According to iSport.cz, a Jaromir Jagr/Rangers reunion could be in the works.
iSport says that the Rangers have the fiscal space to sign the UFA Jagr as they are $3M under the cap.
...apparently the guys over at iSport haven't been following the Rangers this offseason. While they're correct that the Rangers have $3M in cap space, they left out the fact that the Blueshirts have yet to re-sign Stepan and Zuccarello. And I'm not sure about you guys, but I think bringing Stepan back is a tad more important than a Jagr/Rangers reunion.
...Jagr is one of the biggest reasons the Rangers were able to climb out of the dark ages of the late 90s/early 2000s and I think he'd bring a nice veteran presence as well as some goal scoring to the Rangers, but I'm not ready for them to radically alter their roster to open up cap space and bring in a 41-year old former super star. That's the old Rangers way of doing things.
...i don't see this happening.
The article also mentions the Devils and Flyers as landing spots for Jagr.
Here's a Google translation of the article.
I'd Love to have Jagr back, very unlikely tho but we all know Sather.. If he doesn't sign with us he's going to the devils which is the more likely to happen.
Rangers division is now called: The Metropolitan division.
The NHL has released the names for the realigned divisions.
The Rangers will play in the Metropolitan Division. The Atlantic Division will still exist but will include the Bruins, Sabres, Red Wings, Panthers, Montreal, Senators, Tampa Bay and Toronto.
Goddamit... opener against Montreal... Thats a loss. What is it about Hank playing against that team.
If Jagr were smart, he would not sign with anyone right now, but keep in shape. Then around February, start approaching the teams that have a shot at the Cup and hook on with one of them. I just don't see how he makes it through a full season and still be effective.
All things considered, Jagr has played surprisingly well in his "old age." He is pretty banged up. Theoretically, I'm not against taking him on, but I'm not able to describe a scenario where it makes sense given our current situation. I believe he could help the team, but not if it means taking somebody's spot or screwing up our salary cap ... so, I guess that means it won't work.
Jagr apparently to the Flyers... he is not very active on Twitter and just changed his background to the Flyers logo and him in their jersey.
Ha! Way to go. You may be right. It's ready-made. I didn't even think of it. Could be. Good call.
@FREE LINDBERG The Gotham division would have been better!
and ending the season in the house of horrors.... Fuck. I hope that has no importance because we are 10 points clear of everyone
@Cup4NYR thats a rough start to the season but the end will make up for it. but i really hope that last game @mtl isnt going to be an important one
@gravey94 Great idea Gravy, He would lite it up at the end of the season and would be well rested for the playoffs. He could also sign with a contender and hopefully for him, he could win another cup. ( What a way to end his career).
Good thoughts, or maybe play the full season as a power play specialist, though you still have to roll 4 lines
that's a great idea!
Don't you worry. Stepan will be signed. That is definitely a priority for the team.
There's no room on the roster or the salary cap. He would have to be on the revolving door and be a healthy scratch on many nights. Just doesn't make any sense. They'll get Stepan signed but right now it's a stairing contest to see who blinks first. The fact that Stepan doesn't have Arbitrary rights is going to make this take longer than normal. Throw in the fact that Girioux, the closest comparison to Stepan. Just got a huge contract extension. The Rangers wanna get him locked up cheap and for 2 years but Steps agent wants more years. Being Stepan is 22 it would take too many years to buy UFA years from him. This is going to be a tricky, drawn out process. Likely goes to the end of August. I just hope he doesn't sign an offer sheet. The Rangers would match most anything and just dump salary accordingly to get under the Cap. With Asham and Powe clearing waivers the Rangers will have closer to 5 mil in space as most of their combined 2.066 cap hits will come off the books. That'll be once the season starts I believe.
@FREE LINDBERG Actually he's still in a Stars jersey. Jagr has always been a little nutty, I think he's doing this to throw people off.
btw, don't you worry your little head about Stepan. it's not even a "staring contest." it will be drawn out, but it will be done.
i sympathize, but the roster and cap are yet to be resolved. that is the simple truth. hope for the best
Actually I have a big Block head. Like a hammer but I hope you're right. That kid is going to be an 80 point center some day. His point totals would've been 75 in a full 82 games last year. He's a good Anerican kid and the NYR top Centerman at 23 years old and in his 4th season in the NHL. Of all the top Centerman in the NHL (there's 30 of them) he was 3rd in +/- in the league last year. Behind only Crosby and Toews. Really important player for them going forward.
I agree about Boyle. I think they can live without him but only because of all the Centerman the Rangers now have and the lack of depth they have on the right side. I think this kid Kristo can fill in while Callahan recovers but they may be smart to add a veteran RW. A guy that can put up 15-20 goals in a season. I don't know that Boyle will get that alone but otherwise he fills a few spots on the team. The PK and a defensive zone Faceoff man. He will likely be on the wing but he's that big guy you need in the circle for a big draw in the 3rd period.
