Rangers Place Kolarik Others on Waivers (Updated)

Update, 2:21 p.m.:
TheNYRBlog's Neill Fowler gives some insight on why these guys, including Kolarik, were put on waivers...

"Those 8 guys were"assigned" to Connecticut on 9/14/12, since they're all on NHL contracts, they have to clear waivers to continue playing now that the NHL is back."

Original Post:

Kolarik leads Whale with 15 goals and tied for team lead in points with 29.

...scratching my head at Kolarik being on that list. I was originally surprised when he wasn't in training camp as he's lit it up in Hartford this season and could provide some much needed depth. I would think there's a very good chance he gets claimed by someone. Guess he's not in the Rangers plan for the future.

I'm sure there must be a handshake agreement between the gms to not claim during this period, I'd be really surprised to see claims every team is making these moves

Real confusing to why they waive him... But then i looked at the depth chart and with all the guys we have with such talent as bad as itll sound we dont really need him and he wont het a chance for awhile

i said the same thing on twitter, they were never officially sent down by going through the waivers process, same thing would've happened if this were a normal preseason

@thenyrblogneill That makes a little more sense but the situation sucks. Assuming they can play tonight though....at least I hope or the Whale are going to have quite a short bench lol

@KevinDeLury yea of course, the rangers weren't the only team to do this, but I would be surprised if kolarik clears

This makes no sense to me cause the Whale could have no team by the weekend. The Rangers do realize re-entry waivers were eliminated, right? There has to be something we're missing cause I don't get it.

As for Kolarik, he is playing well but I'm not sure defensively how he's been. But Brandon Segal and Tommy Grant have been playing well too so I just don't get any of this.

I attended the Whale game in Hershey on Saturday night. Kolarik was one of the better players out of a bad bunch that night.
