Why Torts Pulled Lundqvist

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

One of the stranger sights in the Rangers 6-3 loss to the Penguins was John Tortorella's early hook on Henrik Lundqvist. He explains his reasoning here (via NY Post)...

“I was not going to keep him in there. It wasn’t him. I wasn’t going to keep him in there with what was going on in front of him.”

...i bet Biron felt good about himself after hearing this. In all seriousness, I'm in total agreement with Torts on this one. Absolutely no reason to leave him in there. Get him some rest and start focusing on the Bruins.

Speaking of Wednesday game vs. Boston, Steve Zipay at Newsday says to expect Lundqvist right back in there...

"Henrik Lundqvist needs to/will start against the Bruins...My guess: He’ll also start in Philly, especially if he doesn’t secure a win vs. Bruins; in other words, No. 30 is in net until he has a W or two under the belt."

Zipay adds that Marty Biron will likely get his first start on Saturday against the Maple Leafs.

...with the Rangers already four points behind the Penguins, expect a ton of work for Lundqvist early this season. I really thought that Lundqvist would be the "X" factor for the Rangers while they worked through the expected rust. But not even his heroics have been able to save this team.

Who really thinks Carl hagelin is a top 6 forward? He looks lost out there and he is playing with the top talent. I thought even last year he was playing over his head and this year he looks even worse than last year. It's. shame kreider is in one hell of a slump. I do agree with whoever said mdz looks like a boy among men in the ice and Bickel getting caught flat footed was embarrassing he is a pylon. There is not much chemistry and flow to there game. There is a lot of rough edges with this team right now.

Torts should play Nash, McDonagh and Del Zotto extra until the rest of the team gets its game legs.Notice they have played ok? Its partly because they played full time overseas.Hags didn't really see much ice time overseas due to the injury so he doesn't count.Lundqvist and Biron can alternate if one of them shows rustiness.I say they lose 4 out of 5 and then play par b4 they go on a tear. Not worried about this balanced team.

This more cutting and pasting than a room full of first graders the day before Valentine's Day.

Don't get playing hank back to back, especially when we seem to own philly. I know they have to ride him, and want to get back in it quick, but we cant wear him down so early either.
