#NYR Rangers have placed Wade Redden on waivers

If Redden clears at noon tomorrow, the Rangers would then buy him out and he will then become an UFA.
...and the Wade Redden error is officially over.
...i'd be shocked if he isn't signed by another team on the cheap. Would be a pretty solid 5th or 6th defenseman. Similar to Gomez, his contract was an anchor around his neck in New York. Rangers fans would have been more accepting of his play if he was being paid $2 million per, instead of $6.5 million.

Detroit, Dallas, Philly, Columbus, Florida all this team could use him. Whish him the best, he's a great pro.
Off subject but kinda not: when does a guy like Marc Staal become expendable? Next year, year after? I think he's the guy that we can get rid of possibly to an Edmonton and gets some real value for! LETS SHAKE IT UP!!!
So we want him to clear waivers, then we buy him out, then another team can sign him and all is happy, correct? What if another team claims him on waivers? Then are we not stuck for part of his salary for two more years?
@Skunkman Who's going to want him for $3M for 2 years when they can get him for a fraction of that?
the flyers fans are already talking about him. if he goes there you can bet he will try his hardest against us. not that im worried but jeeze could you imagine?
Does it matter? You could put Larry Robinson and Borje Salming in front of humongous big and it wouldn't matter. talk about an anchor around the neck.
Good luck to him. As much as we detest him for what we had to watch, any mortal would accept a $36M contract if offered. Glen Sather could very well have ruined his and gomezs careers by simply paying them too much and making them look terrible. But they are not terrible, they are average players making above average money. Between the pessimism from the fans and their own internal struggles knowing what their situation was, they probably performed even worse than they are capable just bc of all the head games they're also playing. Get them out of their contracts and I'm sure they can play NHl hockey again for the contracts a sane person gives out. Man Sather was really loco for a while.
A lot of your readers here wanted to Ship out MDZ because he had trouble defending. You really think they would be OK with paying $2M to a guy who puts up 14 points a year and can't defend the outside. Maybe at $500K a year...LOL! I hope he does catch on somewhere, he does seem like a good guy and just got caught up in a bad situation.
@gravey94 Yes, a terrible $6.5million per year situation. I would have jumped in front of that bullet if I could have.
@JamesU Yep, there's nothing more satisfying than spending your whole life getting to a point to only be told very publicly that you actually suck. Not faulting anyone but but is was a bad situation for all involved...except Ottawa!
If he gets signed by another team he will get his buyout salary and a new salary?, not a bad deal for him
I wish him well and thank him for his professionalism while with the Whale, helping many of the young D-men to grow. Hopefully, Sather has learned his lesson, too.
