The New York Rangers (1-3-0) lost to the Philadelphia Flyers (1-3-0) by the score of 2-1, tonight. For a box score go to Yahoo! Sports.
...Serenity now, serenity now, serenity now, serenity now, serenity now, SERENITY NOW!!!!!
...ok, now that I've gotten that out of the way, what the eff is wrong with this team? No passion, no intensity, no resiliency. Where's the battle level? This is beyond silly mistakes being made because of rust. Remember last year when this team did things the "right way?"
...when you can't beat the Flyers "JV" squad, who shockingly came out with no urgency, you know you have issues. BTW, that was the stalest Rangers/Flyers game in years.
...you know what might help this team? Scoring on a 5-on-3. Wait, the Rangers would actually need someone with a halfway decent point shot to do that.
...didn't think it was possible for a defenseman and power play point man to play almost 24 minutes and not register a shot on goal. I'm looking at you Mr. Del Zotto.
...Tortorella teams are known for being in superior shape. Could it be that the lack of a training camp has severely hampered the players ability to succeed in his high intensity system?
...guess Gabby-Richards-Nash blew their load last night. Combined one point and three shots on goal.
...at least this Taylor Pyatt guy seems to be working out.
...i know, no training camp, blah, blah blah. Stop giving the puck away in the defensive zone!
...Bickel gets a one-week pass from all criticism on this blog for sticking up for Halpern and then dropping Tom "Fantasy Camp" Sestito.
...got to love the Rangers new faceoff specialist Halpern stapled to the bench in the final minute as Richards loses faceoff after faceoff.
...is it me or is McDonagh a little off to start the season?
...while he's not getting much ice time, Eminger's been real solid. Would like to see him get more minutes to take pressure off Girardi & McD.
...did the Rangers really only score one goal on "The Universe?"
...wonder what Kreider learned up in the press box tonight, you know, other than it's painful to watch this team right now.
...thought Lundqvist had problems with rebound control tonight. Was amazing other than that though.
...having said all that, it's still just four games. Rangers started slow last season and won the Division. Although, not sure Torts will be bringing back Sean Avery to turn things around again.
...off tomorrow then Maple Leafs at MSG on Saturday.

Its almost comical how some feel that others are ready to jump off the bridge after 4 games. I personally feel that watching the Rangers on offense has become shall we say predictable. We have world class scorers who need the puck to score...the offense that this coaching staff seems to run????????? Sorry don't get it....... Defense is.stressed first but you have to score.goals to win.too! There is no excuse at all for not shooting the puck with a.5 on 3 advantage! None......
Maybe they r just tired of torts bullshit. And giving up there bodies all game to blocking shots
Prust me, i didn't think he was worth 3 mil before but i'm thinking he might be worth it now !! they just don't have the overall intensity they need to win games like that. once again not getting konopka hurt them too.
Watch the game last night. PP Sucks. Even the worst team in the league has a better PP than us. Also Crossman hit Gabby, Again nobody went after him durning the game. If that was Pitt,Wash,Boston/senators you know somebody would've went after him durning the game. To me there is no toughness on this team and no true grit.
Man, I love NY fans! There is no in between, it's either total elation or complete meltdown. A week ago, everyone was talking Stanley Cup, now we need to completely re-vamp the team because they had a bad start to the season. They started last year at 3-6 before ripping off like 7 or 8 wins in a row. They'll work through it and in a week everyone will be back to talking about whether or not they'll get the 1 or 4 seed in the playoffs.
I expected a lot worse from your recap lol! As for McDonagh being off, I hate to say this (and by no means am I giving him an excuse) but he supposedly got banged up in Europe. Maybe he isn't 100%? Cause I agree something seems off. As for Halpern, have you seen his faceoff numbers this year? He would've done the same thing Richards was doing in that last minute.
maybe they're over-thinking the PP, working up schemes and set plays. Why not let the talent be the talent? you have 3 F's that are somewhere among the top 20-25 in the world, let them just go at it?
idk... whatever happens, they'd better get it screwed on right quick cuz this team isn't going to get enough scoring from lines 2-4 to survive long w/o an effective PP. It's that simple.
Maybe next year we'll make the playoffs. Thay're not going to sneek up on other teams this year. Hope Lundqvist will bolt when he's contract expire. He deserve better then to spend any more time with this bunch of loosers. ( 2 cups in 73 years! what a storied franchise this is. L.M.F.S.O.)
@scrangersfan are you sure you're not some kind of Islanders fan with that last comment - really - FU
@chrisdub I'm a blue bleeding Rangers fan since '64. Too many disappoinments durinf the 47 years. You'll feel the same if you root for them for as long as I have.
P.S. Your last comment is uncalled for but what the hell! FU too.
@scrangersfan @chrisdub I've been going to the garden since the days of brad park rod Gilbert and the original GAG line. I was there when the bruins jumped into the stands and when Eddie returned to the garden as a red wing so I know all about being a true blue fan and to me that means not calling my team a bunch of losers 4 games into a shortened season
Who cares if you have been rooting 100 years, already expecting to be disappointed?? Why even bother
tried to sleep off my anger but it didnt work. I need to vent to my fellow blueshirt fans. Please some one help me. 20 years of futility on the power play. Players change, coaches change, systems change and the power play remains the same. pass.pass.pass.pass.pass.steal.dump.repeat. Its 5 guys on 3 for god's sake. Just put the puck on net! They have 2 less guys to clear it out and it actually makes them move out of their pyramid in front of the net. How can they not see this. How does Torts not insist on it. We all know the definition of insanity...but screw it let's keep doing the thing over and over again and see how it goes. I'm so sick of this power play costing us games, costing us series, costing us seasons. There is way too much talent and potential on this team to waste it by being stubborn morons with the man advantage (or 2). I know the team will play better and get their wins. It's too early to panic still, but this power play or lack there of will keep us from getting to where we all want to be in June.
@JoeStizzy did you watch the Rangers under Renny with Jagr and Shanny on the PP. it was good then and it was good in 94 - other than that you're right but it has not been 20 years since it's worked. that said all the teas that have won the cup in the last 20 years have had a really good PP
@JoeStizzy ha thats funny. Always have a much harder time falling asleep after a loss.
Aso, why the hell was gaborik on the point for the 5 on 3.....PUT HIM ON THE CIRCLE LOOKING FOR ONE TIMERS AND OR IN THE SLOT TO SNIPE. joke.
I'm not going to get into last nights game too much considering that most of you guys are ready to jump off of a bridge......
I will say this, if Del Zotto isn't out there on the point to start the 5 on 3 PP, that isn't saying much about their trust and confidence in their PP quarterback, is i t?
All they did was chase the puck, very upsetting but staying positive, we will come around. PP was horrible in the closing minutes!
When will someone finally be the quarterback of the PP? We have no one capable of taking a shot from the point and actually putting it on net. Why would any team be afraid of our.point men???? They don't shoot it and when they do it never is on net..... This team needs new coaching. Top to bottom. They have so much talent but it isn't being brought out by Torts. I honestly see us.finishing last. The Isles are young and will beat us. Time to stop reading press clippings and man.
First goal was on Cally. End of his shift failed to get the puck deep trying to make a cross ice pass and got stuck out there with the Rangers on their heals. Got to do the little things right.
Richards is driving me up a f'ing wall! Ok, he had one good touch pass to nash on the gaborik goal against the bruins, but other than that his passes have been terrible (please stop passing to people you can't see), his stick handling has been terrible, his defense has been god awful (see the shorty 2 on 1 the bruins had against him where he basically just watched). Was one of our roster combo's last night Nash/Step/Gaborik? Because Torts should try that. If Kreider is in the press box for not playing D, Richards should at least see some pine for being horrendous in the face-off cirle and being a liability in his own zone.
Hank was on tonight.. Pyatt played well. as for the others?? I think they left MSG and went to sleep woke up and forgot how to play hockey.
And another thing, 5-3 powerplay is brutal. We have to find a way to score when we have more than 1:30 sec 5-3. that's just has to be a goal more often than not.
i am pissed! I watched the game on tv. Since i'm from Europe in my country was 1 AM when the game started. Terrible game last night from the Rangers. No grit, desire whatsoever, that's unacceptable! Flyers were bad and we still didn't manage to score more than 1 goal on Bryz. Playing without 4 lines is not the way. If Torts doesn't trust some of the guys, then get some new guys in! Halpern was terrible, no use of him at all. There are some solid free agents left. Sign someonewho can fill the bottom six role! We can't have d-man in forwards line, we need to get some forwards and fast. If Torts keeps this up some of our top line players will get tired and hurt. You just can't play with 2 lines.
Meanwhile ex-rangers John Mitchel and PA Parenteau both scored their 2nd goal for Colorado in 3 games last night...
Damn I miss prust. We need his spark.....and a pp and some hustle. I think I will wear my prust jersey and have a good cry.
Don't get how Torts can roll 2 lines until they are ready to fall over on day 2 of back to back games. I get that last night he shortened the bench at the end to get the win and we barley got it but you have to realize that guys would be tired.
Hank was the only positive tonight. Stayed up til 1 watching this disaster on DVr after successfully avoiding the score all night. Serenity now!!!
@Dudeinski Wouldn't mind stealing another top young defenseman from the Canadiens.
Flyers with all those injuries took it to the superstar rangers yes yes yes flyers rule.
On paper this team has the Stanley cup locked up. Unfortunately with the lack of chemistry they are going nowhere fast. Id venture a guess we may see different lines Sat night... Boyle looks lost without prust. Hopefully torts has enough sense to insert kreider back in the lineup vs tor. Crazy idea but how about we put him on the top line and move Nash to 2nd line with Cally and Stepan? Hopefully this lack of effort will all be a distant memory in a few weeks
luckily for me living in Oklahoma people mistake my NYR clothing for texas rangers clothing so when they lose nobody gives me any grief
everything u just said I noticed in the 1st 2 games......even last night against Boston they almost lost to a team that played the night before.....they look slow and out of shape...no grit, no chemistry and the list goes on and on......Halpern we got for faceoffs, where has he been.....Stal looks lost out there....Mcdonaugh get beat on what shoul've been an icing that gets negated.....Torts not doing a very good job right now....a total team non effort......very disgusted with this team right now as we all are
Zuccarello is still NYR property. Bring him back! Maybe he could infuse the team with some energy, and dare I say it, someone that may help the PP.
@JohnPiccini zuccarello is only good in a big rink. hes meant for europe not here.
@JohnPiccini I don't see it happening. Check back with me in a week though, because I might have a change of heart.
Is Tort's planning on playing Nash for half of every game? He pretty much rolled 2 lines all game long, constantly mixing them as well.
They can't clear the zone, they don't know they have to win faceoffs, the list goes on and on...really sloppy game.
@BrendyJohnson Lack of depth is killing this team. Got to assume someone gets called up soon. Maybe Miller or guy they got in Kolarik trade who has NHL experience.
@KevinDeLury @BrendyJohnson I wouldn't say lack of depth. It's more like lack of trust from the head coach.
I live in Delaware, which is Flyers country...you'd think they won the Stanley Cup. SERENITY NOW, indeed!
