Desperate Flyers Limp Into Tonight's Game

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

If you think the Rangers showed a sense of urgency last night against the Bruins, that's nothing compared to what the Blueshirts are likely to face from the Flyers tonight.

Already 0-3-0 on the season, the Flyers will be without Scott Hartnell (left foot injury) and Brayden Schenn (suspension) tonight.

The Flyers also have extra motivation after the Rangers swept the season series from them last year (Quotes vis CSNPhilly)...

Captain Claude Giroux...

“It’s a big game for us ... we've got to stay with it and show up [tonight]. “I’m just worried about [this] game.”

Head coach Peter Laviolette...

“They got the best of us for sure, last year. Certainly, we’d like to fix that. Every year, things change. We need to get back on track, whether it’s the Rangers, the Devils or Penguins or Bruins. Any time your record is not where you want it to be, there is urgency on the game. If there is wording or urgency to put on a game, he’s probably right."

Wayne Simmonds...

“We had some pretty good battles last year against the Rangers and I think it’s in the back of our minds we didn’t get a win against them. We have to go out and prove we’re a pretty good team here. We’re not panicking, but we want the win. We’re 0-3 in here. Every game is crucial. We want to get the two points any way we can.”

Tim Panaccio at CSNPhilly reports that both Jody Shelley and Tommy "Fantasy Camp" Sestito may be in the line-up tonight.

...i got to tell you, I am pumped up for tonight's game. It is going to be knock down, dragged out brawl of a contest. In my opinion, neither team can afford to lose this game. Not sure a team can be more desperate just four games into the season than the Flyers.

...if Sestito and Shelley both do end up playing expect a game reminiscent of "Slap Shot."

With Couturier out of the line up tonight the only Flyer with a goal is Giroux...he's also the only multi point player on the team! This puts the biggest smile on my face. Haha

I have a feeling Slick Rick is gonna get silly tonight against a pretty suspect defense tonight.

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG goddamn though he is slick, isn't he? Definitely living up to the hype.

Call up McIlrath...Start him at forward...Let him beat the piss out of Sestito so he has to eat with a straw...Then send him back to play actual hockey again for the Whale.

I would think that Bickel HAS TO BE in the lineup tonight. He is by far their toughest and best fighter.

@Beckfan5  -- back on defense, I suppose? Newbury on the 4th line ...

@AG_Blue Preferably. I don't care for him on the wing. And he shouldn't be there.

Pyatts probably gonna have to be mentally prepared to drop'em, hopefully Rupp has his nose out of his ear and can fight tonight and I hate to say it but Brian (NOT IN THE FACE!) Boyle's gotta be ready to throw. If Bickles not in the line up these guys have to step up.

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG  -- How did Boyler do in the fight last night? I missed it.

@AG_Blue I know normal people don't like to fight. But if someone's holding on to you and punching you, you may as well throw whatever you got at them. I think he should do like Tom Coughlin did to Tiki Barber when he was fumbling the ball all the time, but instead of making Brian carry a football everywhere he goes and swipe at it all the time. Torts should repeatedly punch Boyle in the face. Brian goes in the fridge to get a Gatorade: Tort is hiding in the empty fridge in wait and jabs him in the chops. Brian gets in his car: Torts is in the backseat and punches him in the ear. Brian makes some toast: instead of toast Torts pops out of the toaster and dots his eye. It's pretty simple. Torts just needs to watch a few Pink Panther movies...he'll get the idea.

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG  --  HAHA!!! I know! What's his problem? I gotta think his buddy Prust gave him some pointers. He just doesn't really look like he's up for it. He always just survives the fight. "If I can just hang on for a minute or two ..."

@AG_Blue he looked like he was auditioning for a role in a lifetime movie as a battered woman.

Imagine if they had traded Kreider in the Nash deal. Rangerland would have gone berserk but we'd have Arty or Dubi still. Can't imagine what Kreider's trade value is now after such poor performances in CT and now here.

@shishya100   -- if he was a part of that trade we would still be without Arti and Dubi, maybe we'd still have Erixon. They weren't going to trade Nash without getting some proven NHL-ers in return. We don't want to trade him anyway, the kid's got tremendous upside if he's handled properly, which is why Torts wants to have the conversation of possibly sending him back down to Connecticut so he can continue his development without too many expectations of him. He's taken on a lot in a short time, more than most players, plus there was no camp this year. That said, I hope Kreider finds his way a little better tonight.

@AG_Blue @shishya100 watching torts slapping Kreider on the back seemed very supportive - I bet I he realizes this kid is the future and it in everyone's best interest to bring him in correctly and allow him to grow into the stellar player he can be!!!

And the boys had better be ready, as I'm going over to my sister's house to watch the game and she's a diehard Flyers' fan. LOL.

Nothing I would like better then to beat the Flyers and then see one of our boys pummel Sestito into a bloody heap.

I expect our tough guys to be up for the challenge, but I can't help but miss Prust in a game like this. A favorite highlight from last year:

Here's hoping we build on last night's win and take advantage of the hurting fliers.
