No Word on Kreider

Last night Chris Kreider took a vicious hit from Brooks Orpik in the closing minute of the game. Here's the latest on his status...
Torts says he has no update on @chriskreider after being on receiving end of hard hit from Brooks Orpik...calls hit "clean"

Here's video of the hit...
...that's a big, CLEAN open ice hit. It looked like Kreider braced himself and didn't take a blow to the head, so I'm hoping no concussion. Although, he could have still gotten one from possible wiplash.
...while the hit was clean, you've got to be concerned that no Rangers stuck up for Kreider. No doubt if guys like Prust, Dubinsky and dare I say Avery were still on the team they would have gone after Orpik. While I enjoyed Asham's opening faceoff fight, he's got to find away to get out there and stick up for his young teammate. I'm a bit worried that the Rangers might have lost too much of their guts this offseason.
...don't like the fact that Kreider was unavailable to the media after the game.

I read that Kreider was practicing with a regular practice jersey on. Good news!
I know goalies fall into a different category, and it was a slightly different scenario, I just preferred the way McDonagh stood up to Lucic on Saturday when Lucic sprayed Lundquist, to seeing our star rookie laying on the ice and his linemates just kind of drifting around.
Gotta disagree with you, Kevin. Can't go after everyone who throws a clean hit on a Ranger. This will maybe remind Kreider to skate with his head up.
You're fired James. lol. Can't let your young stud player take a hit like that with 30 seconds to go in a blowout without retribution.
@KevinDeLury Payback is a Bitch but Revenge is a MotherFucker! Next game in BirdLand we will see Asham or @rupper17 take OrShits head off. Orpick will pay dearly or Tort's will have them bag skate the next day.
As far as the hit, it was perfectly clean so I'm not surprised that no one stood up for him. Had there been any question whatsoever, Asham would have been out there.
Holy shit everybody! Whatever will we do? We're 0-2!! Our season is over!! Oh wait.... We lost to two of the best teams in our conference! Chill the hell out! Didn't win until our fourth game last year. RELAX!!!!!!
Think the contact was to his jaw as that was what he seemed to be favoring as he went off the ice. As for no one standing up for him - what did you want them to do? There was 30 seconds left in what was basically a blow out game. If the Rangers started a fight there, suspensions and fines would've been automatic. In my opinion, doing something there would've been the dumbest thing they did all night...and that's saying something!
From Katie Strang at ESPN:
Tortorella didn't even blast Brooks Orpik for his open-ice check on Chris Kreider that left the rookie wobbly with time winding down in regulation. Instead, he endorsed the hit as clean and seemed to covet more edge and snarl from his own team.
"That's a big problem with our club right now," he said. "Maybe we need to get whacked around a little bit more to wake us up."
I think there are a lot of factors why no one went after Orpik:
1. Absolutely clean hit, Kreider's head was down skating through the middle of the ice
2. It was the last minute of a lopsided, embarrassing effort
3. Kreider is a rookie, Orpik is a vet known for playing a tough, clean game
That being said, I think someone at least needed to get in his face a little.
Prust meant more to this team than people like to admit, sometimes heart is difficult to replace
What a sh*t show. Lets hope they've gotten the lead out and get it together for Wednesday. No disrespect but Broke my heart to
Torts - sucks, henrik - great but outside of last season prone to extended slumps and has yet to prove self in playoffs, Richards - star, Gabby -star, Nash - superstar, Cally - above average, Stephan - fringe second line player, Kreider - unproven, Boyle - sucks, Asham - role player, Rupp - sucks, Halpen - role player, Hagelin - unproven, Pyatt - role player, McDonough - stud, Girardi - above average, Staal - overrated, delzotto - mistake prone, stralman - 7 th dman on good team, Bickel - AHL. So a flawed roster that Torts wastes the few offensive weapons he has by trying to make team shot blocking grinders.
Kinda game where we could've used Dubi's grit, prusters Pk and fists, But it's only game 2. And Nash was a beast impressed so far. And I was someone that did not wanna make the trade for Nash... Glad to see he is gonna make me eat my words. LGR!!! Bring on the next game.
It may have been a clean hit but you can't let Kreider get hit like that & not do anything. Next time they meet Asham, Rupp or Bickel need to lay a big (clean) hit on Orpik just to let him know!
After watching the slowmo I could see how he could have just had the wind knocked out of him? Hoping that's the extent of it.
Kreider no doubt has learned to keep his head up now....still there was no reason for orpik to make that hit at the end of a game and win for his team, BUT, he does have a reputation doesen't he!!!! as for Mcillrath, I never liked that pick at all and feel he's gunna be a bust, and You folks don't wanna look back at the players we could have selected.
Asham shpuld of simply been put out there... The guy played awesome last night but he cnt do much from the bench, he was flying and hitting and fightin out there... If you include the entire game he was top 3 if not 1 best player last night... Deserves the time and i used ro hate the guy but hes won me over already! Get him out there more and hed of killed orpik
These two teams play next Thursday night. I'm not sure who else was on the ice at the time but I think Orpik will hear from our guys next week. This will not be forgotten. But with 30 seconds left in the game I'm not sure Orpik even stayed on the ice after the hit.
being it a clean hit...why would anybody stand up for him? hits are part of the game. Now if it was a dirty hit...that's when retalliation would neccassary.
Avery? Please. We should have kept Prust. Besides his obvious toughness, he was good on the PK unit.
While trying to wait a few games into the season before passing too much judgement on this group, I'm with you on the concern about guts. Boyle was out there, and as much as he's terrible at dropping the gloves, he used to always at least get in a guys face. I think Prust really rubbed off on him, and I'm afraid Boyle will be invisible this season.
It was nice to see Rick Nash throwing the body around a little bit last night. Someone needs to kick him in the nuts before each game and get him a little pissed off. But I don't know that I like that in every interview he talks about how much the guys "like" each other. "Like" means they'll go get a beer together. "Care" is what this team did last year. They battled for each other, they picked each other up, and they challenged each other. I'm not seeing that yet.
@johnnyb3910 I like what you're saying, but I don't know how much you can care about someone you've really only known for a week and a half. It will happen. We will make the playoffs. THEN they will have to prove what they got in the tank.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG @johnnyb3910 Agreed, but that was a good opportunity for a "core" guy like Boyle to show the new guys how things work in NY.
@johnnyb3910 absolutly! However I've always been disappointed in Boyles toughness for how big he is. But ya he should have atleast made it look good.
I'm not so concerned that he wasn't available. The hit happened in the closing minutes and with the concussion awareness in the league now he probably had to go through a battery of exams that take a considerable amour of time. If there's no update today or tomorrow...then I'll be worried.
