So yesterday Justin Bieber of all people made waves in the hockey world because of this pic of him standing on the Blackhawks logo while snapping a pic of the Stanley Cup (H/T Puck Daddy)...
Hockey fans across North America wanted the pop star drawn and quartered. But to be honest, I couldn't care less. Not everyone knows the rules regarding standing on the logo, so I very much doubt Bieber was doing anything malicious. And if the Blackhawks were so worried about it, why would they display the Cup right behind their iconic logo making it all but certain someone would walk across it.
Yes, the blog has officially "Jumped the Shark" but this is your morning open thread so anything goes. If you'd rather not talk Bieber then tell us about your beer of choice or when you think the Rangers might finally re-sign Stepan. This is your blank canvass, so get after it.

Bull shit they win all those championships without jeter. They still beat the mets... Because they are the mets. But I call bull shit... They don't even get to them without Mr. Clutch.
Someone posted about fleury somewhere... Man I love that guy... Remember the night he beat the crap out of the sharks mascot after a game when he was wasted. Class act... Loved the guy
What the heck. Let's do another GM hypothetical, since he's not signed yet. Stepan for Huberdeau straight up?
Decided to do a TheNYRBlog Kovalchuk farewell post: http://www.nyrangersblog.com/2013-articles/july/kovalchuk-retires.html
Hey Devils, I know where you might be able to pick up a center to help fill out your roster. He's only got a $6.7M cap hit!
Holy shitballs Kovalchuk just retired: https://twitter.com/NHLDevilsPR/status/355409585886076930
If the Chicago BlackHawks go on a long standing Stanley Cup Drought they will definitely call it, The Curse of the Bieber.
I never thought I'd see the day when Justin Bieber would grace his presence on the front page of this website. End of an era.
Hank for Crosby straight up? If you're NYR GM, do you make the trade? How about Hank for Ovi straight up?
I just posted Dom Moore conference call from yesterday if anyone is interested: http://www.nyrangersblog.com/2013-articles/july/rangers-were-moore-s-first-choice.html
Hank's deal will be all about leverage on either side......sentiment be damned. On one side is it about winning in NY with a team that is now fashioned after the N.J. Devils' winning years (defense/goalie first with opportunistic offense) vs winning somewhere else with a team that Hank would complete and take to the Cup finals.(I do not think there are a lot of teams in that position right now.....what do you guys think??)
I think it is very difficult to build a team like the Hawks (with all that real tough offensive talent) in the age of The Cap. It takes years of losing to get the picks......ability of a staff to select the right talent and the patience to develop it. Rightly or wrongly that doesn't spell NYC. We are not a patient lot....are we?
Hank loves The Big Apple. He is a Big Apple kind-of-guy. He will sign for the big bucks he deserves
@AG_Blue Whatever the number will be, they better sign him quick before Lamoriello decides to use some of his new found cap space!
they're probably a little bit fucked
@KevinDeLury Damn, I came on here to break it! you beat me too it. My irst reaction was "hell yeah" but is this all bad for the Devs? They get rid of that enormous contract...
@shoot_the_goalie yes and yes. Goalies are easier replaced versus MVP players. Dont beleive all the talk about Ovie.. that guy scares me every time he has the puck. I would shake Hank's hand and wish him luck and take my chances with Ovi Step Nash and Tim Thomas in goal!
@shoot_the_goalie No and No. Crosby is a literal head case, and Ovechkin is a "me" player. Stamkos or Malkin, perhaps, but I'd have to think hard on those.
@shoot_the_goalie Depends on who the Rangers can bring in to replace Hank. But I'd say yes Crosby, no Ovechkin.
@shoot_the_goalie I make either trade if for no other reason than excitement - trading players like that for one another is just fun. Well...maybe not Ovi. Slackers can work in baseball (Manny, Rickey Henderson), but not in hockey.
@TheWrage *comment section nods in agreement*
Good fuck em. I hope they come in last place for eternity. And kovy told Lou he was leaving for Russia before the 4th year of the contract. Lou should get credit for worst contract ever. 100 million for 3 years? And it stays on the books under new CBa rules.
@KevinDeLury flagged..... lmao
@nyr94 @shoot_the_goalie I agree. From a hockey standpoint, I take Crosby first in a heartbeat if he's ok health-wise. (and my current favorite player is Hank, so it wouldn't be easy) I would take Ovi too.
From a business standpoint, it would be even better for NYR cause I think Crosby and Ovi are more marketable than Hank.
