Rangers to Buyout Gaborik?
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Arthur Staple at Newsday tweets that if the new CBA includes two buyouts the Rangers could use them on Wade Redden and Marian Gaborik.
Gaborik has another year on his contract at $7.5 million per, while Redden also has just one year left but at $6.5 million.
...if Redden's salary is going to count against the Rangers cap under a new CBA, he's an obvious choice, but I think Staple is way off on his Gaborik pick. I know he had major shoulder surgery but the last time I checked, he scored 41 goals last year. You also might remember a certain triple overtime winner in the playoffs. The guy, when healthy, can flat out score, so if they were to buy him out, who exactly are the Rangers replacing his scoring with?
...and in a complete oddity, since the 2004-05 lockout Gaborik tends to have exceptional seasons in odd numbered years, so he should be at his best for the 2013-14 season.

The guy has to be smoking something other than cigarettes. no way do you buy out your pure goal scorer who had a good year last season.
Buying out Gaborik would be worse then the signing of Gomez or Redden. You dn't buy out your only pure goal scorer on the team. I wonder what Artur Staple is smoking bu I'd like some of that myself.
Can we please cancel the rest of the season already? Wow really is the NHL media running out of things to write. Why yes the Rangers will buyout Gaborik after trading for Rick Nash to create a monster first line that makes them a legit cup contender. Call me when training camp begins in 2014
A direct quote from Mr. Staple: "Tough to drop him. But need to lock up McDonagh/Stepan/Kreider greater". I see where he's coming from- but 41 goals can be irreplaceable.
Redden(duh) and rupp. 1.5 mil for 4 minutes isn't cutting it. We only have like 2 years of gabby anyway
If you read the article this is pure speculation by a newsday writer a pretty dumb assumption
Devils advocate: the rangers get two buyouts to get under whatever the new cap is and still sign MDZ, and buying out Redden does nothing towards that goal because he never counted until now. So whether the cap drops from 70 to 65 or 60, how else do the ranger get there? Buyout Richards? Nash? Hank? No, you compare impact to salary, look at what single move can get you the most and impact you the least. Sather has always done what he needs to do, regardless of feelings, and unfortunately that could mean no more Gaborik. I don't like it, but we can't play short an entire offensive line or something. The only reason to keep Gaborik would be if the cap dropped in two increments in the next two seasons, and there was some other way to get under the first cap and then not resigning Gaborik got us under the second.
I dont believe that, they will buy out redden besides the point of getting nash was to now have another scorer besides gaborik
If they do this itd be a dumb move! I honestly think they should keep him! Having nash and gaborik are both proven goal scorers and losing Gaborik and what he brings to the team is too valuable to buy out! The fact that we need to sign other important guys i get that but Gaborik is to much of apart of the team! Plus its been great having him in NY! I vote to keep him and part ways with a young player that expects alot but doesnt produce ad much as Gaborik even though thatd also be hard to do
This is one of the dumbest things I've heard all lockout. And that's saying a lot cause this whole thing has been a farce.
Gabby wont get bought out. Redden is a sure buyout. They cant buy out DZ since he doesnt have a contract. Sauer might get bought out due to his injury. Dont want Sauer gone but it could happen.
I heard this a couple days ago, I thought this was retarded, hes a scorer, we go back to being a good, not great team, without another forward like him that pots goals like him.
