Gilroy on D; Bickel at F; Cally & Kreider Talk Injuries

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Matt Gilroy will make his 2013 season debut on the final defensive pair with Anton Stralman tonight vs. the Penguins. This move means that Stu Bickel will be moved up to play on the fourth line and Steve Eminger will again be a healthy scratch.

...welp, had to figure Gilroy would get a shot eventually and with the high scoring Pens in town it doesn't hurt to have a little more offense in the line-up. Especially when your forwards include Rupp, Asham and Bickel.

Meanwhile, Ryan Callahan addressed his shoulder injury...

...man, you can just tell how relieved he is by this video.

Finally, Gross spoke with Chris Kreider about how his foot injury is progressing...

“I couldn’t tell you, I have to talk to the training staff and figure out where I am. Yesterday was light (skating), today was a little harder. We’ll see how it feels tomorrow. It’s a day to day thing. It’s hard to judge on one skate. It’s important to see how it feels tomorrow. It felt OK (today). It wasn’t a full skate. it was a conditioning skate with stops and starts so it’s hard to judge. I really didn’t anticipate skating in a certain fashion. I was told to do something and I did it. I showed up and did what I was told. I can’t give you guys a lot because I have to see how it feels tomorrow.”

...geez, thanks for the update, Chris. lol

...good to see him be able to skate a little harder today. Should be on schedule to return next week. I hope.

What is Tors' beef with Eminger? Dude is a solid D Man. Clearly he has a man crush on Bickel. I don't get. Guess that's why I'm not an NHL coach...

@Iron Mike  -- agreed ... i'm all for Gilroy getting a chance, but is he going to be better than Eminger on D?

@AG_Blue Yeah I like Gilroy as well. Wasn't he a natural forward to begin with?? I'll take him  and Eminger over Bickel. He's a good fighter, that's about it.

Yeah, it makes sense to have Steve Eminger sit out. After all, next to MDZ, I think he is the only D-man with a positive +/- figure.

this is great news from Callahan.  the strength of his deltoids, rotator cuff and surrounding muscles will really help speed his recovery and these guys are in great shape. Hope it doesn't happen again this season

Do you think Torts Tanya Hardinged his leg just so he couldn't play?

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG  -- yeah, a little ...  i mean, it's gives the kid a little respite from the pressure during which he can still get some coaching and learn the systems while he works out ...
