Will Neil Catch Del Zotto With His Head Down Tonight?
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Last spring, the Rangers and Senators played a grueling seven game series that at times got pretty nasty with Carl Hagelin injuring Daniel Alfredsson with a hit from behind and Chris Neil concussing Brian Boyle with a hit to the head.
Another hit that may still have repercussions is when Michael Del Zotto caught Neil with his head down behind the net in Game 4 and dropped him like a sack of potatoes...
Here's Neil's quote after that game...
"I'm sure I'll catch him (Del Zotto) with his head down one of these times."
...Del Zotto better have his head up at all times tonight, because even with all this time in between games, I very much doubt Neil has forgotten that hit.
...man, I forgot how much I despised Neil during that series. It was almost at Brodeur levels of hatred.
...wonder if seeing the Senators again will spark the Rangers a bit tonight. That was a hard fought series and the Rangers need something, anything, to get their battle level back to where it needs to be. Either way, Mashinter and Asham better be ready to keep the peace because old wounds may reopen.

Really loved that hit. When I start to get down on Del Zotto, I try to remember this.
I blame the Sens in general and Neil in particular for costing us the Cup last year. That series was brutal. Boyle was concussed and hasn't been the same since. The whole team was beat up after that game and played the rest of the way in pain. No surprise that Nash is out tonight. Don't look for Boyle to get revenge. He's not that kind of player. But there are others . . . At least, I hope someone steps up.
@TheNYRBlog think Boyle will go after him? Or am i in fantasy land thinking He use his size. may get our first pro look at Mashty kickin ass
Bickel skating as a forward during the morning skate. Hope that means Asham is out rather than kreider being a healthy scratch
Maybe Boyle can find his offensive spark tonight like he did in round 1 last year.
@TheNYRBlog @me295 god almighty that just made my blood boil! Also postponed my disgust for delzotto for the day! Grt freaking hit!!!!!!!!!
I hope Neil hits someone that has their head down. Of course I hope they dont get hurt, but maybe seeing a vicious hit on one of their teammates will wake this team up.
Ho awesome would it be for Kreider to remember that he's huge tonight and put a hit on Neil that knocks his other teeth out. Might be a pipe dream, but one can certainly dream! Personally, I'm more worried about Anderson. He's got a .950 save percentage this year and 1.57 GAA. Crap!
I hate this team. NOT looking forward to tonight's game...we certainly don't need more injuries!
@TheNYRBlog @BMash23 #monstermash that sob, I know I'd be on http://t.co/ILKTT4cPiH doing some scouting. Get a good grip n let em rip!!!
You forgot how much you hate Neil? I didn't...I hate this whole team to the point that it was difficult for me to feel bad for them on the Karlsson injury (do feel bad for him but not the Sens). I never understood the whole "you don't hate a team till you have a playoff series against them" until this series LOL! I expect tonight to get very ugly...unless the boys sleepwalk through another game. I just hope all our boys actually walk out of the arena and to the team plane. Games like this worry me, to be honest.
Chris Neil 6'1 215 Brandon Mashinter 6'4 235 Ding ding ding Lets see what this kid can do
@UpstateAngler 1 good thing is I doubt I can make hockey tonight with my ankle. The bad is that I doubt the NYR will be on tv for me.
@ShawnParadis what the. Kids were coming tonight to watch us. They are going to be mad :)
@UpstateAngler We'll see how it is later tonight. Hate missing the game. I hope Chris Neil gets accidentally Matt Cooke'd by someone though.
How does a guy that's known for taking liberties get that mad about a hit? What a beotch. I remember when he was a free agent and the rangers were rumored to be after him. I probably would have switched my team if we got him. Hate this guy.
@TheNYRBlog Well if Mash and Ash are both in the lineup he might want to rethink the coments he made
I love how Chris Neil is the victim when he was the one who went head hunting on Brian Boyle. I hope he gets run over by a dump truck on the way to the arena tonight.
@KevinDeLury @Zubov It BETTER get ugly. Like you said, we need a good hard ugly road win. Its long overdue. I think we come out like worldbeaters tongiht, even without Nash. I'm predicting a Richards sighting in a big way.
