Bickel to Play Forward Saturday vs. Bruins

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

With only 12 forwards in camp and Arron Asham suspended for the first game this season, the question has been, who the heck will be the 12th forward when the puck drops on the Rangers 2013 season in Boston?

Well, Jim Cerny at nyrangers.com reports that Stu Bickel is currently slated to fill that position. H/T to Dave at the Blue Seat Blogs for asking.

...with Saturday expected to be a physical affair, it makes sense to replace Asham's toughness at forward with Bickel. Plus, giving Bickel just two minutes of ice time hurts a lot less at forward than on defense. Assume that means Eminger slides into the 6th spot on defense as he brings more "bite" than Gilroy.

I believe the last time Bickel started as a forward was a classic opening vs. New Jersey wherein his linemates were Rupp and Prust. Has nobody already mentioned this already? That was a classic . . .

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG , I'm a bourbon man. Jack is out. Knob Creek is nice, but I'll settle for a Corner Creek if you can find it, nicely crafted for a little less.

anyone else surprised no other forwards are getting even a peek in camp?  I know it's only a week, but you'd think Torts might want to take a look at Hrivik, Miller, Kolarik etc up close for a few skates.

Hey  @GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG ,  i'll do a 4-pack of 90 min IPA.

@cb1 I think it's really all about the short camp. I think Miller will have his chance sometimes. Also, if Bickle scores I'm gonna be pissed haha

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG  @cb1  -- agreed on the short camp. none of those guys are ready. but if they had a few weeks, they could build a case. they don't have a few weeks ...

Heather, he's carrying his suspension over from last year for the crosscheck to Brayden Schenn.

I'm surprised they even gave Gilroy a locker based on Tort's quotes in the NYT article this morning:

“I don’t think he’s great, quite honestly, and I’ve said it — no, there’s no sense in me going there,” Tortorella said, catching himself. “He wasn’t bad at times. We need depth on our blue line. Quite honestly, when he left us, I thought he was really beginning to understand what we wanted out of him, and he started to understand the coaching staff. I guess he didn’t really like it too much — he took off for a while. I’m happy he’s back.”

I hope he kept his apartment in Hartford. He's probably the only guy with more to prove to Torts than Kreider at this point.

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG the sun even shined on Hollweg's ass once or twice. Bacardi, please.

I'm fine with this. The way the Rangers "D" blocks shots, having a potential 7th defenseman in the lineup makes sense.

Wait! How the hell did Asham get suspended already? Is this a sign of what's to come in this makeshift season?
