Torts Going to "Play the Hell Out of" Girardi & McDonagh

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Pat Leonard at the Daily News reports that John Tortorella plans on using Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh as his workhorses once again this season...

"We're gonna play the hell out of 'em."

...they've had a year and a half off so they should be rested. Having said that, a fully healthy Staal and hopefully more confidence in Bickel will help take some pressure off of them.

Meanwhile, with Brad Richards missing his third straight day of training camp with the flu, the lines looked like this...

Hagelin-Halpern-Nash
Gaborik-Stepan-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Kreider
Rupp-Asham

...assuming when Richards finally does come back, he'll slide into the top line and Halpern will move in between Rupp and Asham.

Don't you think that with all of the problems they had last season with the shortage of forwards at hand (and Tortorella's reluctance to play Avery) that they would carry an extra forward or two?

I just don't get it.

@Beckfan5 how perfectly would Avery compliment this lineup a la tikkanen?

@AnnoyingJoe I just saw Leino may be bought out. Would we take him at a HUGE discount on his current 4 mil contract?

i don't know... i have a feeling that we need to pick up one more forward. You can never have enough depth.
