Biron to Likely Get 12 Starts This Season

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Pat Leonard at the Daily News reports that John Tortorella will use the same philosophy as last year with his goaltending rotation. Henrik Lundqvist started 75% of the regular-season games (62), with Biron starting the other 20.

Leonard adds that in this year’s 48-game schedule, that would translate to 36 starts for Lundqvist and 12 for Biron.

...i'm sure Lundqvist would love to start every game, but I think he learned from last year that rest during the season translates into success in the post season.

...the only thing that sucks is that unless Lundqvist has a ridiculous year he will likely see an end to his record of seven straight seasons to start a career with at least 30 wins.

Starting Biron that much seems kinda risky.  Although he did start the season well last year and gave up garbage goals later on.  I say no more than 8 games should work out fine, guess we'll see what happens..

Re-posting a comment from a week ago because it relates to this post and @butyoucancallmemark 's comment below:

"Did a quick bit of crunching: If he starts the same percentage of the season that he started last year (75.6%), he will start 36 games. Though it should be noted that the compressed season will mean more back to backs and probably a lower percentage of games played.

If he wins the same percentage of games that he won last year (62.9%, his career best) he only wins 22 games in 36 starts this season.

In order to win 30 games at that win percentage, he would need to start every game of the season."

If the King gets 30 wins this year, he should get every single award out there. And I don't just mean the NHL ones. He should get batting champ, NFL MVP, cup stacking, Nobel peace prize, best cinematography, and whatever else he chooses.

Hank has to go 30-6. That's doable...for him anyway.

Prediction:  Lundqvist starts 36 games, WINS 37 games (gets the 37th win just for being the epitome of awesome), scores 8 goals and tallies 17 assists and becomes the first goalie to ever make a SAVE and score a GOAL in a single shootout (against Brodeur).

More Biron and less shot blocking. Forget 1st place, just need to slide into playoffs with a healthy team and a rested Hank. See: LA Kings.
