
someone gave me 10,000/1 odds that John (cougar) Melloncamp will win an Oscar. I put 20 bucks on it. I'm still waiting for that horse to come in.
Yeah last year the rangers had 6/1 odds to win, but it's hockey, and hockey is unpredictable. So no I don't trust these odds. The reigning champs always get the best odds in the beginning, but there has been nine different cup winners in the last ten seasons.
I won 42 bucks on a $2 bet for a horse to win/place/show. think it was a 6:1 odds. not a huge gambler though. I have a friend who bet 20 bucks on a 9 way parlay and won like $33,000
$1.1M for Zucc is fair. Pavelski just signed for 5 years and $30M in San Jose. Stepan at 5 for $25M would be a money-saver for the Rangers. Stepan will rival or be better than Pavelski over the next 5 years.
So there hasn't been a repeat Stanley Cup Champ in 16 years, yet somehow the Blackhawks are the favorites? Yea, that makes sense. Honestly, I'd have to say the Rangers would be no worse than a 10-1 shot at winning the Cup, but trying to handicap now is ridiculous since so much can happen in the next 11 months. I don't have any real money big wins, but I did win $5M once in online Zynga poker!
I've never bet on sports and probably never will. While it's fun to look at the odds, I don't like your chances of winning.
Sportsbook.com lists the Rangers at 14-1 which is about right for where they finished a year ago. So yeah, Bovada is way, way off... or the guy setting the lines is an Isles fan or something.
Bovada also lists the Oilers as a 20/1 to win. Either they know something we don't, or they set their NHL odds by monkeys throwing darts at a board.
@gravey94 Dude you won $5 million!!!!! Can i borrow $10?
@TheWrage Yeah, I saw that. Something's up with that. I might have to throw a couple of bucks on them.
@gravey94 Oh, I'm assuming that's not a pay game. Duh.
