According to Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun, the Rangers could be one of as many as four teams to 'make a push' at acquiring Habs' defenseman PK Subban. Garrioch states that Detroit, Philadelphia and Winnipeg could also be interested in acquiring the young defenseman's services if/when Habs GM Marc Bergevin makes him available. Subban reportedly is looking for a 5 year contract, north of $4 million per year.
Not to discredit Garrioch or his "sources", but I don't think the Rangers are serious players to acquire Subban's services for a variety of reasons with next year's reduction in salary cap space and the Rangers' need to sign their own RFA's (McDonagh, Hagelin, Stepan) as primary factors.
Sounds to me if Subban is put on the trade block, the Rangers will be involved only to drive the price up on Philly who are far more desparate to obtain a player like Subban than the Rangers are.

If it would take Stepan to get Subban I would do that in what you all call "A NEW YORK Minute!" What Subban would give us on the Blue line is what we are missing on this team!
Other than his offense, I have no interest in him. I think he's kind of a jerk. He's not a Torts kind of player.
If Arnott passes his physical, that might make Stepan a trading chip. Step may have maxed out his upside as he's shown no signifdicant improvement since his rookie year. That said, Subban on Broadway is not a good fit for either player or team. His presence would diminish Del Zotto's value as they have similar skill sets. And why would Subban not want to go where he can be a first pair Dman as well as qb on the pp.
What about the Islanders? I'd be surprised to see that they aren't in the mix considering that they have the cap space and are desperate on D.
PK 160 games, 21 goals, 55 assists, 76 points, plus 2, 245 penalty minutes Staal 372 games, 23 goals, 66 assists, 89 points, plus 9, 220 penalty minutes
@Skunkman we're missing an overrated, greedy, pain-in-the-ass?
@shishya100 that's absurd no way Steph is traded ... I don't think out system is stockpiled with centers when Richards retires Steph is our only center ...
@shishya100 no offense, but there isn't a chance stepan is going to be traded solely because arnott signed on as a 1 year rental. you have to remember stepan is only 22 and hasn't come remotely close to hitting his full potential
@shishya100 you're nuts if you think the acquisition of Arnott has made Stepan somehow expendable. Maxed out his upside? You realize he's 22 right?
@Beckfan5 I'm sure he'd love that. But if they are smart (which is saying a lot) they should be content stockpiling picks until they move to Brooklyn where they will be a more attractive destination than they are now.
@cb1 Call him what you want, but he is one of the very few on that team that I want to see knocked on their ass when we play them and that is why I would not mind seeing him in Ranger Blue! Now can we pay him what he wants? I doubt it.
