Rangers/Del Zotto Not Close on Money
According to Rick Carpiniello at the Rangers Report the Rangers and Michael Del Zotto are not close on money in their contract negotiations.
Del Zotto, an RFA, is apparently looking for a deal worth north of $3 million per year, while the Rangers reportedly offered Del Zotto a two or three year deal at upward of $2.5 million per before the lockout.
...Del Zotto has got to be kidding me playing hardball. He doesn't know what he's getting himself into. Sather and the Rangers have all the leverage, so Del Zotto can either lower his demands or go find another team to play for. One year deal might be the answer.

i dunno .... the kid does have alot of skill ... i was choked when i first read this but when i think about it i'd give del zotto a 2 yr deals at 6 mill, the guy will never be that great at Defence and he's gonna give the puck away a bunch in the season but the kid had 41 pts last year, finished 18th in scoring for dmen ... ahead of guys like seabrook, kieth, lidstrom, doughty and subban ... i know those guys do alot of defensive work but they also make between 6-7 mill a season so if delzotto wants 3 a year ... well he deserves at least that
He's crazy for not taking a 3-year deal, even at 1.75-2 mil per. A one year deal would be incredibly risky. He's always one mis-step from Torts' chateau bow-wow. The sight of him sitting on the end of the bench would not make for a good sales pitch to other teams next year.
Trade his ass. I guess he didnt learn anything from the lockout. Trade him to a shitty team too.
As we all said at the end of last season- if not for Hank - del turnovers defensive stats would be miserable! A deal will likely get done but if it doesn't I expect Philly to take a run at him. That would be fun - punishing him in front of "the universe" or whomever they have in net this year!

@ATCRyan while agree the price is too high at 3 mil but Erixon even with his speed - is just too small. Does anyone remember how he got completely pushed around in the preseason last year?

@ATCRyan ^^ Nailed it. Was so bummed it was Erixon and not MDZ. Probably because they knew he was about to be an RFA. I can't fathom that we even offered him 2.5 per -- and the fact that he turned that down? Mind blowing. I will be depressed if and when a long term deal is worked out. Take a hike, guy
I take these reports with a grain of salt. We have no idea what Del Zotto is asking for or what the Rangers are offering him. Yes, it looks like DZ is asking for more than he's worth but how do we know the Rangers aren't offering $1-1.5 mil per year? I'd love to get him at that but no way he signs for that. I say we just wait and see what happens with him. If he didn't plan to stick around, he wouldn't be skating with the team right now.

@KevinDeLury "Rangers were said..." i.e. it was rumored. We'll never know for sure if it was true. That's all I was saying. But yeah, that sounds about right so maybe I just can't believe he would be asking for that much more than that lol.
Del Zotto for 3 mil? Screw that trade him! He's worth about 2mil. Get a nice pick or prospect for him if he holds out.
