Kevin DeLury:
Holy crap. I go and hang out with my family for a few hours and everything falls apart. This really is a blow to the Rangers. The Arnott signing would have been a tremendous move for this team. He would have provided veteran leadership and some much needed help on the power play and faceoffs. Obviously, the Rangers are interested in upgrading their lineup, but I'm not sure there's another Arnott-type player available right now.
Update, Jan 27th 7:25 PM:
#NYR Tentative one-year deal between Rangers and Jason Arnott is OFF, source tells ESPN NY. Was not cleared by NYR team doctors

Well, there goes that idea...

Arnott and NYR agree to contract. 1 year. Cap hit around $1.6 -$1.7.Contract being finalized now. Arnott en route to NYC.

Arnott last season in 72 games with St. Louis was 17-17-34.
Badly needed depth signing for a team getting no secondary scoring. Question is, who sits? Halpern who can't win a faceoff, or someone like Rupp who suddenly can't win scraps?

Jesus Christ guys, 5 games and already we've got ridiculous trade proposals floating around? Stop being such typical NYR fans and have some gosh darned patience. Wait until this team gets their legs under them before we start demanding roster changes....
Could we trade for Brandon Dubinsky? Do you think Howson will remember we traded him to them? Sather can double Jedi him.
I've got a feeling a roster move is on the way if the Rangers continue to flounder... no way this year the Rangers stand pat at the trade deadline.
@thenyrblogneill Totally agree. With this falling apart, do you see them making another move soon? I'm not even sure who's out there. Dom Moore, Sykora, Sturm or how about our old friend Dvorak.
@KevinDeLury @thenyrblogneill I'd take Moore or Sturm. Preferably Moore.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG @KevinDeLury after watching the wild-blues game, what about bringing back matt cullen?? 3.5 cap hit, but expires after this season... not sure what NYR would send the other way besides halpern
@KevinDeLury @thenyrblogneill Holy crap, Batman - you guys really need to relax...Dom Moore, Sykora, really? I would take Gomez back first! If we never even knew about the possibility of the Arnott signing, there would be none of this talk...continue to flounder? trade deadline? How about we get out of January first. Sheeesh.
@smoothyv @KevinDeLury 48 game season, the deadline will be here before you know it. Under normal circumstances no rational fan would be panicking. I've stated countless times, I've been giving the Rangers a 5 game leeway to get their legs back under them. If they continue to play .500 hockey, through february, you've gotta shake up the roster. I'm thinking the AHL route maybe the way to go for now, but it wouldn't surprise me if something was done much sooner than people realize.
How about trading Halpern for a 3rd pair d man that Torts actually trusts? Eminger played 4 minutes last night. Meanwhile Rupp and Asham each played 2, and Halpern played 5. And Maybe Arnott and Ferriero could be the start of a 4th line that Torts will actually give 10 minutes to.
38 and he has a good solid year left in him , love this signing as a big body in front is what worked tonight more of it cant hurt
Ferriero played pretty good rather him then mitchell so he blocked a shot with his face this guy got speed halpern Rupp and bickel can sit kreider needs more time in the ahl maybe next year
I thought Ferriero played well tonight. Good speed, strong on the puck... Will only get better.
If Arnott plays, we have a revolving bunch of guys that sit, Rupp, Asham, Halpern, Bickel, Ferriero, Kreider, all these guys are all gonna sit ... some of them will see AHL time. The idea is that all these guys can be relied upon for something. Arnott, for that money, is going to be relied upon.
Like the singing... good depth, big body, can score... 17 goals last year? ill take that...
I think it's a great signing, good faceoff guy (badly needed), added grit and size. Hopefully can help chew up some more minutes so they can maybe roll three lines instead. Lord knows line1 is out every other shift
Rupp suddenly starting to lose fights? The guy gets pummeled more than Glass Joe from Mike Tyson's Punchout!
Nash - Richards - Gaborik
Pyatt - Stepan - Callahan
Hagelin - Arnott - Boyle
Asham - Halpern - Rupp
@cb1 I think if Kreider is healthy you put him on the 3rd line, move Bloyle to the 4th line and bump Rupp.
@thenyrblogneill @AnnoyingJoe and i believe it was rupp that set up that scoring chance...They played together in pittsburgh and produced at least a little offense when given the opportunity...i watched a lot of asham last year because i am in the pittsburgh area and he can play a little and has a pretty decent slap shot
@thenyrblogneill @AnnoyingJoe they look irrelevant because they got 2 mins of ice time. Torts is gonna need to use his 4 line guys more with this condensed schedule. Asham had a good scoring chance when he was actually out there. I think we need to see them play more before we decide their fates
@AnnoyingJoe asham is more irrelevant than jody shelley is, personally i think a trade might be coming
