Penguins 3, Rangers 0
Written by Kevin DeLury on .

The New York Rangers (3-4-0) lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins (4-3-0) by the score of 3-0, tonight. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
...tonight's Rangers game was sponsored by the number zero. As in zero passion, zero energy, zero discipline and zero offensive pressure. If you were able to sit through that one, consider yourself a true Rangers fan.
...you'd think the Rangers would be used to playing without Callahan by now, but without him in the line-up absolutely no one stepped up to provide any kind of leadership or spark.
...i tell you what, that list of old, broken down free agents is looking mighty good after this one. Rangers can't continue with this abomination of a line-up. Any chance they can get Arnott some of Ray Lewis' deer antler spray so he can pass the god damn physical. And while you're at it get Kreider some to.
...so help me God if Mike Sullivan is in charge of line changes.
...i guess now is as good of a time as any to ask this question, is it time to get concerned about Nash not scoring?
...remember last year when Richards was able to hide his lack of scoring behind a few clutch goals? No where to hide so far this season.
...i have no idea how Penguins fans can hold their noses and cheer for Crosby. He's such a whiny bitch. It pisses me off as a hockey fan because he's too good of a player to pull that garbage on the ice.
...ditto for Malkin with his dirty play out there.
...hey, at least Stralman had a nice game.
...lines looked much more balanced after Torts broke up "Welcome to the Jungle" line. Not that it mattered.
...Lundqvist back on top of his game, but might be time for Biron to get a start just to shake this team up.
...officially time for Stepan to start proving that he can be a productive NHL player. I did like his six shots on goal tonight, but he's got to start burying his chances.
...would love to see the Rangers shot chart for this game. I doubt there was more than two shots below the faceoff circle.
...wonder if Vokoun had the flu, because no Rangers player sniffed the front of the net tonight.
...maybe Prust would have been worth the money.
....running out of adjectives to describe how terrible the Rangers power play is.
...let me just get this out of my system: Sean Avery, Sean Avery, Sean Avery, Sean Avery, Sean Avery, Sean Avery.
...having said all that, and I said a lot, the Rangers are still only one game below .500 with 41 games left. Kreider will be back next week and Callahan the week after, so plenty of time to turn this around. But man this team needs to be shaken up a bit. Scary how lethargic they are.
...off tomorrow then off to Tampa Saturday night.
Game lowlights...

simply said: the f**kin rangers need to get their heads out of their asses right from the drop of the puck. how many times, this and last year have they fallen behind right off the bat. sometimes they act like they're still out for their pre-game skate. no excuses, go out and play hockey !!!!
I'm a Penguins fan Crosby is whiny, but he's good. He stays on team and I root for him.
Lundqvist is good too...if you don't want him we'll take him. Nash is stupid though.
Rags suck without Callahan. At least the flyers are worse off.
Agreed 1000%. In your face ny ranger hockey has yet to emerge. Maybe they're still on strike. And ps.....Crosby is a whiny little bitch. Time to change the potvein sucks chant to Crosby sucks. He's clearly Bettmans poster boy and referee protected.
If the Rangers play like they did last night, it is a real possibility that they will lose the next 3 games.(Tampa, Islanders and Devils and that will really be painful.) A major shakup of the linup is needed one is to start Biron next game. Lundqvist is good but very spotty, nothing like last year. That first goal last night was inexcusable. It set the tone for the whole game.
I forgot Crosby is the only captain in the league who isn't allowed to talk to the officials. You'd cheer for him if he played for the Rangers
@malkincookies really? I saw one of your buddies or maybe it was you calling Hank "Stunnedqvist" last night. You wouldn't take Hank? First off its a pretty dumb pun secondly it makes no sense! He's the most feared and respected goalie in the league. Throw out the last 7 games and you have one of the steadiest goalies in almost the last decade. You sound more stupid with each post.
@malkincookies whiny little toilet log - always crying and flopping in close games. POS! can't believe he's supposed to be the face of the league. complete disgrace
@malkincookies You're seriously going to defend him complaining about that hit by Del Zotto? Please don't post here b/c you've lost all credibility.
@KevinDeLury @malkincookies Crosby should be playing in a womens leage he'd fit rite in the little Bitch!
@scrangersfan @malkincookies @KevinDeLury oh my goodness! I've tried to stay above this childishness but I can't anymore. I'm not even speaking as a Rangers fan now, just a hockey fan. Are Penguins fans even aware of teams outside of there own? Do you watch other games, or just whoever the Pens are playing? It's like listening to someone who is missing one tooth tell someone who is missing 2 teeth that they have a jacked up smile. Who were you fans of before you decided to jump on the Pens bandwagon? You guys sound like losers. Act like you've won a game before. You're pathetic!
@scrangersfan @KevinDeLury You take after the organization don't you, with your clearly sexist attitude towards women
wahhhhhhhhhhhh imma cry about crysby....crysby is such a bitch imma bitch about him
When does Nash finally eat himself to death?
I think what this team needs right now is not another UFA coming in or scrambling the lines again. We need to find that identity again and make the players we already have live up to it. Times like these you gotta miss Dubi and Prust. They had the ability (at least sometimes) to lead by example, like Cally. Can't see who else in this team could step up and do that.
Is it me or does this new guy ferreiro or wutev absolutly terrible... Hes had so many chances to score and hasnt even shot... No one shoots the puck ever! I understand u want an open lane but my god they are terrible! Start turning down pp's and play 5 on 5! Our PP is like the philly goalie curse itlll never be good enough! Absolutly pathetic they better go out tomo night and play like its game 7 of the finals cus they look so bad for having suck a superstar team and callahan being out has nothing at all to do with how bad they played... That being said LGR!!!
They look like the just want to survive the game. This team isn't built to just survive. START DOMINATING OR YOU WILL LOOK BACK AND REALIZE YOU WASTED A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY!!! This is way more frustrating than watch a bad hockey team.
I know he's not the biggest problem right now, but Lundqvist doesn't look great to me so far. The first goal was from a terrible angle, and letting one in that early really sets the tone for the game. He hasn't cost his team the game at all this season, but he hasn't stolen one either. Like the rest of the team, he needs to step it up.
@cb1 so which game could be have stolen? The Rangers scored 1 goal or less in 3 of the 4 losses and Hank was pulled in the other one because his team left him out to dry. I'm sure Hank would say he's not at his best, but he is by far the least thing this team needs to worry about right now
Same old story with this team: NO SCORING! It's a curse. We are gonna get murdered in Tampa this Saturday...
A win and all was forgiven for the bad start...a loss and it's time to panic?? Terrible game, move on to Saturday.
@gravey94 The next three games will define this team. Tampa is finally playing to their potential and we know that the Isles and Devills will be up to the task.Playing the Rangers is their Stanley cup.
I don't see what Stepan brings to this team. He is totally invisible. Which he was sent to Columbus instead of Dubinsky.
@edvinlofgren Not completely diagreeing, but I thought Stepan was a lot more noticable than Richards. Stepan had the puck on his stick a lot last night, he just didn't do a tom with it. When he gets close he thinks pass too much, and takes all his shots from the blue line.
I think your a bit too hard on the top line right now. They're getting matched up constantly by the top defensive pair because teams can throw their 3rd line defensive pair at the rest of our lineup and shut them down no problem. If we ever settle our depth issue (we need a 2nd line that doesnt put up 4th line stats like nobody's biz), we should get great production out of them. We need kreider to step it up big time cause hes the only other forward on our team that can create space and be a real game changer
@BrianMineola --- our top line got shut down by their 4th line ... if rookie Kreider is "the only other forward on our team that can create space and be a real game changer" then this team isn't going anywhere ... luckily that's not true anyway, but if we leaned on the rookie that hard he would buckle under the pressure and it could keep him from ever reaching his potential
I brought more passion and intensity and offensive pressure than the Rangers combined at C League Pick up tonight.
It was horrible, but it was only one game. We did just win two in a row. Hell, if we managed to win two then lose one the rest of the way, we ~might~ squeak in to the playoffs, assuming some of those losses are OT. But, we all know we're just too good not to string together bigger winning streaks. Just sit tight, we've got this.
Based on Tort's being late for the Post Game Presser. he must have ripped them all a new arsehole.
One major thing I noticed in this game is that the Pens were almost as bad as the Rangers, and that's BAD. They should fix it.
If you have a good sense of humor play the Benny Hill theme song every time the Rangers get a power play. It's perfect.
I said this as soon as the lockout ended to my buddies and I will say it now. The Rangers need AT LEAST 10 games to get started, maybe 15 or 20. (Especially with no training camp) Teams like Boston and Pittsburgh (who are both solid teams) made no significant roster changes. We added a HUGE physical scorer to our top line and also turned over about 5 players besides that, ALL FORWARDS. Prust, Duby, Arty, Feds, Avery all gone. We add Nash, Halpern, Ferriero, Asham, Pyatt.... OF COURSE WE ARE GOING TO HAVE ISSUES. ESPECIALLY AGAINST TEAMS WHO WERE ALREADY GOOD AND MADE NO CHANGES. STOP FREAKING THE FUCK OUT.
The only concern is mild lethargy, other than that, shut the fuck up.
End Rant
@brian2686 @KevinDeLury Not sure about Pitt, but Boston also had a ton of guys play overseas. Ithink when you combine the two aspects (staying fresh/sharp + nothing new to learn upon return) its no wonder some of these teams jumped out of the gates.
@ChrisP Except thats not in 227. We were on the other side of the ice. This is behind the bench side. Multiple fights I guess.
@KevinDeLury Yeah that's what I'm hoping for. The guys looked like they were really swinging but I only got a few random snap shots. One of the guys down close had a full on video camera.
