Redden Bought Out By Rangers

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

The New York Rangers announced yesterday that they have bought out Wade Redden. The Rangers will still be charged Redden's $5.6 million cap hit this season.

Redden is now a UFA and can sign with any team.

...despite two years of misery it looks like Redden will land on his feet, He was a good soldier down in Hartford and made the best out of a bad situation. I'm sure most Rangers fans are happy it all worked out for him.

Because Redden showed such character being a good sport in Hartford, I want that much more for him to catch on with another team. He deserves it.

I was half expecting the fishsticks to claim him off waivers just to stick the Rangers with half his cap hit for 2 years.  They have the room, it's not like any big free agents want to sign there or anything!  Good luck to Redden, hope he can finish out his career with dignity.

@gravey94 I sort of feel bad for the guy. We gave an average player too much money. He was never going to be able to live up to the hype and I believe it caused his game to take a serious dive. It was way too much pressure for him. I think it's a similar situation with Staal, too much pressure for an average player. His contract is what? nearly 4M a year, that's crazy. As much as I love him he's another one that we need to think about getting some players for, if it's possible.

@BleedingBlue  -- I wonder about Staal. I haven't exactly witnessed him crumple under pressure. He was coming along nicely until his brother took him out. Torts still thinks he's an above average player, so I'm going to take his word over yours, but it's time for us to be convinced. He only just turned 26, so his best years should be coming up right about now. We should really see what he's made of over these next two seasons.

@BleedingBlue  @AG_Blue  -- good call on the contract. I agree that is written for the player they hope him to become. There are also comparable contracts around the league, however, there will probably not be quite as many under the new CBA and with the cap dropping.

@AG_Blue 4 million a year for a player we are still waiting to develop is a little deep. I absolutely love Staal I just think his pay should reflect his contract. He is only 26 but if we gave every potential player these deals we would be in serious trouble.

Hey guys, I been a long time reader of the blog, however, never made an account to make any comments on anything. I am glad to see that the Redden situation is finally being put to rest. With that said, Saturday can't come soon enough. LGR!
